  • How does this stuff compare to Motul 8100 Xcess?

  • Does this stack with the 20% racv discount?

  • would not recommend 5w-30 as summer is just around the corner

seems like its going to be a nice hot one too!

    • Temperature has nothing to do with this.

5W-30 which is actually 5 winter 30. At cold temperatures the oil won't thicken up more than straight-5 weight oil, and when hot, the oil won't thin out more than straight-30 weight oil. The same can be said for the other multi-viscosity oils just using the other numbers instead.

      • you should bring this up in a car forum as 99% of people will tell you that running thin oil as 5w-30 in a hot summer is not recommended unless you want oil pressure problems

5w-30 is supposed to be for cars in winter in a general point of view

        • 5w-30 is supposed to be for cars in winter in a general point of view

So you are saying your car's engine runs hotter in summer than in winter? you better get that seen to.

        • are you saying engines do not run hotter in summer?

i thought it does because the outside temperature would contribute to overall temperatures of all objects o.O

Engines are set to run at 80-90deg C, so until summer temps reach that it won't affect engine temp.

If you don't believe me, just look at your temp gauge this summer, and note how it doesn't go any higher than it does in winter.

        • my car has a needle lol but thats true, i never see it going above the middle

        • Can't agree more on this;-) The engine coolant takes care of the temperature anyway. I think 5W-30 for summer is absolutely fine.

        • @Terry, It's not "absolutely fine" if your engine isn't designed for that viscosity. Your manufacturer will specify the type required because that's what they designed it to use, normally you shouldn't ever deviate from that.

They sometimes specify a lighter weight for extreme cold sub zero climates, where the engine can struggle to reach operating temp. But the reverse is not true, so for normal or hot climates you should always stay in spec.

        • @stumo

Thanks for the input. My car is designed to drink 5W-30 anyway;-)

It depends on the car, engine and what the manufacturer specifies.

    • are we talking about high performance cars?

i need to do more research on this
