Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 256GB + Galaxy Watch5 $249 on Telstra $89/M 300GB/M 24M Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store, Port-in Customers)

1050

So the S23 Ultra 256 GB is on sale right now, $300 off for $1649. If you get this plan and get the $1400 off. you pay $249 upfront. On top of this you get a free 44mm Galaxy watch 5 LTE model. If you dont want the watch, you can sell it and easily make the $249 back. If I wasn't locked in I would've grabbed this deal

  • Any work arounds with having Boost number?

    • I had a similar problem.
I was with Telstra and wanted 1 of these Telstra deals so what I did, I got the new Telstra number from JB, then contacted Telstra and told them I wanted my old Telstra number ported onto the new plan instead of the new number JB hi Fi gave me. They changed it over pretty much instantly. As for you, you are with boost, I'd contact boost and Telstra and see if they can do the same for you

      • I think they're not supposed to do that. I tried to do something similar a few years ago and it was a huge hassle to get my old number back.

    • Maybe if that doesn't work just go to any Optus or vodaphone store, port your number over to them then go to a JB and do the deal

      • I asked jb bloke, he "thinks" you have to wait 28 days after porting. I Like how they would turn a customer away when they could be making double 🙄

        • Wierd when I went they just gave me a new Telstra number, I didnt even have to go to Optus to get an Optus number

  • -3

no working link? cant find the deal? possible in store only? why hasn't this been deleted?

    • correcto - in store only

  • Any iPhone deal?

  • With this kind of deal its best if you also need a plan with huge data.

    • +2

or if your company pay your mobile plan.

  • Is there a 1TB version?

  • Assume the discount (on $49 and $69 plan) applies to the S23+ also?

Looking at this deal for sister - she's currently with Telstra on a month to month plan. If she gets this deal with a new number, can the old one then be transferred to the new plan?

I know this was previously possible via customer care, but not sure if that's still the case?

    Cheers

  • Question: Do you still get the $100 bonus JB HI-FI gift card? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-…
It shows on the bottom that you get a bonus $100 JB HI-FI gift card with the purchase of S23 Ultra.

    • +1

not to combine with any JB mobile offer if you check the $100 gift card T&Cs.

      • Thanks for the response. Hopefully they will do a 12 month deal. 24 months it's too long for me to be locked in a contract.

        • Don't think 12 month deals will be coming back any time soon. But, I agree with you,. If they offered me an Ultra for $500-600 upfront on a $89/99 plan for 12 months I think they might have me.

          • @nitens: Black Friday sometimes they do those 12 month deal for $500 gift card. But I don't think they done it last year. I will wait, if there is no crazy good deal they won't see my money. They don't call me Scrooge for no reason 😄

    • Yeah, I think it depends on the staff that is helping you out. You can always ask nicely.

    • I got it twice, ported two plans over today

  • +4

    Save 100% by not buying : )

  • Any other 12 month plans which include discounted phone/gift cards, with any provider?

  • -1

I'm looking for a deal for the 512gb version as I want 12gb of ram. I have access to the Samsung EPP. Yesterday they were still at $1799 there. Hoping to see it go down to previous levels sometime soon.

  • Just noticed plan expenses no longer attracting Telstra reward points. I wonder since when?

    • I think because they said jb and telstra are different systems by now

  • What price of mobile do you see in the invoice? thinking to sacrifice my salary ;)

  • It's also worth noting the below in the deal after a quick call to my local JB.

    S23 128GB $0 with 250 gift card
    S23 256GB $0 with 150 gift card
    S23+ 128GB?! $0 no GC
Then you pay some for the S23 ultra as per deal.

All get the watch as it's via Samsung.
    All $89/month.

    • I was told the S23 on $89 plan will be $0 upfront plus $250 GC

      • If you get the s23 or s23+ then yes it will be $0 upfront

  • +2

    Yeah, Nah.

  • +1

This is a great deal! 300gb is pretty much enough or home internet and phone if you dont watch shit load of streaming. Could i get an additional sim and use in a compatible router as my home internet? It would probably be faster than nbn lol

  • not worth it if you already have unlimited home wifi and have a prepaid or some other low-cost per month plan. personally looking for a deal similar to $1400 without any caveats or bonuses.

