  • Cliftons are great for long runs or slow easy runs.

    • clifton is good, but bondi is better

      • Depends on how you run.

        • +1

yeah if you like to run with platform shoes these are great

    • Clifton’s are best for slower runs under 10km. Too soft and squishy which causes rubbing and blistering on longer runs.
But great for walking and casual wear

  • Are these good for flat feet?

    • Not the Cliftons. You need a shoe with better arch support.

      • -2

you need shoes without the arch.

        • +1

He needs shoes with support, not neutral. I'm flat footed and I have support.

    • +1

better look at hoka arahi for flat feet

      • +1

Yep. That's my shoe. The robot at athletes foot confirmed it. Damn shame they're not on sale.

    • +1

Brooks beast or addiction walker works for me

    • these are great and comfortable!

  • +8

I almost fell to this possible scam via Facebook ad I think.

The amount of thinking gone in this website amazes as well as disappoints me. Posting so others become aware of the sophistication and education

Please don't buy from below as I genuinely think it's spam.

Again don't buy from below link SCAM

    • +2

If you Google Hoka even, a bunch of scam sites come up, but their official site is only hoka.com, no other domains are legit.

    • +1

Yeah got to watch for those now. Fake sites have become fairly common. I've ended up on one before and it took me a while to realise it was fake.

Worth confirning the site is legitimate by a Google search if in doubt. There are other red flags such as missing contact details, lack of Australian donation(depending on retailer), missing functionality.

    • +1

      Too many scams around.
These days, even need to check user profiles of those that comment under those type of posts

    • +1

Doesn't help that there are a lot of counterfeit Hoka's. Many who buy cheap pairs online are none the wiser as some of these fakes are very good and passable as the real thing.

Have a look at how many fakes there are on AliExpress for $70 or less.

    • most legit sites are ended with .com so .shop is most likely suspicious

  • Bargain.

  • Which model is best suited for marathon?
It will be for my first marathon at 41yo

    • +2

Neither of these. Buy the Cliftons for your daily training but get something else for race day. You'll run 500km in training by which point these things will be dead.

      • Thanks.
Was thinking to keep these for race day as I current train on Pegasus and Phantom 2
Saving grace also that black is OOS in black
        And blue is no discounted.

        • +3

New shoes to try first on a race day - don't, that's a rookie mistake

          • @user957153: Yep.
I was planning to get these if suitable and while cheap.
            Then add too training rotation.
I'm planning the Sept Sydney Marathon

At the moment…just need to budget for it

            • +3

@0806449: @0806449 multiple marathon and ultra runner here. I strongly recommend you visit a reputable running store (not Rebel et al, try a small, independent store) and ask the staff there to assess your running gait and style.

Buy the shoes they recommend, and request that if after 10-15km you don't feel they're right, and the shoes are clean, you can take them back and try something different. If you're in NSW, Pace Athletic do this.

Getting the right shoe from the moment you start training is going to prevent a lot of heartache, foot ache and a sore wallet. Personally I love Hokas, but they are not right for everyone.

Wishing you good fortune for the marathon. I'll see you on the start line.

              • +1

                @JarrodRebecchie: @JarrodRebecchie thanks.
I Do know Pace Athletic and have one nearby.
Definitely would get assessed and closer to September plan for the shoe.

                Enjoy you run in Sept

    • +4

both are good, bondi has slightly more cushioning over clifton. you will have a comfortable run and easier on your joints over race shoes.

race shoes are not as comfortable and you will get a lot of feedback, more ground feel, propels you forward, not as durable, etc…

      it depends on your goals.

if your goal is to simply finish a marathon and have a nice comfortable run, then bondi is great.

if you want to run fast as heck and try for a new PB, then carbon x is what you want.

    • +1

It depends how fast you want to go. These are OK for long distance cruising imo, but not that exciting.
Personally if you want a shoe for training and racing I wouldn't look past the saucony endorphin speed 3. More expensive but worth it imo as that shoe can do everything well. Also more durable than Clifton 8 in my experience.

    • +1

I’d recommend you look at Nike Vaporfly next%2.
Nike just released the vaporfly 3 and you can still find the vaporfly 2 for about $200

You want as good a shoe as possible for a marathon and these are as good as anything you will find.

  • +12

Don't bother if you have even slightly wide feet. The clifton 8's are very narrow in standard D size which was very uncomfortable under the arch. I have 2 other Hoka styles in D but had to size up Clifton 8 to 2E

    • Clifton 8 2E are my favourite shoe! Super light! Agree re the D being too narrow.
Bondi 7s in D are good, but i find them a bit too elevated

  • I have these. Whenever I wear them I run slow.

    • Maybe they're too comfy?

