They're marketed as dog treats but could I realistically get away with putting a bowl of these out at a family lunch and passing them off as jerky?

I bought this in the last sale. For those looking to avoid imported pet treats, please note this one is a mix of Australian plus imported ingredients from Europe and South America, which would need to be irradiated.

    • What do you mean irradiated?

      • -1

The opposite of radiated, so nothing happens to them

      • +5

@DontNeedThis When irradiating food such as imported pigs ears they're exposed to ionising radiation, either from gamma rays or x-rays.
So it's just like a giant microwave oven, but it does not heat the food, it only kills bacteria or any other little life forms.
The food (pigs ears) are just as safe to eat as any product that you put in a microwave.
If you have a look at the link above howzyadog you can see the scare tactics used by some Australian made products, stating that
"THE EARLY CANCER AND OTHER TERMINAL HEALTH ISSUES THESE MAY CAUSE. (Do you know anyone whose dog lived past 12 lately?)"
This is blatant scare tactics and simply not true and of course most people know of a dog that's lived pass 12Y.O!!
You, me and everyone else has been consuming irradiated food all our lives, imported fruit and vegetables are irradiated, whether it be the fresh fruit,
veggies, herbs, spices you buy from the market, the frozen veggies in a packet or the fine dining at a restaurant.
Here is a link explaining what irradiating food is; foodstandards.gov.au

Thank you very much for explaining this in detail. I really appreciate it.

    • What?! So not australian even though it says it is?

    • Continental mix

My lab smashes one strip in under 10 seconds

    • Same with my 8 month old Kelpie. Try the cow ears, they keep my terrorist puppy occupied for 10 minutes. A whole pig ear will last him 2 minutes max

    • Kangaroo Tail Skin Twists Chews

  • Still not as cheap as making your own, but it quite a good deal.
