Life after Succession, Downtown Abbey and Vikings

Saturday evening and trying to find something to watch but it's quite lacking.
In fact it has been like that for quite some time now.
Not sure which drama I watched last: Succession? Downtown Abbey? Vikings?
Every week we will sit in front of the TV and catch them.

It seems they dont do Dramas anymore. Heaps of Reality shows which really is not out thing.
Just watched Blue Lights from SBS on Demand, love Belfast and the Rookies, and the accent!

What is everyone watching?

The Marvellous Mrs. Mazel is pretty good. Not a lot happens until the last season though, but it's nice to see New York set in the past anyway. The last season is where things really heat up in terms of story, I guess they had to cram in a lot of plans at once.

I can't think of others at the moment, they slip out of my mind pretty soon after watching them. I hated Vikings though, felt low budget, like Suits.

    • I tried to search Mrs Mazel, thought it’s on Amazon but signed in, it’s not there….
      Where/how you watch it please?

      • Try - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Just watched the trailer, looks good

      • iirc Amazon requires you to search for things in string order. So searching for "The marv" will bring it up, but "marvellous mazel" won't.

      • It's spelled Maisel. Searching Mrs Maisel should find it.

        • phew finally got it, thanks!
That’s probably why I can’t find some shows in the past.

Haven’t watched any of those. Netballs on right now.

Watching magnet fishing videos on YouTube

Just finish Ted Lasso, worth watching.

    • Yes, surprisingly funny for a show with Hallmark vibes.

    • Someone else just told me this and sadly my Apple TV won’t work.
      Will try again tomorrow.

First 2 seasons were good but the last one is horrible. I think I got woke-scammed by Apple again after they pulled the 'ol bait'n'switch scam on me but will see out the last couple of eps just to see how it winds up.

If you liked Succession, you'll probably like Billions.

    • Haven't seen succession but can attest to Billions being a really enjoyable series and nice and chunky with around 7 seasons from memory so far.

    • I googled and found Billions on Amazon.
Logged into Amazon but can’t find it there.
      What am I doing wrong?

its on Stan australia not amazon to my knowledge. otherwise its the high seas!
which isnt hard to find given its age and popularity

have u finished all the tom clancy series on amazon. Jack Ryan, the List etc?

theres also Severence, The End game, ozark, Tokyo Vice, Foundation, The after party, Lost in Space, Barry, tulsa king, white lotus, Atlanta, handmaids tale, Mare of Easttown, DEVS, Brave new world, Knightfall, the new Watchmen short series from HBO, FOREVER, PATRIOT and bridgerton if u havent seen it already

this is just a random list of random bingeworthy shows, of no particular genre or linkage to vikings or succession

Billions would be the closest show to succession. Its first 3 seasons were really good before jumping the shark. Succession constantly felt awkward since majority of scenes were improvised and thus felt like low production writing. Billions will feel more polished in that regard. But you still have you billionaire power play shenanigans

Also DONT reccomend it, but if you enjoy relationships and similar dynamics found in your listed shows, the new Citadel series on amazon is only 6 eps and bingeable when youre bored. its basically a cgi fest try hard wannabe spy telenovella. The telenovella part is what may intrigue you

and if u like vikings, anime might not be up your alley but there are strangely quite a few viking related anime series with excellent writing if you can look past the anime part of it

        • Oh wow, what a List!
Yes, have watched Jack Ryan, lots of blood tho.
And about half of what you listed, will check the rest.

Yeah, I have a love-hate relationship with Succession. Love the cast but not sure with the plot.

Trying to be lazy not needing to google, can you please tell me which channel you see all these from? We have unsubscribed from Foxtel and Netflix. Too many streaming platforms for a small country….

          • @Pumpkin_rrr: ah its a mix of netflix amazon apple tv unfortunately
            and even hbo max/binge

agree too many streaming platforms (take advantage of the ozbargain vpn deals for $20/year)

  • The Diplomat was pretty great, last episode of the season was a bit WTF though. Apple TV+ is a good adult drama streaming service IMO, I watch more on there than Disney+.

If you're not sure where to watch things, use justwatch.com, searches for country specific info. Good for Amazon Prime which does a weird per-season thing.

Vikings. The Last Kingdom, Black Sails, Spartacus, The Tudors, Borgias

Succession. Yellowstone, The Righteous Gemstones, Veep, Barry, Severance.

Blue Lights. Happy Valley, Line of Duty, Unforgotten, This is Going to Hurt, Mare of Easttown, Broadchurch, Unbelievable, The Night of, Bodyguard

  • The Great is OK in a quirky way but is watchable with some interesting characters.
Picard season 3 (ignore seasons 1 and 2, trust me) for Trek fans.

  • Beef and dark are both superb series. I finished dark last night and am still trying to work it out. Beef is HILARIOUS

    imdb advanced search

    Severance on Apple TV+

It's highly rated however not many people are aware it exists. Unfortunately only 1 season out at the moment.

    • I agree, Severance is pretty good … but I am guessing OP is after drama that is not rooted in sci-fi. I have a friend who similarly loves drama, so long as there are no sci-fi or fantasy elements. OP, feel free to correct if this is not the case.

  • Yellowjackets is great although basically every character is off the deep end

    The Great is fun.

Bunch of scandi detective series (the Bridge is old but excellent).

I liked Slow Horses a lot. Dead Ringers. Poker Face

Lots of older shows if you haven’t seen them-Broadchurch, Bodyguard, Line of Duty. Many others. Buffy even.

  • Found this authoritative list! My next is Mad Men