    • I see what you did there

  • how do you guys find the sizing?

  • If you want to run slow buy this.

    • What do you recommend that offers great support like these and make you run quicker? I have notched up over 500kms with these since Jan and need to replace them soon.

      • +2

        Saucony Endorphin Speed

      • +3

Beat my several PBs with Asics superblast. Really works well with my trainings.

        I have alphafly 2s, vaporfly 3.

I use this hoka for endurance run and rainy weather.

      • +1

you want to look at a carbon plated shoe, they are all fast.

      • +2

        Saucony endorphin speed 3.
Also new balance elite v3 is very good for a super shoe.. As more stable than others so you can train in it a lot as well.
But really speed 3 is best all rounder.

    • Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way

      • Also agree. Comfy, but mushy and slow.

    • well duh, this isn't a speed shoe.

this is a training and recovery shoe and not a race shoe.

if you want to run fast look for a carbon shoe.

  • +1

Thanks for the shout out @brawndo, legend

  • Nice general walking shoes nice and squishy you sink into them. Ventilated so good for warm weather.
This is my 3rd pair thanks.

  • I picked up the Hoka Clifton 8s @ $130 on sale end of last yr - very pleased with them. Great shoe for casual runs/gym cardio - find myself often reaching for them over pegasus.

    Bargain at this price imo.

Fwiw I couldn’t get them in half sizing so went half a size up and no issues at all, fit fine.

  • Love these shoes - trying to order an extra pair but my order keeps getting cancelled as order has not met our system's verification requirements. Any ideas?

  • Are either of these good for supinated feet?

    • not if you are running, you would need a stability shoe.

      • I don't believe that's correct. Stability shoes are generally engineered for support on the inside of the foot, which is exactly where supinators (who roll outwards) don't want it.

  • Which one would be more suitable for walks and gym?

    • +4

both are great, bondi has slightly more cushioning. for walking and gym just choose the style and color you like, you won't really feel the difference unless you are running a 5K or more.

      • Brilliant. Thanks!

      • Would the soles of this wear out quickly for walking? I walk about 8 km a day and takes about 3 months for the sole to wear out

        • 8km * 3 months (90 days) = 720km walked. that's a lot of km, at 500km i'm already looking for new shoes.

you should also not wear the same shoes everyday. you need time for the foam to revive and reset. you should rotate between 2-3 shoes if you are using it that much.

these are performance shoes, if you want durable shoes you need something with a huge rubber sole, but you will have to sacrifice comfort and weight.

    • I'd go Clifton if you're using them for the gym, Bondi is a "maximum cushion" type shoe meant for long runs/walk, it's plush with a huge stack height which is great for that but maybe not so much in the gym where you'd want something flatter and more stable.

      • this is true, but your talking about a 3mm difference. you make it sound like it a metre, lol.

you can choose either one, makes no difference really. pick the colour and style you like.

  • I have a Hoka shoe and it’s brilliant and comfy. But I need a probation support. I don’t think these on special are right for me. I heard Arahi or Clifton are good. Are there any pronators tried these ?

    • +1

I wouldn't use these if you have big pronation issues. They are neutral shoes.

    • I use Hoka gaviota it’s great. Bought them on sale running warehouse $150

      • I hadn't heard that one, but looks good. I ordered one from Kogan… thanks

  • Bugger, in need the 4e width.
We need a clicks to votes ratio.
Nearly 3000 clicks before 100 votes.

  • i remember importing one from the US when the Clifton first came out. No one knows about the brand back then in AUS, was getting some weird looks wearing one due to the high mid sole. One of the most comfortable running shoes i've worn but the rubber didn't last long, not sure if its fixed now.

    • Still the same on Clifton 8s - when I raised this with Hoka, they said it's normal and after the rubber has worn down, even though the sole will lose some grip, it will still last for a while - strange response, but kind of accurate - if you need the sole to last and be grippy, don't buy these… I've completely worn out the rubber on my 7s and 8s after 500-600kms - still use them, but not for marathon distance or when it's wet

  • I've been wearing Pegasus but my boss did mention to me Hoka is better. Care to explain what makes them so great?

    • Theyre not great.. endorphin 3 is a great shoe, they're super shoes!!! Even brooks gts 23 adrenalin would beat these.