  • Long time reader, first time poster here. Muzeeb jr from JB hooked me up this evening. Assisted with porting my current service over to optus from JB, signed me up for the $69 plan which with the current deal brought the S23 Ultra 256GB down to $799 outright.
Now in 30 days all I have to do is bring the number on the optus plan back over to the JB plan and it will be like nothing ever changed.
Shout out to Muzeebs long lost son!

He also mentioned the cancellation fee for the $69/month contract is $450, so in reality you could be purchasing the S23 Ultra for $1250~ if you can be bothered with all the stuffing around.

    • How do you bring number back to jb?

      • I ported the old number over to optus, after 30 days I will be able to bring it back to JB under the new $69/month contract

  • Few questions here guys:
I am already on a Telstra $69 plan from jb hifi. Would i be able to get the s23 ultra + watch via redemption if i get a new service?
Also it says the deal ends on 28th june. Is 28 june inclusive? I won’t be able to make into Jb hifi before then.
    Please share your thoughts. Thanks

  • This one is actually better deal without any 12/24m commitment and $400 can be used against any S23 phone. deal

  • Hmm. 90 dollar to Telstra every momth for 24 months. I think a z Fold 5 would be the better phone to tie myself to a LONG contract. esim Amaysim 12 month plan and 15 dollar Belong data sim is already a decent combo on S22 ultra. Best of both worlds depending on what area Im in

  • Just curious to know whether we need to use the same mobile with the plan (for $49/month plan)? Or can just keep the mobile packed in box(can use as a gift) and use the mobile plan on another phone for a month & disconnect?

Also wondering can we buy mobile separately first online and then head into store for the plan or they go hand-in-hand??

    • On your first question… You can put the sim in any phone that aill allow Telstra network access (not locked to a different carrier). Allowing you to keep the s23 boxed for a gift. Sorry, but I have no idea about the second part. Probably best to talk to JB - they should want to help you make a puchase,

  • Would be good if it was JB Hi Fi Vouchers.

  • Could you get the s23 ultra on a lower plan with this deal?

  • -3

I got good value from the $1400 off voucher today and $300 off s23u

    $89pm for 24m = $2136. Add $249 for s23u 256gb, and then subtract:

    -$1400 giftcard
-$200-400 resale value for bonus watch
-$tax claim for phone bill use
    -$tax claim for phone use
-$100 gift card for buying a phone

I think I end up with a free phone plan, and then do make some extra money back through tax refund

Or another way I see it is, after all the deductions it's around $20-30pm for a Telstra phone plan, and I get a free s23ultra.

    • +2

249 s23 ultra is already after the 1400 gift card reduction

      • -2

        Yes

    • +1

Could you elaborate how you got to $20-30pm? I understand tax deductions, but if you take that out of the equation:

      $2136 (24 month plan) + $249 (paying for S23U) - ~$300 (selling the watch - approx) - $100 (JB gift card)

$1985 out of pocket over the two years, which is about $82pm

      • -4

Sure, I still do physically pay the $89 per month. The overall cost to me is much less.

I'm not sure why you didn't deduct the gift card value out…

I've counted the value of the $1400 giftcard against the $2136.

Perhaps if you thought about it this way:
If jbhifi just gave me a $1400 cashback to use (the giftcard), the calculation would be $2136+249 -300(watch) -100(giftcard) -1400(giftcard) = about $24pm.

Depending on your tax bracket and work % claim, it could be free…
I claim 70% of the phone bill and the phone cost as a tax deduction as well.

        • +1

$1400 discount is applied to the S23U which is advertised at $1649. Meaning you pay $249 that we have in the equation.

Your equation is double dipping the $1400 discount. Make sense?

  • Bought one. I thought it supports dual physical SIMs. I did a google search before search and get answers that it can. Maybe the Australian model does not?

    • +2

      One physical and esim

      • esim is a joke. i don't want a sim tied to my phone.

