    ShoppingSquare vs ShoppingExpress.. FIGHT!

    • That reminds me of the quote from a si-fi movie.

      " Whoever win's, we lose! "

      • +6

More like "Whoever loses, we win!"

      • +2

        Alien Vs Predator

      • +2

"si-fi" [sif-ee]; literally sissy fight, a film genre including turgid action flops like AVP.

      • +1

        Aliens v Predators 1 ;).. I think

    Holy SSD war!

What the, so many ssd deals today.

  • Hmmm kingston or sandisk 120gb? Anyone have experience (or read a lot of reviews)?

Will I have to reinstall windows every 3 months? :|

    • +10

      sandisk … no contest.

  • Does anyone know if something like the 60GB Kingston will fit into a 5 year old Dell Inspiron 1520?

    • I put my in my brothers, I just had to install the SSD caddy. It came with the retail box. If these are OEM, you will need to buy your own.

      • caddys are $12 off ebay. measure the height first. 10mm or 12mm

        • do these replace the CD drive? I thought you could just take out the old HD and replace it with this one.

        • +1

No it doesn't, I would suggest watching YouTube videos of how to change your HDD to SSD to understand how installation takes place. This might be a start…

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox6DHlPQI-w

        • So something like this won't work?

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeYy2k0a1Fs

        • Sry, I was thinking about an old Dell Inspiron desktop, because people replied with caddy solutions for a laptop…. LOL

I would suggest measuring your HDDs height inside, with the 9.5mm of both the Sandisk and Kingston, if a 9.5mm high SSD can sit in your HDDs place then its just a matter of taking the HDD out and placing the SDD in its place. Measure the depth of the laptop's HDD compartment.

        • Hahha okay sweet! I was a bit confused for a second! I've installed an Intel SSD in my desktop PC and I'd like to have one for my laptop also.

What other sizes do the SSD's come in? Are they all 9.5mm? And don't I need to worry about the caddy? (AFAIK that is if you want 2 drives so you raple the optical drive with it?)

        • yes you can replace your CD drive with this, to sustain both your HDD in its home location and SDD in this…

          http://compare.ebay.com.au/like/320899676142?ltyp=AllFixedPr…

        • ok cool, but if I want to keep the CD drive I can just swap out the existing HDD?

        • yes as long as you have a bit more than 9.5mm of height available where your HDDs located.

This might also help, but no dimensions mentioned…

          http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1520/en/om_…

    • or you could just be a bogan and sit it in your computer if you arent moving it around

  • oh man i paid $360 3 years ago for a 80gb Intel m-25 G2
prices have fallen 6 fold and im still hesitating

Sandisk Extreme vs Intel 330? which is better

    • Sandisk Extreme SSD is 550MB/s
      Intel 330 SSD is 330MB/s

      • +20

free shipping and you have a sale!

      • +3

The 330 is Sata 3, and does 500read/450write, very much inline with the sandisk.

        • hmm thats what I initially thought
id prefer the intel for the reliability and if it was similar price and speeds its a no brainer

        • Copie

You are right, that's my typo.

  • Ownage. I can't wait until the price war causes prices to drop even further! But it's still a great deal atm!

  • So tempted, but all I really want to do is play video games and surf the web on my PC. Waiting an extra minute for things to load isn't too bad. That, and I don't want to load Win7 for the third time this month.

    Someone talk me into it.

    • +1

Tools to port your install of windows to a new SSD are out there. One came with the SSD I bought last month. Makes the install a snap, no need to reconfigure windows.

Or, use Clonezilla, image windows and re-image to the new SSD. I'm going to grab one of those 240Gb Sandisk ones right now.

    • +1

JUST GET ONE THEY ARE AMAZING YOU NEED IT BUY IT NOW HURRY UP THEY ARE THE BEST YOU WON'T REGRET IT THEY ARE THE WAY OF THE FUTURE

        GOOD JOB

  • Hi, can you please address these concerns at the bottom of this deal
(http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/76089)in regards to possible counterfeit SD cards being supplied from Shopping Square?

    Thanks

    • +1

      Hi diamondtouch1

re: the concern about the Sandisk Extreme SD crd Serial number

All of our Sandisk products are officially offered by Sandisk. There is NO Serial number issued with Sandisk Extreme 32GB SDHC card product (but only the lot number by laser print on the back of the product ). Some Sandisk distributor may print a "after market" serial number and stick on the product to identify their own Sandisk products.

      • Thanks danilochan, I appreciate your reply.

  • Waited a long time for another Sandisk SSD sale like the last one. It didn't come and I thought it never would again, so I bought one from MSY last week. Nice timing danilo.

  • Does the Sandisk Extreme 240GB come in retail packaging? And does the deal last until sold out?

    Thanks.

    • +4

      Package Contents:

SanDisk Extreme Solid State Drive 240GB

      Does not look like it

Offer ends in 7 days… there's a countdown timer on the page.

