Why would you even think that. Do you honestly think it’s a competition with Remembrance Day?

        • +11

Not the day to be celebrating with discounts on an Australian forum.

Why are you floating around OzB today then? You should log off and stand by your morals.

@tightarse: Clearly you've missed the point. I'm not wasting time explaining it to you if you're unable to see the distasteful nature of your post content.

Disappointing to see prominent store representatives behave in this way on this forum. Pretty sure you wouldn't respond similarly on the Cash Rewards Facebook page etc.

            • +8

@Commonwealth Pig: Not sure what point it is you’re trying to make. Mobileciti”s owner is Chinese and he thought the post was appropriate. It wasn’t meant as a dig at Remembrance Day, and I’m sure you know that.

My response above was justified (rep or not) given the tone of your comment. Thanks.

              • -8

@tightarse: The code references "TA" so was obviously personalised for you.

                The point:

Did you honestly need to arrange a personalised discount percentage and coupon code referencing 11/11?

It wasn't necessary and I as well as at least one other OzBargain user found it distasteful or tacky.

                • +2

@Commonwealth Pig: Appears you would have taken offence had the code been OzB-1111 or anything else with 1s in it. Anyway, you’ve made your point and I’m off to enjoy my evening. Take care.

@Commonwealth Pig: Are you going to sook on Black Friday? An American sale that's celebrated by some in Australia like Singles Day. Shall I list some of the other events that are called Black Friday?

Black Friday (1978), a massacre of protesters in Iran
1988 Hyderabad, Sindh massacre or Black Friday, a massacre of Mohajir civilians in Hyderabad, Sindh
Black Friday (1993), a series of bomb explosions in Mumbai, India
Black Friday (2005), an event in which tribal students were killed in Meghalaya, India
Black Friday (2015), a string of terrorist attacks in France, Kuwait, Somalia, Syria and Tunisia

Looks like an Australian site will be promoting violence. You better stay off OzBargain then.

              • -5

                @Clear:

                Are you going to sook

I'm not sooking. Just engaging in some constructive criticism.

Are the Black Friday sales held on the same day as a day to remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts

You better stay off OzBargain then.

Don't need to engage if you'd rather not see my comments. There's a block function for that.

                • +3

@Commonwealth Pig: So it's purely the date and not the name. Or rather you and another were just ignorant of a major sales event around the world that's getting bigger and bigger each year. Like how Black Friday was non-existent here years ago.

                  • -3

@Clear: It's not even about the date. Of course other sales events may be on the same date.

Just not necessary to create codes and 11.11% discount percentages to "celebrate" this date on an Australian forum. Have a singles day sale by all means but I'm sure there was a more tastefull or respectful way to do it.

                    • +3

@Commonwealth Pig: Singles Day is on the 11/11th. There's nothing distasteful about having the date of the sale. You're being ridiculous.

                      • -4

                        @Clear:

There's nothing distasteful about having the date of the sale

I think there is though, different points of view.

                        You're being ridiculous.

                        In your opinion maybe.

I'll leave the discussion here now, I'm not here for arguments and I've detailed my point as much as I feel is necessary.

                        Have a great night!

@Commonwealth Pig: There are stupid comments everyday on this forum, and somewhere thousand rungs below that threshold lies Goatifi's comments.
This guy clearly wins biggest troll of the day.

                        • +3

@Commonwealth Pig: ….bruh. The diggers fought and died for your freedom. And you then chose to die on THIS hill? Really? That's the most offensive thing on this post.

                • +5

@Commonwealth Pig: I honestly can’t see any positive or constructive criticism in your comments. The fact is OzBargain has a whole category about Singles day for a week already which this deal belongs to. It should be clear to anyone just casually visit the site, and like TA I can’t see why one can genuinely bring up Rememberance Day to this.

It’s interesting you found the support in another (lone) poster, while conveniently ignored a lot of upvotes for TA and downvotes for your own comments. One can clearly who the community thinks made sense and contributed here.

            • @Commonwealth Pig: Those poor invaders of Turkey!

      • -1

Hi TA, I have always found your posts to be helpful and positive, and I certainly respect the good that you do in the OzB community. I honestly thought that using 11.11 on Remembrance Day was a bit tacky. That's my point of view, I just feel that way. I must say though, I am taken aback by the bile and vitriol in many of the subsequent comments on here. In your comment I just read genuine surprise that someone would react that way, and that you were asking a genuine question. The hate coming through on some of the other comments, however, is very disappointing. It saddens me to think that people are walking around with that much hatred and venom.

Anyhow, looking forward to your future posts. Peace brother.

It is nothing to do with remembrance day.

Chinese Singles' Day or Guanggun Jie (Chinese: 光棍节; pinyin: Guānggùn Jié; Wade–Giles: Kuang-kun chieh; literally: “bare sticks holiday”) is an entertaining festival widespread among young Chinese people, to celebrate the fact that they are proud of being single. The date, November 11th (11/11), is chosen because the number “1” resembles an individual that is alone. This festival has become the largest online shopping day in the world, with sales in Alibaba's sites Tmall and Taobao at US$5.8 billion in 2013, US$9.3 billion in 2014, US$14.3 billion in 2015 and over US$17.8 billion in 2016.
