    Shift when you want to , its more of a preference thing and a lot of time semi is fine.
    Its fine to swap between just make sure you fully drain the old oil before adding the new stuff.
    Its more important to get the numbers right i.e. 10-40, 5-30 etc and to make sure it is compatible for your car, google will tell you.

    AFAIK mixing semi synth and full synth isn't a problem at all. Just means you may be wasting the full synth because it is supposed to resist degradation better but the semi-synth in the mixture will degrade sooner