      • FALSE

they are great, but it depends on application.

are you going to take a ferrari off-roading up a mountain? lmao

endorphin is a great shoe for race day and speed workouts, not an everyday shoe. excellent if you are trying to set a new PB.

hoka is great shoe for logging in miles. great cushioning. great everyday running shoe. great for recovery runs, training runs, walking, etc…

        • I just need a pair that stops my knee from degenerating

          • +1

@AlgoTrading: Hoka bondi are very plush and reduce impact a lot. But your knee pain may be due to impact or poor technique or some other reasons that isn’t impact relates

FWIW I had knee pain and switched to Bondis and the pain went away. And if it’s pain for some other reasons then the Bondis (or Cliftons) are still excellent shoes, so it’s not as if you are wasting your money

Second those above - the D size is quite narrow. Sizing is otherwise normal

  • +1

bought a pair of Bondi 7s. Seems great from the reviews I looked at. Missus didn't like the color but not going to miss out on an awesome ozb deal

  • Are these better than TN's for running?

    • they are, but not eshay approved.

  • A fair price for these sneakers, great for Sunday brunch but nothing more.

Saucony endorphin pro 3 or nothing..

    • its a great shoe, but you are comparing apples and oranges. that is like comparing a Ferrari and a Bentley. both great, but for 2 different purposes.

also factoring in the price point, you can buy several of these Hoka and have shoes in rotation vs buying 1 endorphin.

endorphin is great for speed workouts and race day trying to achieve a new PB. therefore you use these less and more for specefic purposes

logging in miles comfortable, training, recovering, etc…. Hoka is the way to go.

fyi i own a lot of running shoes including these 2 shoes.

    • Saucony endorphin pro 3 don't seem to come in wide fitting.

    • +2

Telling people to buy a carbon fibre plated super shoe for $300+ instead of a cheap daily trainer is ridiculous. Especially as there may be plenty of beginners here who only need a daily shoe and have no intention of running a marathon, who wouldn't know better.

  • Does anyone know why some sizes in certain colours are more expensive?

    • +1

Those are sold by other marketplace sellers.

  • +3

If you use wide shoes (ie. wear New Balance D fittings and above). Then the Hokka Bondi 7's will not be wide enough (even in D).

I wear New Balance D fitting shoes (I have about 12 pairs LOL) and bought Hokka Bondi 8's in D width as a trial (as they are supposed to wider than the Bondi 7's). They are not as wide as New Balance D fitting shoes.

So if you have a wide foot, just don't bother with Hoka Bondi 7's.

If you have a a regular width foot, this a bargain.

  • Thanks OP, got a pair of Bondi 7 as work shoes.

  • Would highly recommend trying these on somewhere before blindly buying these. Hoka’s are one of the only brands I find incredibly uncomfortable to wear. Something about the arch felt completely different to every other brand out there to me.

  • Was going to get Mizuno wave inspire 19 as I'm on my feet all day at work and they are very comfortable but these are half the price. Anyone have recommendations good or bad.

    • Hoka Bondis are probably the favourite shoe for nurses. That might be a recommendation

  • Hey guys,
are there free returns with Catch.com.au? I just signed up on catch and also onepass but couldn't find any info if I need to return the shoes.

    Thanks

  • I need to run Mother’s Day marathon in quick time. Need some shoes with us size 13. Currently running in Nike fly knits and they are light and comfortable but don’t seem to offer me any advantage. Recommend these Hooka shoes?

    • To run a full marathon? No. Don’t buy these.

    • +1

if you are you trying to just enjoy the marathon and finish, yes these are great shoes. nice cushioned ride that is easy on the joints.

if you are trying to run a PB, you want a carbon plated shoes, but will cost a lot more.

  • What's the size like as compared to Adidas UltraBoost? Comparable? Also, is any of these better than Saucony Guide?

    • +1

Guide is the stability version of Ride, neither Clifton or Bondi are true stability shoes - though I find Clifton leans more on the stable end for a neutral shoe, so it depends on how much you overpronate.

The Saucony equivalents would be Ride (Clifton) and Triumph (Bondi).

      • Thanks Soothsayer. Decided to give it a skip for that reason (stability).

  • Hey peeps

Anyone got recommendations of a quality walking shoe for someone with wide & flat feet? Generally urban walking, ie footpaths and parks

    • Wide (new balance, men's sizes have quite a few wdiths, up to 4e I think) and put insoles in them (ergonx $50 from Athletes foot).

  • I usually bite when I see these for about $140 - and did, about four weeks ago - so sub $90 is unbelievable. Good find OP, I've bought a pair to use in concert with others in my fleet.

  • Have Clifton's which are great for neutrals. Trying Bondi's. Thanks.

  • My choice of colour is nice!
    Bondi 7 - Wild Dove/Dark Shadow

  • Went for black and white. Less likely to be questioned by bouncers at pubs than say festival orange :)) I did like that orange though…

    • +2

Enjoyed your comment buddy, already have few black/white pair of nike & grey of these was a great change.

  • Mine finally turned up.
Came in D width instead of 2E….super annoying