  • I'm an existing Telstra mobile customer and I was thinking of picking up the s23 ultra deal at JB hi-fi today but I want to keep my current number as I use it for work.

I asked the staff at Chatswood if I sign up for a new number can I then transfer my current number over once the JB hi-fi account is created and the guy said I was trying to exploit a loophole and they won't do it for the deal as it's technically not a port in. I explained to him I'm only asking if they can transfer my number across later but they seemed like they genuinely had no idea.

Telstra gave me a run around answer and only said JB hi-fi can port my number over for me.

Anyone have any idea if this would work?

$1389 outright on Samsung store/Education Store. Free Galaxy 5 Watch. with $200 trade in, $10 S8+, $50 Subscribe and save voucher. No loyalty voucher available on S23 series according to Customer service.

if you dont care for the watch you can sell and bring total down close to $1000.

    Thinking about it,

    • Samsung 10% off loyalty codes are still a thing.. I received and successfully redeemed one just a few days ago.
If someone here is genuinely looking to buy one, dm me, I’d be happy to explain.

  • +4

Just got this one and can confirm the ETC advised is 800 if cancelled upfront, so basically you pay Listed price, less $1400, plus $800, for the phone and no more contract. Works out to be a better deal than the Samsung store deals. Also get the Bonus watch and $100 JB GC on top.

For 512gb this ends up as $549 in store, $800 to Telstra on cancellation, so $1349 all up for S23U 512, watch and $100 GC.

    • can confirm the ETC advised is 800 if cancelled upfront

What do you mean by upfront? Just cancel it on the spot after signing up?

      • +1

That's correct - you'll get a bill from Telstra for $799.xx pretty much and the plan ends. As far as I can tell no further charges.

        • no JB will send a bill for the $1400 voucher.

          • @shegeloaf: Can you confirm if this is what you received or where you're getting this info from?

            • @AAAB: I have not cancelled my plan. I read the etc and that was what i understood from the wording.

    • Then this is a better deal than the $49 plan. I had got the s23u 512 with that deal. $1549 + $49 = $1598. I failed to get the $100 voucher.

This make me seem feel bad.

    • @AAAB

      • +1

You definitely get the catalogue discount at JB given they are advertising it as such. But the T&C's on Telstra's side doesn't have it since $1400 isn't a standard JB hifi plan

        • Then how much would it cost to terminate the contract?

  • Stupidly went for s23+ with 549 upfront a couple of hours ago not realising I could have gone with $1400 gift card with no upfront, pay it over time and have the 300gb plan which would come handy for kids when we are on holidays. Can one of the experts here confirm that I can go back and change it to $1400 GC plan?

  • +1

    Can confirm.
$800 voucher is provided by telstra and the rest is covered by JBHiFi. No extra charges, just the voucher payment as ETC. Although, they do take one month upfront payment of $89.

No $100 JB gift card as staff had stuffed up the T&C, also the promo for $100 expired.

  • +5

Anyone looking to cancel should note the following:

    Your first month's charges
When you start your plan, you will be charged for the first month when you place your order.

    Can I cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 50 75 or visiting a JB Hi-Fi store. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

Essential, minimum payment for cancellation is:
    $89 + ($800*23/24) = $89 + $766.67

Best to cancel on the last day of the 1st month to maximise benefits.

    • This repayment is immediate when you cancel, or they will send an invoice later?

      • +1

It is immediate and upfront and you get instant bill. However, the payment itself will be pending until it clears which is normal.
The termination is to be paid within 10 days. They will invoice

        • Thanks, Jb Mobile Page says get $1000 JB Gift Card. Was this same before or it was $1400 here, earlier?

          • +1

@ChipsChicky: Catalogue goes by $1400. There will be promo sticker next to display phone too in regards to $1400 promo.

            • @No ONE: Couple of questions, if the normal voucher is $1000 why are they only asking for 800 back when you cancel? Also if i cancel can i still move my phone number over to somewhere else or is it better to do that first?

Edit: also do i have to call JB to cancel or Telstra.

