This is probably the best file renaming utility for the Mac, if there's a better one please let us know. On sale just for one day, today.

As noted in the comments, Automator which comes with the Mac can do renaming of files in addition to other useful tasks. A good intro video to Automator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R9tWdAlpFM

      If you ever have hundreds of generically named photos that you want to rename more logically you will understand the need for this app.

        You do know that Automator which is installed on every Mac since 10.4 has this function right?

          Yes, but automator confuses me… If there's an app that I can get that makes it nice and easy to do, I'll get that. I don't know if I'd pay for it, hence why I don't use this, but Namechanger instead.

          lol automator doesn't require you to write any code at all for generic actions so you'll forgive me if i don't see how renaming files with automator can be confusing.

          /edit: of course for the extra functionality and added GUI then by all means.

          I can see why Automator in general might be confusing. I don't see how following the clear, step-by-step instructions in the link that jared444 posted above is confusing though. It even shows you how to make an app that you can drag-and-drop files onto.

          Sorry, didn't see the link.

          I have used Automator in the past to automate rotations of photos, but I found it just as much effort to go through the steps to create the automation as downloading a dedicated program to do it if one already exists…

          Again, not sure if I'd pay for it though…

    Good deal. Great program. I had the free version (I think you could only rename 10 at a time) but then found NameChanger which is essentially the same, with slightly less customisation but free. I would say that $1.99 is probably worth it for the extra functionality, I may be upgrading…

      This is a batch rename utility, allows you to rename lots of files using pre-determined rules and regexp.

    "Easy Rename" in the MacApp store is FREE, why pay?
