  • Do they issue gst invoice?

    • Why wouldn't they?

      • There are some eBay sellers (and amazon) that don't respond when you ask them

        OR

They say they can't and can only offer a order summary.

It is a common fustration that I experience.

Im sure these guys would give an invoice though

  • Is the M2 upgradable?

    • Up to 512GB for 2242 size M.2 SSD's and up to 1TB for M.2 2280 SSD's.

  • how is this for light gaming?

    • +1

      No dedicated gpu

    • +4

17 fps on Genshin on lowest settings. LOL.

I do use it for Xbox cloud gaming.

      • +2

You can use a super nintendo for cloud gaming.

      • +1

Wait really? Genshin runs on phones. Is it an optimisation issue? The iris xe graphics should be much better than adreno gpus.

    • +1

I'm interested in this too, the Iris XE isn't a NVIDIA chip but for just light gaming reviews seem to say it's pretty good.

      • Yeah, I saw some gameplay footage on YT and it honestly doesn't seem too bad considering it's an iGPU

        • +2

Seems like it really depends on the game and if they have drivers optimised for it. Im after a laptop that isn't heavy but I can play a game or 2 on when I'm bored.

    • +1

it has a TB4 port so you can hook it up to your $800 external GPU enclosure

Mil-Spec Test MIL-STD-810G military test passed

This always gives me a laugh.

*MIL-STD 810G establishes a methodology for testing products against environmental stresses under controlled laboratory conditions. Such testing is not a guarantee of future performance under these test conditions. Abuse, like that contained in MIL-STD 810G testing, is not covered under Lenovo’s standard warranty.

My $2 phone screen protector from ebay is mil-spec too!

    • +2

I've designed things to MIL-STD 810G before and the testing is no joke, but how Lenovo's marketing team have applied it here is.

  • Would this be good for a kid starting high school?

    • +2

      Too good

Wait for this to hit around $600 again - https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hp-15-6-inch-athlon-3050u-16…

    • +3

Should be perfectly fine, won't have any issues doing anything your kid needs to do

    • +2

This is more than they need immediately, but who knows where their interests will be in 2 years?

I just bought this deal, I think it's a cracker of a price, and it's going to last my little one throughout high school (assuming it doesn't get smashed).

I would avoid the 15.6" ones. They are much cheaper, but also more bulky and heavy. When they're already carrying so many things around this can actually make a big difference.

This one also has a pretty big battery, which will be good for getting through classes.

  • I think the specs on this laptop look great for the price. Was about to pull the trigger but the reviews on the screen display have canned that idea.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkBook-14-Gen-2-Tige…

Lenovo put better displays on their cheap laptops 5 years ago compared to what they're using now which is annoying

This laptop wouldn't be useable outside. Anyone got one that can comment on the display?

    • Isn't a Mircosoft Surface on sale better value?

      Too many laptops these days

    • +3

Review is testing the variant with a 250 cd/m² brightness, 45% NTSC, IPS panel

This panel is IPS 300cd/m², 100% sRGB (72%+ NTSC) and HDR (Dolby Vision)

If you believe 300nits is not usable outside, wait for deals on the 400+nits Intel NUC M15 and Gigabyte U4

    • +1

Different laptop model (14 vs 14s) and different screen.

This model is also thinner and lighter than the 14, as well as having a much better screen.

Cannot comment personally until the one I ordered arrives later this week.

      • +2

Thanks for pointing this out. Picked one up since it isn't the same screen as in that review I linked

  • An extension nvme slot is available. Good!

  • how does this one compare to this T14 deal I posted a few weeks back?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740580

$995 gets you same CPU, T-series build quality, and expandable RAM (tho only ships with 8GB).

    • Your deal has longer 3 year warranty as well
      3 major negs are

      a) need to manually RAM ($37 + time)
      b) 45% NTSC display, no issues for standard work/office but graphics editing is out
      c) price is about $100 too much relative to other models, expect an GTX 1650 or RTX 3050 when getting close to $1K. When discussing "better build quality", extra cash is only worth it for very sleek (X1 Carbon) or bulletproof (Toughbook) builds

      • Although there's added cost, You can drop a 32GB stick in to take it to 40GB if you need it, which may appeal to some.

  • this is very good deal..i had the T14 G2, it's already slim and portable… this one is even better

  • Maybe 150-200$ cheaper

      • +1

        Haha stalker. Good to know

        • +2

Love chatting to fellow OzBargainers - especially those who hit Computing deals - who have hundreds if not thousands of comments but have posted zero deals

          That's dedication

          • @[Deactivated]: Long-term lurker. I don't know how to post but I've always wanted to.

    • +1

I've been closely watching laptop prices for the last 2 months, I think the prices you're thinking of is a thing of the past.

Stock shortages + inflation + demand have caused prices to go up by about 20-30% for similarly specced laptops compared to 1-2 years ago.

The performance we're getting out of these latest generations have also allowed them to charge more. You could probably get away with a Ryzen 3/i3 where you used to need a Ryzen 5/i5.

Especially in the 14" thin metal form factor. I think this is a really good deal in this day and age.

  • +2

If you do pick one up, best to update the bios to patch the recent disclosed vulnerability: https://hothardware.com/news/lenovo-patches-bios-vulnerabili…

  • My friend is selling me this x1 carbon gen 9 laptop for 1500. He bought this during BlackFriday.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/741408

I have the budget but just wondering if its worth it to get that or this cheaper laptop instead.

I do some video editing and programming from time to time. Any advice?

    • +2

Both of them are lacking a discrete GPU, and the integrated GPU is practically identical between the two. And the i7 is surprisingly not that much faster (maybe 5-10%). So your video editing and encoding experience will likely be not very different between the two (pretty average).

The X1 has a 512GB SSD vs 256GB, if you're working with media directly on your laptop that might be important to you. But you can also install an additional SSD in the ThinkBook if you like.

The screens are the same colour accuracy, the X1 is a taller aspect ratio (16:10 vs 16:9) which is good for productivity. The X1 screen is a little brighter and has touch.

$1500 is a nice price for that laptop, but the ThinkBook is far and away better value for money if you're main concern is performance.

      • +1

awesome, thanks! whooo glad I bought before this sold out.

        • No worries, congratulations! I got one also.

  • Wish they did this price for a gen 6 ryzen chip, and not almost double the price!!

    • Yep, I'm waiting for a Ryzen 6XXX version of this. Currently use a 5XXX series version for work and am impressed, but the 6XXX series brings USB4 and better onboard graphics - perfect for a mostly business but occasional light gaming machine that spends most of its time docked.

      • Exactly my intended use too! Usb4 for docking and dual screening, ryzen 6x for light gaming afterwards!