  • Damm it, just bought the Shopping Express deal!! if only i had thought about it for about 10 minutes longer

    • +1

$10 dollars :) still a good price but $10… could of got you 6 Timtam packets from the coles deal thats still running

    • ok i bought a set of cheap finger lights to play for the cat from SQ they took 31 days to post it to me, be glad you are with SE and not SQ, I don't like their grey imports as they take forever to reach me, unless i pay more than the product itself for express postage, as for the support took a week to reply to 1 email !

Nevertheless, these SSDs look like Aus stock and should reach you in days not weeks….

  • I'm interested. I'm in Perth ordered from netplus and paid on Wednesday and they still have not shipped. Wonder if I can cancel my netplus order.

    • they're not far off in Osbourne Park, I'm sure you can come pick your online order up ;)

  • crap the kingston ssd i bought was 92 and this one 79

Free Shopping ? I'll take their entire inventory.

    • +8

Guys you are free to shop wherever you please.

  • Being OZbargained ? terribly slow checkout !

  • These guys bulk order, still waiting 8 days so far for my nexus phone to get dispatched!

    • oooh good news, it's getting shipped today or tomorrow (china time).

  • At these prices, I'm tempted to grab a few to upgrade some family members PCs.

Only question - is it worth doing on XP, or do you need Win7 to see real benefits?

    • why are you even using xp anyway

      • +2

I put an SSD in my old 486 but it still takes 5 mins to boot Win95.

Took ages to wire up the sata over to parallel port.

      • Clearly, I'm not.

But like a huge percentage of Wintel users, some of my family have older PCs, more humble computing requirements and less compulsion to spend spend money upgrading from an OS that meets their needs to one they've never used before.

Question stands; would they receive tangible benefits from an SSD upgrade or is their little point for XP users?

        • I'm not certain, but from what I've read of the Trim issue, and AHCI, it's probably better not to unless you want to go to extra trouble and research making sure you can set all that up manually with your BIOS, drive's firmware and settings.

        • Without the proper set up, you can easily lose the benefits of the SSD because Windows XP wasn't designed for SSD's (and Window's updates don't fix the issues)

XP IIRC does not align the SSD when it is first used, so you need to stick the SSD into a machine that runs Vista/ Win 7 and do the formatting from there.

After that, you can use it in an XP machine, but without proper TRIM support the drive will become very sluggish. Some manufacturers issue firmware updates and apps (like Intel Toolbox, which works only with Intel systems) which can sort of add TRIM capability to your system, but it is not a perfect solution.
To maintain top performance, you will probably want to do a backup/secure erase/restore once or twice a year.

Here's a tutorial that you can follow to install SSD properly on a XP system.

  • well, shall I get the Australian stock for $20 more but receiving next week or this overseas model but installing in September? mmm….. decisions, decisions….

  • shipping kills it :(

    • Agree. MSY $99 without waiting. Btw, I am not associated with MSY.

      • That is for the Sandisk Extreme 120GB at MSY.

  • Just grabbed the 240GB Sandisk with express shipping for $195ish total

Pretty sure I paid that for my current Corsair 120GB force 3 not that long ago.

EDIT: ok crap just noticed MSY have it for only $5 more and just around the corner from me. :(

EDIT2: ok they dont even have the 240Gb on their website to check stock..only the parts list PDF

    • Yeah, made the same mistake with my Intel 330 from shoppingexpress… just $6 more at MSY. Just less worry if there was ever a warranty issue.

  • +1

Have watched SSD prices tumbling, decided that at $79.95 + $9.99 for the Kingston 128Gb it was time to hop aboard.

Irritated that ShoppingSquare won't take a credit card directly and want to force me to have a PayPal account. Why? After jumping through various hoops, used BPAY.

Apart from that grumble, looks like a good deal.

    • +1

I found Paypal to be safer to use. If there is a problem, they can deal with the $$$ side if things quickly.

      • +1

If you're happy with PayPal and the way they do business, fine. Personally, I have a different opinion.

But … meh, whatever. When buying on, say, eBay I'm offered the option to either use (a) credit/debit card [yes, it still goes through PayPal] or (b) a PayPal account.

My point is just that ShoppingSquare doesn't let me use option (a).

It's no big deal: BPAY worked, and I'm looking forward to the SSD drive.

  • Anyone can help to see if this Sata 3 6GB/s will backward compatible with my Macbook Pro Early 2008 version ( not the unibody ) which i believe is SATA 1 1.5GB/s . I am looking upgrade my laptop to Mountain Lion and with cheap price SSD deal like this thinking about to get 120GB Kingston Drive for $79 .

    • @dansanhdieu
SATA 3 is backwards compatible with SATA 2, & SATA (or SATA 1)
Btw, it is not an easy/simple task to replace the HDD in a Macbook Pro…..

      Regards,
      Roberta
