Ferrex Airless Paint Sprayer 1010W $249 @ ALDI Special Buys

210

On sale Sat 11 Mar - DIY Paint, Kitchen Appliances and Plumbing
1.5L/min flow rate 3000psi (max.)
Comes with 10m high pressure spray hose and premium spray gun with 50cm extension lance
Ideal for a variety of home renovation projects, including interior walls, fences, sheds, lattice and much more
Much cheaper than ozito, longer pressure hose (ozito has 7.5m), higher flow (1.5L/min vs 1L/min ozito), same max psi's. Not sure what nozzle comes with.
I used ozito to do up a house and feels underpowered even for the nozzle it comes with, cannot achieve even spray pattern at max pressure. I also used 415 and 210 with it with similar outcome. I got other nozzles off ebay but they did not fit the guard, I had to buy a nozzle guard too. The thread on the oźito gun seems standard, I was able to fit other guards on it.

  • Is this better than say a roller?

    • +1

Also wondering this. Just finished painting most of the interior of my house with rollers + brushes. Took a lot of labour, was wondering if i should have just bought a paint sprayer instead.

It's much faster. Both methods require a bit of practice and technique to get good results.

    • You still need to use the roller… imho

Did my whole weatherboard house with the first iteration of this (weatherboard were brand new, unpainted), and took me 2 days in total (a coat per day, actual spraying time was only a few hours).

Obviously you need to account for time preparing and masking, but I still got my entire house done in a few days, which was much quicker than the next door neighbour who has a very similar house and took multiple weeks to roller his whole house - and you can see heaps of flaws in his work, where as my only "flaws" were the most hidden part of the house where I started/pracitced/learned the technique.

I had zero experience with anything but the most basic forms of painting, but watched a few how to videos by some famous "how to spray" guy in the US, and just had a crack.

      Highly recommend!

Edit: also was lazy and couldn't be stuffed repainting my entire picket fence, so got a giant bit of ply, put handles on it, and a mate shuffled it along on the other side for overspray.
Worked a treat again, just hit each picket at 45degrees sideways one way, then the other, and moved on.

    • i had my whole house ceiling re-painted by pros. Took them quite a bit of time prepping (puttying any cracks, taping off, masking film, etc). Next day they came and spray painted the ceiling and also used rollers (took them about a couple of hrs to finish the job). Generally the finish was good. Some parts of ceiling like walkin wardrobe was noticeably rushed (some grainy dust coated).

      • I would have used painters myself. I don't think I'd enjoy putty in my crack but to each their own. Taping off and masking film sound like they could be fun.

        • I had a deadline of 4 days till renters moved in. All i knew was painting with traditional rollers and brush, and the thought of it I knew I couldn't make the timeframe if I did it myself. My jaw dropped hearing how much painters were quoting. And in the end I caved in when a mob said they could do it in 2 days. Little did i know they were going to spray paint.

Now this spray painting has got me interested (kinda left me feeling so ripped off) with the speed it took.. and the painting method itself seemed so easy.

          • @id: So to recap you got pros in for a quick blow job and you weren't completely satisfied? So next time, you'll take matters in your own hands?

BTW, was the rental on the condition that the place be repainted?

            • @Stingo: haha!
seen them do it now. reckon I can save 80% doing myself next time with spray method.

  • 249 is a bit expensive

$0 to borrow for 60 days.

Been to bunnings to try and buy a proper full size airless sprayer? They want a lot more for the same specs (and everywhere else).
This is cheaper than hiring for a week.

  • +2

Perhaps buy a used quality airless sprayer (titan, Wagner, Atomex ) & re-sell after the project. They hold their value well & are much quicker to spray with
    Usually find them @ $300-500

  • Would a sprayer like this give a good finish for finer jobs like furniture or cabinetry?

    • Nope, you’d want a smaller cup style one for that

  • I bought a Wagner equivalent for $1100 and $150 for the 60cm extension tip 5 days ago before starting my painting project at our new place

Saw this special and returned the Wagner. Even Ozito was charging $600 for theirs at Bunnings.

This one is 1/6 of the price with an extension lance.
    An absolute bargain.

If you haven’t painted with a roller before, it’s a pain and you spend $200 just on brushes and rollers anyway.

At the very least can reuse this or re-sell it.

You will need to buy new tips and filters from my research and watch a whole bunch of videos on YouTube and you’ll likely figure it out. Just make sure to clean it straight after the spray job!

  • Anyone know the difference between the Ferrex and the Deco branded ones? The product numbers & barcodes are the same, but the build dates on the Deco are more recent, so I’m assuming possibly upgraded? Then again, it could mean made with cheaper parts too 🤷🏻‍♂️
