      lol sure kid…

  • +6

It's still always online right? I really don't like that.

Showing up as free for me via two different accounts on playstore….hopefully helps some others!!

    • +14

The initial download is free, to play the full game there's a purchase after you complete the first world.

  • +8

Install an emulator on your phone and play a real Mario game.

    • +3

So true, can run Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart Deluxe, Mario 3D World, Mario Bros at 60fps on my S23 :) has come really far now.

      • +2

What emulator do you use, and where do you get your roms? FYI. I'm not a Nintendo lawyer

        • +8

Use google, can't be getting our beloved OzBargain in trouble ;)

      • +2

Didn't realise that the emulation was running so well on devices other than PC. Just watched a few YouTube vids with games like Mario Odyssey running better than Switch on upto 80 fps on a 2 year old Snapdragon 870. I realise the switch is old hardware but absolutely blown away by this.

And just this week several YouTube people are saying a Switch successor would not have backwards compatibility because it's too hard to emulate that's certainly bs. Really the only reason that a successor platform would not have backwards compatibility is greed from Nintendo hoping for double dipping for the new improved versions.

        • You never know but I'd be surprised if that was true. Nintendo have been pretty good at supporting previous gen - GBA/NDS, NDS/3DS, NGC/Wii, Wii/WiiU, even GBA/NGC with the GBPlayer. The Switch is the first system since NGC not to support prior gen and is understandable given the twin screens of both prior systems.

You can run every system/emulator from the first 1D system Atari Pong to the last 2D system GBA through RetroArch.

        After that there's:
Sega Saturn: Yaba Sanshiro / SSF
        Sony PlayStation: DuckStation / ePSXe
        Nintendo 64: Mupen64Plus FZ / Lemuroid
        Nintendo DS: DraStic / SuperNDS
…these can be played from RetroArch as well, but if there's issues, the standalone emulator will provide more features, less bugs, and faster performance.

        Stepping up are:
        Sega Dreamcast: ReDream / ReiCast
        Sony PSP: PPSSPP / RocketPSP
        Sony PS2: AetherSX2 / Play!
        Nintendo 3DS: Citra / Mikage
        Nintendo GameCube: Dolphin / MMJR2
        Nintendo Wii: Dolphin / .
        Sony PS Vita: Vita3k / .
        Nintendo Switch: Skyline / eggNS

        Missing emulators:
        Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, WiiU

        Not coming:
        XB1, PS4, Valve SD, X1X, PS5, XSX

Incredibly useful comment, would give your comment OzB ‘gold’ (eneloops?) if I could! Thanks

Most of the negative reviews are complaining about the server connection requirement not being seamless and frequently failing.

I play a race every day to get My Nintendo coins, haven't had an issue in years.

  • +2

You can use this game with My Nintendo to get daily coins and use them for in-game items and even real Nintendo merch that Nintendo Australia send out to you (3 items max per shipment, $7.95 postage).

Check out the deets here: https://my.nintendo.com/

    • How long does it take daily and how many coins do you earn?

I use to earn them from 'Pokemon Rumble Rush' before they discontinued the game, so coin reserve running low now.

      • +1

One race a day, under a minute. There's a bunch more as below, plus a bunch more for linking accounts and that sort of thing.

Play Toad Rally (daily) - 10 Points
Win 3 times in Toad Rally (weekly) - 50 Points
Link Super Mario Run to your Nintendo Account - 100 Points
Add your first friend - 100 Points
        Add 5 friends - 100 Points
        Add 10 friends - 100 Points
        Cear World 1 - 50 Points
        Clear World 2 - 50 Points
        Clear World 3 - 50 Points
        Clear World 4 - 50 Points
        Clear World 5 - 50 Points
        Clear World 6 - 50 Points

Edit: If anyone wants to add me as a friend for 100 coins, just PM me on here.

        • Will pm later. Anyone wants one more, pm me too.

      • Assuming you win at least 3 times a week 120 per week (10 daily + 50 for 3 wins in a week), the mission to get the daily coins is a 60 second challenge but getting in/out will take a couple extra minutes

Also you can play that mode for free but with limited levels.

Always some good sales on Mar10 day. Thanks

  • When I click link it just says Install. Does that mean I own the full game?

    • +3

No only part of the game will be unlocked unless you buy it.

    • +3

Nope, I think the option to purchase full game appears after you complete the first world.

      Edit: too slow again

      • +3

The cost should be $7.99 + having to beat the first world before the sale ends

        Ozbargainers love to procrastinate

        • +3

I didn't have to beat the first world. It gave me the option to buy as soon as I loaded up the game, and then Google Play added a $3 discount for some promo.. $4.99 win

      • +4

Just tried, there is an option to immediately buy the entire game without having to complete the first world. It's a BNPL, Buy No Play Later

  • +2

so this won't be able to be shared on google family due to the in app purchase?

  • Is this all stuff you can earn for free in a reasonable time frame?

    • +1

No, Super Mario Run is more freemium than free to play, you can't play the rest of the story mode (tour) without paying, however there is currently an event allowing you to play one of the locked stages per day but still not all.

  • +2

    Thanks. got one.

  • +2

Thanks, was going to buy it for my son the other day and forgot, now bought it for both ios and Android

  • +3

Completed the game 3 years ago with all bonus coins. Just reinstalled hoping for more levels or challenges. Sadly not

  • +1

does it share login between ios and android? I.e. do we need to buy only once or it will need two different purchases?

  • Bah, imo this game is really nothing special. Nor a fraction as good as the real Mario games. Not worth the money

    • Yeah but there aren't many (legal) Mario games you can play on your phone for this price

  • Why is it stuck in portrait mode?
