Samsung 256GB 830 Series Internal 2.5" Solid State Drive (SSD) — currently $30 off from B&H Photo Video. That's USD $179 + USD $32.26 postage to Australia = ~$211.26 AUD shipped. HOWEVER the postage is per-order and not per-item so if you buy more (or arrange a few mates to buy together) you'll be able to get more saving.

It also includes "B&H Photo $10 Gift Card" for future purchases I guess.

I received their newsletter about 8 hours ago and it says the promotion expires "Tonight" which I guess would be New York time — another 4 hours to go.

Possibly the best price for the Samsung 830 256GB yet. Very good drive for this price.

Just have to make sure the order is less than 1k (up to 5), or otherwise might need to pay GST.

      • I think it's duty, but totally agree. I once got that dreaded phonecall once at 11pm, got 3 chairs from US shipped in individual boxes, but of course they all got despatched together.

How to react when you get a call from a random Filipino guy in the middle of the night asking for your credit card details? :o/ Now using Shipito, which I also saw first on OzBargain.

  • got one thanks
edit: at last my mbp will get high speed read/write rate ssd.

  • 256gb has a higher Sequential write speed than the 128gb. why is that?

was gonna get 128gb for my notebook! now i dunno!

    • +1

Bigger usually is faster aswell with ssd's. Bigger capacity = more nand chips writing in parallel.

    • +2

Current SSD technologies are optimised for 240/256GB SSDs. 128GB drives are based on 256GB SSD drives except with either less flash ROM chips or chips with less memory capacity.

At the moment, SSDs > 256GB do not really provide performance benefit (due to latency starting to become an issue). If pure performance is what you are after, 256GB (or 240GB if you opted for a Sandforce based drive) is your best bet. You can opt for higher capacity SSDs if you really need that much space, but they won't give you any decent performance boost. The data error also becomes an issue with huge size SSDs.

      • double the storage and double the price for a bit faster hmmmmmmm
i dont think my laptop will use over 80gb since i wont be using it for gaming/video editing

        decisions decisions!!

  • each SSD postage 32.26 each … does it has insurance in it ?
Edit: i think i resist still the price drop down more.

OMG. I so want one, but I don't plan on reinstalling windows til windows 8 comes out.
Hopefully SSDs will drop considerably in local prices by then.

I just installed w7 finally after 9 odd years of joy with xp. might wait another few years for me to get w8.
Also i wouldnt hold your breath about ssd's coming down too much alike normal hdd's as they are still a bit of a luxury item rather than a necessary one, but thats slowly changing.
      good deal btw

      • Nah they will keep dropping.. good times.

And damn, late for the w7 bandwagon, love it. Used the Beta windows 8.. looks like I'll be sticking to w7 for a few more years until windows 9 haha ;)

Dude- SSD'S are rapidly coming down in price, unlike standard hard drives which have increased in price in recent times and are still not back to pre-flood prices. Standard hard drives prices have also been negatively affected for consumers due to WD and Seagate having a virtual duopoly on the market.

    • Right on. WD and Seagate just reported record profits.

  • this is so cheap its not funny! literally, i just bought one last week for $250!

  • After looking at the picture thought it looked like a laptop going for $200, untill I read the info lol.

  • Does any know if there is any Samsung local warranty for these instead of shipping back to B&H?
    Cheers!

  • Is it out of stock? I cannot seem to press any button to pay for it…

    • I am marking it as expired now as it's already 1AM New York time.

256 sux where is 1gb ssd ffs

    • Yeah, I know right! I'm holding out for the 1GB SSD's.

    • There are 1TB SSD's available. You don't wanna know the price though.

    • LOL - I'd take a 256GB SSD over a 1GB ssd anyday…

What would you do with a 1gb ssd anyways - do they even make them?

      • yeah, they are called SD cards, but not sure if even they come this small anymore.

  • Still available guys.

    Just got one.

    THANKS!

PS Damn you oz bargains for impulsive purchases.

  • Yep, keep checking guys, the price is still valid.

Great price too, especially for the Samsung drive. Worked out to be $202 dollars after conversion.

  • I seem to be missing all the good Bhphoto deals

    • Still on!
Just got on, finally caved :(

    • I've removed the OUT OF STOCK label now. It seems that the deal expires on 23 August NY time — that's 2PM tomorrow.

  • Got mine :D

  • anyone know what the go with warranty is on these drives?

  • i just bought this from MSY for $244.
    this i smuch cheaper

  • Looks like the deal is sort of "over". Price stays at $179 but without crossing out original price of $209. However there is no more $10 gift voucher.

  • just talked to their staff and my order is still pending because it's backorder. :(

  • any idea how long it'll take, mine is also backordered.

    • What's backordered?
Mine seems to have been shipped (they sent me an email) yesterday and I placed the order last Thursday. The estimated date is next Wednesday which is quite long :/
