Beamer App for MAC and Apple TV 3 - Introductory Price of $7 USD

80

If you are like me and purchased Apple TV 3 when the Dicksmith deal was on and have since only tried to setup only once because it is a good looking paperweight without the jailbreak. Then wait I have some news for you.

There is air parrot which showed some promise but the quality of HD videos was dismal and then of course there is Mountain Lion upgrade but air mirroring is only supported by newer specs of Apple products i.e. June 2011 onwards.

And so I stumbled on this little beauty and what a beauty it is.

This app is only available for Mac (sorry PC), and you can just drag and drop any video and it plays on your Apple TV 3 in glorious 1080P (it brings tears to my eyes). Try the software before you buy and you will know the difference.

This product when initially launched was $7 USD and recently a more mature version (as per the newsletter) was launched with all the bells and whistles (sans subtitle support as they are still working on it) but they also increased the price to $15 USD.

I was upset because I missed it only by days and when I was trying the software but they sent me a newsletter with some great news.

The app is now back to it's original introductory price of $7 USD for the first 100…err.99 customers.

and the good thing is that this is a personal license and you can use on all personal macs you own.

  • Thanks OP - looks good - my little people are watching something I hadn't gotten around to converting right now.

  • what does this do that any other free upnp client and codecs will give you?

    • Because as per my knowledge only itunes purchased or converted videos can work on a vanilla apple tv (ie not jailbroken yet). There are other workarounds like air flick etc but the result is not full screen and HD videos struggle.

Trust me if there was a jailbreak for apple tv in sight I would not have bothered taking this up. But in its absence this will do. Kudos to the developers.

      • interesting,i have been throwing to apple tv 2 using android no problem.

will try with new ipad tonight

        • Your Apple TV 2 jailbroken?..if not then get it done :) even better get Firecore!!!
I have tried air play using the new ipad - JAILBROKEN yet XBMC fails to mirror full screen and I have the nightly build of XBMC on my new ipad (love the retina graphics though :)). I have been following the forums @ XBMC and it seems the team is working to hard to allow the user to flick multiple displays so that the display can mirror the file on it's native resolution i.e. Ipad is retina and the second display your apple tv connected to a 1080p HDTV.

I am not sure if there is any app on the app store which allows you to play any video format and mirror it full screen on apple tv. Though there are some games but eventually they are just games.

Until then for those who don't have a new ipad, or who are against violating their IOS or other apple devices. This will do!

Of course you can always debate of having raspberry pi one day which is of course off topic ;-)

Don't forget that Mountain Lion due out this month will support Air Play.

But only from newer hardware: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).

did you even read the post?

  • What would be good is the ability to see those catch-up TV episodes that are web browser based on the big TV - even if the quality is poor.

  • Bought, thank you OP.

Unfortunately it doesn't work on my MacMini server (too old) but works on my Air. No more transcoding for my ATV3.
    yay!!

  • Hey guys! Just a heads up theres a free App called AirFlick that does the same thing!
    read about it here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2010/12/20/airflick-turns-macintosh-into…

    get it here:
    http://ericasadun.com/ftp/AirPlay/

works on most macs really, even on Leopard!

    • I have tried air flick but as I mentioned in my post 1080p lags and most importantly it's not FULLSCREEN. However, I am more than happy to take my words back if you can prove me otherwise. I wish you all the best… Seriously free is good anyday

  • I have been using Airvideo for almost 2 years now. You can browse your PC/Mac shared folders and AirPlay it directly to your Apple TV. Transcodes all my file formats so far from AVI, Mkv to Rmvb.

Works perfectly on IPhone and IPad. No issues so far. And it's cheap too.

    • Thanks xenoic - However, it seems you have to have air server running on a pc or mac which will then stream on an iphone or an ipad and then finally on apple tv.
Audio is stereo I am not sure but please advise if it plays file in Fullscreen and not with two big ugly black bars on the sides.

I can pretty much airplay anything via my jailbroken Ipad (the new IPAD via XBMC) with files being accessed from a NAS and that means one less device but still not as I said before full screen (I am tired) but the whole thing, discussion, this post and infact deal is about a video streaming solution dare I say full screen again.

      • I have used XBMC in the past on my Apple TV but it's very unstable almost unusable. In fact I've used XBMC in the past since 6 years ago on my XBox1. :)

Back to the full screen topic, yes it's Full-screen-able. :)

This app has a free trial version if it helps to give it a go.
