Problems Buying from Shopping Express

Hi, I don't normally post but this is important to share to warn others about my experience with Shopping Express.

I ordered an RTX 4080 (worth $2000+) directly from Shopping Express on the 26/12/22 and have not received it nor have I been offered a refund or a replacement. They have an automated Covid-19 message when you dial their phone so the only communication was through emails. Shopping Express claimed to have shipped it on the 28/12 and provided tracking details. The item has yet to be processed.

I lodged a case with Shopping Express and AusPost on 6/1/23 and had to wait until the 19/1//23 to receive confirmation from AusPost that they couldn't find evidence of physical scans of the item in their systems. Once I provided this information to Shopping Express, they stopped responding to my email since.

I have now lodged a chargeback case with PayPal and NSW Fair Trading to attempt to get a refund.

I know my situation maybe a rarity but I wouldn't like anyone to go through this process. If you decide to buy from them, please go through eBay store rather than their website so at least you're covered by eBay as a third party.

To be fair, I've bought stuff a bunch of times from them without any issue - your experience does sound like a huge pain in the ass tho! Hope you get your card/refund asap

If you don't succeed with Paypal do a chargeback with your bank too (if you used CC.) Since, from what you've written, it seems SE can't actually even prove it was dispatched (creating a tracking number does not prove shipment, simply preparation for shipment) it will hopefully be an easy win for you.

The shipping date is something the lowest of the ebay scammers use to prevent you cancelling your order. They may have been waiting for stock, and didn't want you spending your money elsewhere.

Loads of retailers do this. Some will even give you a tracking number minutes after ordering and paying but they can't automate the actual picking, packing, and shipping. Well it is possible to automate much of that too, Amazon is practically there already once someone invents warehouse robots not made of meat.

  • These things happen with every computer retailer.

I would pay by CC not PayPal if you want real buyer protection.

    • Agreed. save paypal as a last resort. they tend to get pissed and close your acct if you chargeback your card without them agreeing on it. Plus paypal are an absolute garbage company.

      • +1. Had to go through 2 chargeback staff members for my cc when paypal closed a dispute where the seller admitted to having shipping issues for an undelivered product in writing. Both cc chargeback team members expressed audible disgust and confusion at paypal's decision for what should have been an open and shut case and suggested using cc directly if possible next time.

  • They mustn't have had it in stock. An automated system probably provisioned you a tracking number and they were ready to ship it, but they had nothing to ship.

  • Happened to me I ordered was then told it was 3 weeks away then a month go by and told it's still coming eventually got it but it was worth nothing compared to an over priced 4080

  • You provided evidence to Shopping Express on/after 19th of January and then they "they stopped responding to my email since".

Today it's less than 1 week since 19th of January - I think you should give them at least 1 week to respond.

But, if you have already raised chargeback / fair trading complaints, they may have limited staff who can respond to such complaints, and usually responses need to goto their bank or fair trading. Once you have done this, you need to allow 1-2 months.

In the future, I would suggest you give the merchant a letter of demand email with a 7 day deadline telling them what you want and what you plan to do after 7 days.

If you don't give them adequate time to respond to your letter of demand and goto issuing chargebacks/complaints, then you need to understand that you may need to wait 1-2 months for the more formal processes to proceed.

PS. I have never shopped at Shopping Express so I don't know if they are a good merchant or not. It just seems you were too impatient in issuing the chargeback/complaint after getting the response from Australia Post.

I think I have been very patient considering the item's estimated delivery date was between 30/12-4/1. SE have responded to my previous queries within 24 hrs from the 6th to 16th and they are well aware of the situation. It is not difficult to respond to an email with an acknowledgement. It is also not my responsibility as the customer to ensure there is communication between the seller and AusPost. I worked in selling refurbished IT Hardware before and for issues like this, we would organise a redirection of the "lost" package and send a replacement if available or a full refund to the customer.

The reason they may not have contacted you since the 19th may be because it was Chinese New Year last weekend. They may have been closed.

It's a terrible sitatution to be in. I hope it all gets sorted for you very quickly. I've heard too many stories about Shopping Express over the years so I don't think I've ever bought anything from them.

Edit: Hmm. I may have been getting them mixed up with another company, thinking they were based in China. Good luck with everything.

      • That's the problem when businesses reply to emails quickly - customers expect every time they can answer quickly. A week to reply to an email is average. Giving them a follow up after 3 days is a good idea. Once you open chargeback/fair trading etc complaints, you can't expect any further responses quickly as often these types of responses have to be dealt with by senior staff.

This sounds like a nightmare, endless loop of people juggling with your patience. I personally kind of avoided some retailers due to huge discounts during major sales events and not delivering in promised timeframe and covering their asses with covid-19 excuse. I wish all the best on your battle mate, hopefully you'll enjoy your shiny new 4080 soon.

I almost bought $300 worth of good bargain stuff from them, delivery only no store front in sydney, then I read their reviews and NOPE.

  • Ah the old label created trick, there's a meme for that

  • are there any shopping express reps on ozbargain?

  • Update: I received an email of a refund confirmation from SE on 27/1. Full refund recevied on 5/2
