How to Pay in Foreign Currency Instead of Local AUD Using PayPal

I am making a non eBay overseas purchase and would like to pay in the sellers currency (USD) using my 28 Degree Mastercard linked to PayPal to utilize the better currency conversion rates offered the 28 Degree Card.

How do I change setting or what do I need to do to make PayPal charge my Card in USD instead of PayPal converting to AUD.

Paypal is not giving me an option to Pay in USD as stated below.

I am not buying via eBay so eBay option is not useful.

You ask the merchant to charge in USD.

The paypal pop-up should be similar/same with other websites too.

After you login, you pick the card and look for the any conversion option.

Make sure you've linked the card to PayPal so it's an option to pay with. Then at the PayPal checkout, select the card, then click "See currency options" and select USD. This will then use your card's exchange rate.

My screenshot has PayPal's rate as 1.00 AUD = 0.63 USD when the actual Mastercard rate is 0.66 USD. It gives you an idea of what PayPal pockets.

Thank you all for the very detailed instructions and also for the screenshot.

I was able to successfully pay in USD using PayPal

  • I've been using my Bankwest Qantas Platinum debit card with 0 fx fees with paypal for a while, but today it no longer lists my card as a payment option and instead defaults to my bank account with paypal conversion. If I log into my paypal account the card is showing, just doesn't list it at merchant payment screen. First they removed the ability to set fx conversion to a card by default, and now this?

  • I was checking out with paypal on a US website to buy some train tickets (in USD), but I literally could not see or find the currency options button anywhere on the payment confirmation dialog when I payed and got slugged with their crappy conversion rates instead of my card rates.

Have they hidden or removed this option????
