      Who cares… tastes great…

      • I cant eat it due to Sulfides/Suphides :( Wonder if anyone has reported this post for Spam yet

    • -5

Why has this been down voted?

      Bizarre.

      • +1

Apparently they can't stomache a joke but they can stomache this stuff

        • -1

Yep - and my comment has been down voted too!

There are some real rolled gold losers on OzB that's for sure.

          • +2

@R4: Yep, it's been a waste of time in terms of comments for a long time. There are those out there who eradicate anyone who might upset their thinking on almost any topic, including spam by the looks of it.

            • @tmcn85: The downvote button is a pathetic feature and I rarely use - I leave it to the, many, OzB losers to use.

Upvote a deal that you like and if you don't like it, leave comments reflecting this. Just downvoting a comment or remark that you don't like or agree with is just online cowardice IMO.

    • -2

It's tongue. So I guess that's meat. Personally, the thought of eating it makes me want to vomit.

Edit: Nvm. I'm thinking of "corned beef."

      • +1

        no. no your not.

        • Oh? Ah, I don't know… someone below claims it only contains ham!?

    • +1

Educate yourself, you might learn something…

Whatever you may hear, no ‘scrapings’ or ‘useless bits’ of pork or ham have ever found their way into SPAM® products. High quality pork shoulder meat and ham (actually hand cut off the bone) are ground together with water, a little sugar, salt and spice to be cooked in the can to seal in the goodness.

      • -1

        They forgot the nitrates

      • It certainly tastes awful then for something that's mostly ham!? I hadn't had it since I was a kid, then bought some when it was on sale, and it was so awful I threw it out (and I rarely throw food out… I usually suffer through until it's gone).

Edit: It wasn't just the taste… the consistency was like dog food, and I think it had some kind of jelly all over it. It reminded me of brawn. (YUCK!) Next week I noticed tinned ham was on sale cheaper than the spam had been… Still not great, but it was a couple levels up from spam.

  • +15

Or maybe get the Aldi spiced ham at around this price everyday, taste the same IMHO.

    • +8

Agree, taste is nearly exactly the same. The Korean branded spam you can find at some Asian grocers is a slightly different taste, though not in a bad way. Do recommend trying it.

      • +1

I don't read Korean, are you able to send me a link to a picture of one that you like? I will try and find it the next time I am in a Korean grocery store. Thanks.

      • MSG perhaps, MSG FTW, love it.

Agree that the Aldi Hydale Spiced ham is a great alternative, might even be a tad less fatty.

      • +8

I like the Korean more than the original spam but my wife is the opposite. 1 pro tip is that the Korean ones have a plastic reusable lid that you can use for the original spam cans as well when you're not gonna use the entire can.

        • Korean spams use better meat and less salty under licence. but pricy.

        • Is there any sensible way to get a lid of some description here? Importing a can and reusing the lid is like $25 for a half size can on eBay for some stupid reason.

    • Pity Aldi doesn’t do a lite variety.

  • saw it yesterday full-price, do coles express not do these discounts?

    • +3

      • even at half price its still higher than before

      • +2

He is saying the retail price used to be $5, not $7.50, commenting about inflation

The bacon spam has much less fat compared to the other non-lite flavours for some reason. Not sure why

  • Is this safer than luncheon meat from China you see in Asian groceries?

    • +1

I tried a Korean one in Asian groceries, it's chicken and ham. It taste almost as good as spam and less sodium too. I don't know the name tho maybe someone here knows it…

Saw the local Coles about 3 years ago put them on clearance for $1.50 each, I wanted to broden them but the missus limited me to 12 cans.

Now we've run out I remind her every time I see spam what we could have had…

    • So it took you 3 years to consume 12 cans?

  • +2

not vegan friendly so have your upvote

You had two downvotes so have an upvote.

      • +2

You had one neg so have a poz.

    • +1

Why does that fact matter to you so much to base your comment around it tho?

  • -2

If you look at nutritional information for each on the Coles site, energy, fat, carbs and sodium are all listed 0% of your daily intake. They got that right. I wouldn't taste it with somebody else's tongue!

    • -1

So… you wouldn't taste cow tongue with someone else's tongue instead of your tongue.

Edit: Nvm. I'm thinking of "corned beef."

  • What’s the turkey version like? Seems low fat.

  • AKA inflation wagyu

How long does Spam last for if one was going to stockpile it for the upcoming great reset collapse of society?
