If it's like the ASUS Transformer, Android notices & offers to do the upgrade for you (free, but it insists that you plug-in the AC charger while it happens, ie. so it doesn't "brick" itself, I think).
I've never had an Acer Android device… so, get some others' opinions, too…

You need to install this first: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.FD.updater...
And then maybe restart, and then Settings > About tablet > System update. 4.0.3 should be available. But yeah, you definitely need to install that thing I've linked above.
+1 voteI love my A500. As a girl with wimpy girl wrists, I find it a bit too heavy to hold with one hand for long though. But $220 (incl. shipping) is a great price. I'm still stoked that I got mine for $250 at Officeworks last October.
Ever since the ICS update, I use it a hell of a lot more. It is smooth, and I experience less lag than I see on newer tablets in Youtube vids. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again (at that price).

I don't really care about bits and bytes in a touchpad. If I were to use this, I'd basically use it as a portable pdf annotator/sketch pad. But apparently writing on it isn't fun [1].

Looks like a good deal for those that a500 is aimed at though.
ManUtdFans on 16/08/2012 - 21:03 ¶So this price is worth to buy instead of going for Chinese brand such as Cube U30GT?

I have another RK3066 tablet (N70). The CPU/GPU is fast BUT…
- Most games won't install form Google Play (yes, I know you can hack it, otherwise download apk files….)
- Battery life is rather shocking
- The annoying 1GB internal memory + 13GB internal SD card partition for the 16GB
- Lousy IPS screen (poor quality)
- Need to use WifiFixer software to fix Wifi issueSpeed though, RK3066 is way faster. Like Scotty mentioned, Tegra2 cannot handle 1080p mkv (to be honest, it struggles with 720p mkv even). RK3066 has no such issue.
I have quite a lot of paid Android apps and it is annoying when most of the good ones cannot be installed on these cheap Chinese tablets by default. On the other hand, Tegra 2 is slow by today's standard.
-1 voteI've had a bunch of tablets, including the A500 and now the Thinkpad Tablet.
The A500 and Thinkpad Tablet are pretty similar. At the same price, I'd probably lean towards the Thinkpad as it has a full-sized SD card slot, micro USB charging (sloooow but convenient), proper stylus, and a nice keyboard folio option.

ThinkPad Tablet was meant to be more "enterprisy" and came with a stylus for note taking apps. It also has IPS display which Iconia does not have. If the same price I'll take the ThinkPad Tablet.
However Acer has actually done well in supporting this tablet — ICS for Iconia A500 came out in April whereas ICS for ThinkPad Tablet did not come until June. There's also a large community around Iconia, with CM10 becoming usable.

Acer A500 has MVA (because Acer owns a company which makes LCD panels and that company makes MVA panels). IPS is probably better though MVA has wide viewing angles too.
MVA - darker black, very good contrast ratio, but has the annoying colour shift
IPS - no colour shift issue, but black is not as black as MVA (and has contrast shift issue)

Youtube review
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewUIJfMhVeUit is heavier than the new ipad. 652 gram ipad vs 730gram a500. And I find the ipad heavy already.
Nevertheless, very good price for a branded 10.1 tab with decent specs other than the outdated CPU and the screen.

+1 voteopps i "accidentally" bought one…that's what I'm going to tell the wife if she asks anyways ;)
bought a lepan 2 from the US:
http://www.amazon.com/Le-Pan-II-available-upgrade/dp/B0067XX...
died already after 6 months only :( cant send it back for repair due to the Liion battery… so recommend anyone buying a tablet get it locally as the warranty is worth it on these suckers…shame as its a decent tablet, but feature wise this one is just as good with full size ports making it even better. wonder how it will go with a telstra dongle in it…
is pick up available- dont see any option for it… ended up paying the 20+ bux shipping ended up costing 222 for some reason. (cc fees)
wish i could have got it in store, as theirs one just down the road here (home), and another literally around the corner from work

Valid till 30th September 2012

+2 votesinfinity89 on 17/08/2012 - 00:51 ¶nope. its just an eVoucher that you can use for dymocks online books or for music

cameldownunder on 17/08/2012 - 09:13 ¶You really should. If you dont mind the weight, it's an excellent tablet. Good Built. Has been dropped a few times. No casualties. I love it, so does my Son and my wife. Or, for 69$ more you get the Google Tablet, no full USB, not SD, lower battery life.
cameldownunder on 17/08/2012 - 12:38 ¶I have both, and either I play too much on the Nexus 7, or it has a lower battery life then the Iconia.
With the Iconia i could easy make a whole day, with the Nexus 7 i have to reload it in between.

+3 votesMLN generally don't sell refurbished items. Even if they do, they would normally specify it. GoodGuys did a fire sale on these 1 year ago and at the time, it was $250 for the 16GB. 1 year later, an even better fire sale from MLN… I think $199 is a good price, but not a too good to be true (fishy) price.
My experience with MLN… certain stores are great… but 1 of them is a bit !@#!@#!@ (wouldn't even price match another MLN store price - told me to go there and get it myself).
deepinder82 on 17/08/2012 - 10:25 ¶Thanks to OZ bargain, so tempted to buy one but have no real need for it….

I do Skype video calls all the time with it. In fact that's about the only thing with Skype installed in my household, as the desktop Skype client is just getting too bloated.
The only problem is the mic (as mentioned by mashimus here), but a solvable problem.

good price.
i had one of these … solid built tablet but quite heavy and screen resolution is fairly poor. It also struggled to played HD quality videos.
ICS update made it alot smoother than honeycomb.
also has a full size usb port which i think all tablets should have lol
