  • Get this or wait for blackfriday?

    • The new Ipad just got released today so I'm guessing stores are now getting rid of these. Stock for this Ipad model might not be available by the time Black Friday comes.

Unlikely. The are continuing to sell the 9th gen for $549 alongside the new ipad. I grabbed one from OW for $455, unfortunately more than the $399 DJ's deal last month, but $100 off the new RRP.

  • +9

However, Apple has raised the price of this base model to $549.

Older model suppose to get cheaper when a new model is released, not more expensive (Previous RRP was $499)…

EDIT: Just looked at the prices for the new iPad 10th Gen, prices start from $749 (this is suppose to be the base model iPad)…

    • +2

I guess apple didn't get the memo.

      • +4

They did get the memo, the AUD is now a memecoin currency thanks to the RBA's weak rate hikes to protect overleveraged housing speculators.

Apple counts its profits in USD and so has hence raised the price of the new iPad by 50% AUD to preserve its USD profits.

        • Was talking about this memo.

Older model suppose to get cheaper when a new model is released,

      • Aussie $ is down the toilet at .63 that's why a lot of prices were raised

My 2018 iPad Pro was used 10-20 times for a few weeks and then one day it went into the closet for storage to never see daylight again. This post reminded me to go check on it, put it on charger and will try again to find a use case for it.

    • +2

leave it on your coffee table and have a few digital subscriptions linked to it, mine is basically a glorified magazine/newspaper.

    • +1

Sell it on Marketplace. Apple devices hold up their value really well.

      • Yea I know. I listed my wife’s 1 year used Apple Mac Mini M1 for $500 on Facebook and it was sold within 5 seconds of the ad hitting Facebook. I had to remove the ad as I was getting 200 messages a min. People are obsessed with used Apple products.

        • Holy crap I would have bought it off you for that much! You would have gotten a lot more easily :)

          • @bindok: It was used for 1-1.5 years plus it was the base model with 8gb ram and 256gb storage.

    • There’s an official dock supposedly coming soon that turns the iPad into a smart home hub/speaker

    • Or use as a digital photo frame loaded with your thousands of pics you never otherwise see. Add a smart timer so it alternates between battery/charger instead of continuously off charger

    • +1

my 2018 12.9 pro is mostly used as a sidecar display + an overpriced youtube player for my 2 yr old son.

  • It's been this price for around a week, if not more (matching Costco?).
I'd hold out for discounts as retailers look to offload gen 9 in favour of the newly released gen 10.

That said, Apple bumping up the price does make me wonder if they plan on having both as current models, with the gen 9 breaking up the pretty large gap between $0 and $749.

I suspect the same. The 10th Gen being $749 is far too high for a 'base model' iPad.

  • I wonder if the air will become more expensive as well with inflation etc.

    • +2

Apple have raised the prices of both the ipad Air which started at $929, now $999 and the ipad mini which started at $749 now $829, so yes

  • That's pretty disgusting

Leave Kim’s backside out of this

  • +1

    A pretty handy device.

It plays genshin just fine at lowest settings (med res rendering, 60fps). Biggest annoyance is iPadOS and the lack of a functional browser as all are based on Safari. It kind of sucks how this has barely come down in price. Don't get an original Apple Pencil and cheap out on one from Amazon if you need to write (I guess all accessories should be third party). If you are used to higher refresh-rate displays, get a pro.

lmk if you want to know anything else :)

    • Yes please. I'm looking for an iPad for my daughter for Christmas. Primary use case is with the Apple Pencil 2 for art. Secondary might be Genshin Impact and streaming TV. Does this scratch my bargain itch?

The other contributing factoris being as future-proof as possible. I'm Android not Apple, so I'm looking for a shortcut to help me figure this out. TIA.

      • +2

Check compatibility specs, pretty sure these only support pencil 1.

      • As @bashprompt said, it's only compatible with pencil 1 (but I recommend getting a cheaper third party stylus, especially if this is going to be a "cheap device for the kids").

It's hard to know exactly but I'd say it'll satisfy. It's definitely better than most android tablets at this price.

  • +1

I ended up grabbing a refurbished iPad Air Gen 4 from Apple for $709 ($664 with discounted gift cards) as it's cheaper than the new base iPad. Has the better screen and gen 2 pencil support too.

