  • Post description

    • 400 MB/s Read = up to 300 MB/s
    • USB 3.2 Gen 1 = (3.1 Gen 1 interface)

Interpreting a quick glance at the Amazon product description as referring to the backwards compatibility speeds*?

    • +3

Beware the write speed is only stated at a slow 30MB/s, though from the reviews a few people able to obtain around 60MB/s.

      • +1

When 500GB portable SSD has been lower

harder to justify <half speed capacity for a form factor

      • This is incorrect info. I got 1 from a previous deal and tested the write speed to be around 100 MBps.

        • +2

I can confirm my info is correct because I just tested the drive on a USB-C port on my PC, the Crystal Disk Mark showing sequential read speed of 400+MB/s and sequential write speed of 60+MB/s.

    • 300 MB/s read info is for the smaller model* - Thought sellers usually upsell rather than downplay with incorrect info

Pick up cheaper at Bing Lee if that works for you:

or Bing Lee Ebay ($46.55 with OFFTOP5 + delivery or free delivery for ebayplus)
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165714675830?hash=item26955d4876

        • Awesome find, thanks. We don;t have Bing Lee in SA

        • Thanks for sharing!

Managed to get the 128 using that code, the 256 wouldn’t work.

Ordered 15 mins ago and just got the “item ready to collect” email come through.

Their 128GB is cheaper than the 256GB lol

      128GB @ $19
      256GB @ $49

      • Yeah, the 128GB is awesome value

        • +1

Maybe you should do your first post. It looks an awesome value to me.

          • @Scrooge McDeal: Thanks for the suggestion. I posted the ebay bing lee 128/256 as a separate deal.

Nice find! I paid $18.05 with the code OFFTOP5. I then I realised I had a coupon for $5 off when spending over $15. oops

I need a USBC drive because my Chromebook doesn't have an card reader (should've checked the specs before impulse buy)

Thanks OP, got me a deal

    • +8

It's good that you can fix that impulse buy, by impulse buying this one.

      • +2

It's impulse buying all the way down

  • +1

30 MB/s write speed seems to be slow comparing to T5 / T7?
But still great value as a portable flashdrive

    • It's not an SSD….

      • Agree that they wont much an SSD. I did find that the Sandisk Extreme USB-A drives were good for ~150mBps sustained write speeds a few years ago when I used them. Not up there with my T5 (and I havent used a T7), but not a bad balance for portability and convenience (I still carry multiple cables with me these days, its just that they are mostly USB-C these days rather than a mix).

        • Crystal Disk Mark tests on my two Sandisk USB flash drives:
Old Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 32GB: 263MB/s read and 92MB/s write.
Current Sandisk Extreme Pro USB 3.2 256GB: 412MB/s read and 384MB/s write.

    • Yeah write speed isn't great probably better off buying a good mirco sd and usb adapter… although this is a lot cheaper

  • +2

High performance: A 4 GB file can be copied from the USB flash drive to your PC or laptop in around 11 seconds

    4 GB = 4096 MB
    4096 MB @ 300 MB/s = 13.65s

OP also failed to mention the reverse operation

    4096 MB @ 30 MB/s = 136.5s = 2min 16.5s

Also not great when compared to some of the competition with:

    • 4 times the storage
    • 3.5 times the read speed
    • 33.3 times the write speed
    • 3 times the price
    • Available locally
    • +1

Mate relax. I just used Amazon description . I am no expert or know all these things you are talking about. I am posting a deal to help the community. People should be a bit more appreciative.

      • Fair enough. Wasn't being unappreciative, and haven't negged the deal: if you're after a physically small large capacity USB "stick" these would be a good option (and only just over $50). But if you're after USB "storage" there are "better" options.

  • Haha, up to 30 MB/s write speed
May as well buy an sd card - more versatile

  • Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
    Writing speed: 50.0 MByte/s
    Reading speed: 255 MByte/s
    H2testw v1.4

122,344 MB, just over 122GB formatted. The test took 40:48 minutes to write, 8 minutes to read. Not bad for the price. It did get rather warm when testing, but nothing too worrying.

  • Did my own speed test on this drive,

    I got 402 MB/s Read and 116 MB/s Write.
See test results - 1 GB file size, repeated 2x using CrystalDiskMark