              • @Kirbieb: $800 is given by telstra and the rest is covered by JB. You call Telstra to cancel. Telstra can only recover $800 max. Since you will pay first month upfront, there will only be left (23/24) * $800 for ETC if cancelled in the first month.

                • +1

@No ONE: I just went in store today and the lady said I’ve to repay the full voucher amount that’s given (aka $1400 pro rated)
Seems like mixed reviews on the ETC from JB

                  • +2

@BargainsGrabber: I went and pulled the trigger today, the contract i signed for telstra says $800 and the critical product information also says maximum $800 ( 766 technically)

Havent rung up to cancel yet as i figure i might as well get my months worth.

                  • +2

@BargainsGrabber: She was lying. Before you sign the contract, there is $800 max mentioned in the contract.

                  • @BargainsGrabber: I think that if Telstra stated the maximum they will charge is $766 on the critical information summary and for the very slim chance that they calculate the voucher repayment fee based on $1000 or $1400, then you have a good case to complain to the TIO and get the difference back.

                    • +1

@vchung916: Thats my plan if it comes down to it but honestly dont think it will even get that far. As far as i could see telstra doesnt even know how much i was given in giftcards.

                  • @BargainsGrabber: yes, that is what i thought. but how will JB know you?

    • plus $250 gift card. I got it. Also do you know if they give pro rata refund?

      • We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

        • +1

I got the refund as well $89 after chatting with Telstra billing..
          So I paid $89 + $766.67. Then got $89 back through redund.
Also got $250 jbhifi gift card when I bought the phone.. Also redeemed a watch.( still waiting to be delivered )

  • I am currently half way through a 12 month Boost prepaid plan and would like to keep it.Would it be possible to just leave existing plan in place.Walk in JB Hifi, sign up on the $89 deal and take the new phone number that they allocate. Insert my current Boost Sim card into the new phone, then just contact JB to cancel the new plan within the first month of ownership ? That would seem easier than porting out,in,then back out again, and I wont lose the current Boost data balance .I could put the new SIM in the old phone if it needs to be activated.

  • Hey, who's this guy? You sound overbearing, no offence.

    • +2

This is so wrong too haha

PLEASE DO NOT BID if you cannot pay as there will be NO Cancellation for whatever reasons you may have and it will incur a NON refundable 13.5% cancellation fee. That is what ebay fees will be charged to my account to relist it after any cancellation

You only get deducted $0.30 if the buyer chooses to cancel and seller relists it

  • Its surely very (deliberately) confusing.

Specifically for the S23 Ultra 256GB (which comes with a Watch5 LTE 44mm from Samsung itself) and assuming will want to port out immediately after signing up:

    @ JB Hi-Fi on the $89/pm 24mths - this would be $1,194 being:
    a) phone cost $249 ($1,649 - $1,400); add
    b) telco buyout $856 ($800*23/24 + $89); add
    c) first month fee $89

@ TGG on the $69/pm 24 mths - this would be $1,668 being:
    a) phone cost $545 ($1,545 - $1,100); add
    b) telco buyout $1,054 ($1,100*23/24); add
    c) first month fee $69

Did i interpret both vendors' respective deals (on the same phone with the same intention of porting out immediately) correctly?

    • +1

I don't think so, by my maths the TGG deal was better (only for the Ultra by $162). I think you're adding on a fee within the telco buyout that doesn't exist? It's just $431.25 as also discussed at length here
You also shouldn't need to pay the first month for any plan if you don't use it and nicely request for a refund

      • thanks champ! i am usually quite defensive :P but super liking to be told i'm wrong on this occasion! understood, so the buy-out is only $431.25 and not the $1,054 i thought it was (to somewhat hand back some portion of the $1,100).

ooo.. i didnt realise i could escape from the first month plan's fee if i terminate it immediately. cheers!

  • Quick update - signed up to the plan but Telstra is being painful in saying that I’ve to go through JB to cancel the plan, and JB handballs it back to Telstra

Gonna be a long journey to try and cancel it

    • I cancelled my $49 plan just then no troubles