    The new pricing is insane.

    • Agreed. Great choice. And the refurb Pro is $779, much better than the new ipad.

    • +1

It's Apple… It'll sell no matter what it costs so every now and then they'll set a new norm for the entry level devices and that makes higher end ones look reasonable. That's why now a $2k plus ipad or iPhone isn't out of the question and to some users fine.

I see comments sighting the Aus $ but let's see if Apple corrects this entry price if the dollar goes back up…

    • How did you manage to get discounted gift cards?

  • 2021 Apple iPad Mini (Wi-Fi + Cellular, 256GB) - Starlight (6th Generation) for $1,109.00.

  • 2021 Apple iPad (10.2-inch iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular, 256GB) - Space Grey (9th Generation) Amazon

was $499 2 days ago at Apple website
been waiting to buy one for christmas for my son. so price has jumped up today!

    • +2

Amazon is still $479. I saw a Mobiciti deal pop up for $469. I too was holding out but, instead of a price reduction, we saw a price increase. Sustained weak AUD (and company greed) is to blame.

      • All well and good but I have apple gift cards to use :/

Ah well I’ll put them to something else.

  • I tried to price beat with officeworks this morning but rejected me as model number wasn’t listed so gave Amazon more money instead

    • The model number is listed though..

  • +5

tried office works this afternoon …. matched amazon and discount came to $455 …..

  • Nowhere near as good as the $399 and $379.05 price beat at OW…

    • +1

IIRC that was an error by DJs that led to Amazon matching them and then OW beating them. Prices have since gone up $50 so… This may be as good as it gets for now.

      • Yep , waiting for price error to repeat could be a while , and not sure the extra $250 for gen 10 is worth it to me ….. I also own laptop so iPad is for content consumption more than creation.

  • Year 1 BYOD sorted for 2023.

  • I bought 4 of this for my family 1 year ago. I cannot believe that my iPad has gone up in value!

    • I think it's called inflation. Your money loses value compared with assets.

  • +2

Officeworks for $455 and took 5 minutes on the phone.

Perfect for Y1 school next year.. Some parents will be surprised to see the price of the iPad 10.

Seems major retailers dropped it to $499 today. Apple Edu store $469.

    • JB were quick on the buzzer to raise the price to $549.

    • Yikes, I didn’t realise kids start on tablets so early! That’s a pretty big ask from a parent (cost wise)… and what happens if they break them?

  • Any deals on 9th gen with greater storage capacity?

    • +1

I have just got office works to price match the 256gb one for $653 over the phone and will collect from local store

      • Thanks, seems like a a good price

        • +2

Camera bump on an iPad is a deal breaker for me. it doesn’t lie flat if I put it on a table. Also 10th gen has no 3.5mm audio jack for dinosaurs like me.

  • Would it be wise to buy it now at this price or to wait for Black Friday sale?

    • I had Officeworks price beat Amazon and got it for $455. My reasoning is that the price is $550 on the Apple store so it's possible that the price only goes up from here (or the model is discontinued). OW also has 28 day change-of-mind returns so I have a grace period if the price suddenly drops

      • Makes sense. Did you price beat the Apple Pencil with OW as well?

        • I didn't get the pencil, but you can ask for a price beat on anything

  • +1

Pricematched at officeworks $455.05. I don't see the 9th gen getting any cheaper, and stock will be hard to find and run out quickly. Can't see the point in paying $749 for 10th Gen, with so few improvements….and I don't take pictures on an ipad!

    • +2

      Bought for the same reason

  • Anyome know or had success with JB Hifi price matching?

    TIA

    • Yep. They price matched without any issues. I've done it via live chat.

      • Price matched or price beat like OW?

  • +2

This just updated down to $449 for Space Grey on Amazon as I was looking at it. I called Officeworks but they wouldn't price beat as there was no model number listed on the Amazon listing.

  • Now price-dropped to the recent low from $499 to $449 similar to the Silver

Seems like the best tablet in this price category

*poked mod using the Post report/flag button

    • Says $479, guess $449 was a very brief listing error?

  • Uhh the post got expired but price was never updated for visibility?

    Should've force-posted a new deal…

  • Office Works wouldn't price match - the Amazon listing says dispatch in 1-2 months so deemed either not in stock or not AU stock.
