Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 Wi-Fi 64GB Grey - $287 + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

440

Have been looking for one of these for the kids for a while and this is by far the cheapest price for a 64GB Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 I've seen (based on other OzB posts it could be the cheapest its ever been).
For reference, JB HiFi just sent out a Back-to-school offers email with $50 off this and its still $329 on their site. I got them to price match to $287 and was able to use the $10 Perks discount to get it down to $277.

Have at it.

Cheapest ever would be the $150 deal with 12 months of 4G from Optus

    • +3

Oof, gutted I missed that one!

    • -1

I got 2 from that deal

I hadn't been an optus customer before that deal so it might cost me more in the long run.

    • Was looking at my calendar just yesterday and saw it marked for the plan cancellation end of April :)

      • Does it automatically cancel or you have to do it yourself?

        • Have to do it yourself. Make sure to set a reminder.

I noticed logging into my optus and checking plan it states when plan taken out for device and when fully paid off (12 months from when taken out)

    • Yea and it was the more expensive 4G version too. Also the Wi-Fi version has been under $200 at times, so this deal is actually far from the cheapest ever even if you exclude the Optus deal.

    • lol it was good minus detail leak

    Are you in NSW?
Does anyone know whether we can use the NSW back-to-school vouchers for this?

    • At officeworks yes not sure about JB

  • Is it still the case where if these do not explicitly specify/include S Pen support it indicates a variant that is incompatible (no S pen digitiser)

    https://news.samsung.com/ca/breaking-the-rules-with-galaxy-t…

[4] S Pen is included with Galaxy Tab S8 Series.

    Well this is confusing

Would think it would at least be advertised in product description

    — Tab A8 models A 8.0 that support S Pen do appear to exist

    • There were some great s6 lite (2022) deals that I'm hoping come back if you want s-pen and Dex

if u wanna ur kids spend less time on gaming and youtubing, u got the right tablet.

    • Mine use these for gaming and tubing every day! Do you find it too slow?

      • mine never looked back after getting her ipad. Cant say its really slow but definitely not as smooth as an ipad. I know its not fair comparing these two, one is at 1/3 cost of another.

        • Much less than a third if you got the Optus deal :)

Had this but found the screen quality sucks compared to another top range Sammy 2014 tablet from a decade ago (still working).

    • Concur

Seems like many recent lower end Samsung tablet models (even up to ~<$500) have cheap panels that have bleed or washed out effects.

Would expect improved components to be mainstream

    • That's right. Even the Galaxy Tab S1 from 2014 has SuperAmoled.

    • Agree, still using my Galaxy Note 10.1 from 2014 and it is great. Especially for my 5 y.o. to use now. It even has a real leather cover at the back… 😍

  • I wish Samsung wasn’t using a cheap Chinese chipset in these. Plenty of other options the could have chosen even if the price is marginally higher.

    • They're all Chinese chipsets

Just more superior chipsets and inferior chipsets

I had this from Amazon last month. Good tab. Install family link app and can manage kids screen time, battery, lock the tab and apps installation. Suggest to create a separate profile for kid.

  • I got this one for free when I pre-ordered the S22 (also came with free buds).

Not sure I'd pay ~$300 for it, but it works ok for the occasional youtube/netflix/browsing, etc.

Shame it doesn't support a proper pen though.

how does this compare to the Alldocube iplay 50?

    • +1

It can only play sd Netflix (like Alldocube), less ram, slightly less ppi, heavier, no 4g.
At the price point the Alldocube it’s a much better tablet. I have the 64gb/6gb and it’s a fantastic little tablet on sale at $136-140 at times.

  • I was about to buy one of these for my daughter at Costco for $270 as it was on coupon. I ended up with a Samsung Tab S6 lite second hand for $260. Definitely would suggest a used S6 lite over this if you don't need new.

But how would you know if you never bought it..?

I have another A8 in the house.

Heck even my old Samsung tab S4 runs better than the A8 under load with Multiple apps.

        S6 Lite > A8 any day.

S6 lite 64gb still $447 OW. Find a S6 lite 128gb for <$260 and you are winning imo.

        https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/samsung-ga…

Source: I have three children and many tablets 😂

The A8 struggles to render a Barbie game

        • Definitely S series > A series for both Samsung Phones and Tablets.

        • +1

Haha i haven't played a barbie game.. but im assuming it's not like Forza Horizon 5 level graphics

        • Good to know

  • +1

I got one from the Optus deal but while I have no complaints with the performance considering the low price I would recommend anyone to pay a little bit extra to buy the S6 Lite 2022 instead if you can find it under $400 for better processor.

  • Dont we all already have this???

  • I really only use mine as a data hotspot lol

  • +1

got the free one Optus was giving away

that's about as much as I would pay for it

  • I'm still annoyed by the inability to purchase the tab S7 in aus. I want a 10" amoled screen and a pen. Why is this so hard Samsung? The s7fe and s6 lite are not amoled and the s8 is still too prohibitively expensive

  • Maybe have a play with one in Officeworks before buying. Screen not much good, heavy. Bought for free with Optus $12.50 per month deal on OzBargain, and not feeling that great about it.

  • There are so many models from Samsung, which one's have OLED? I'd only change Tablets from my iPad to go to an OLED for better black levels in movies etc.

    • +2

S8 plus and s8 ultra in the current range. S7 plus in the previous generation.

      • Cheers mate!

I have this tablet. Do your self a favour and Don't buy it. The screen is absolutely terrible. Battery life is good but crap screen totally ruins the positives.

Also 10 inch screens need a 2k screen in my opinion.

  • I got one for basic tabletting needs (reading, youtube etc) and quite happy using it. Good battery life
