Any code for free shipping QQQ?
+1 votebackslashio on 28/08/2012 - 21:28 ¶They're practically the same, P7 feels more comfortable in the hand yet the T7 has better grip (since its a tactical version)

The torch itself is good, much better than my old chunky Kmart torch I bought 10 years ago. Please note it doesn't have strobe mode, so you can't use it as a bicycle light, or to distract the bad guys like the girl in Kick Ass (so sad, I couldn't add it to my crime fighting tool box. I was hoping to use the SOS mode). Not so good as the previous deal with free shipping though.
+1 voteEthereal Winter on 28/08/2012 - 21:24 ¶Not the best torch as it's not regulated (Torch gets dimmer as the batteries run run) but a pretty good torch nevertheless.

Catch of the day love to advertise great deals to lure suckers onto their site only to have about 10 units in stock. Its called bait advertising as you are really only using the prospect of getting an unbelievable deal to gain free exposure. Normally their deals are average. Fell free to message me if you still can't grasp this.
KINDEST regards,
alex
The entire point of the site is to list different deals each day that are only available in a limited quantity for a limited time. They don't claim to be operating like a normal retailer.
I don't see the advantage of "luring" you onto the site. For a retail outlet there will be alternative items to purchase, on this site if the item has sold out then almost never do they have an alternative for you to buy. Seems a rather pointless tactic if thats what they were wanting to accomplish.
+3 votesThe advantage of luring you to the site is gaining brand awareness. You may have noticed how they are working very hard at spreading awareness of their store through social media. Most people feel cheated as COTD do not reveal the fact that there is extremely limited stock until the moment the sale begins, at the expense of everybody's time. Therefore it can be rightly seen as bait and nothing more.
However they occasionally have good deals.

+1 voteI'm gonna grab a couple more.
I got one last time and decided it would be a good thing to keep in the car in case I'm ever stuck. Put it in there only to lose power an hour later while a nice storm passed over. Left me wanting for one of the torches inside the house and wishing I hadn't been so quick to glovebox it. I still have a decent lamp, but a spare would have its uses.
I also might grab one as a christmas gift to a family member. The torch was pretty darn well made and nicely packaged, I think it'd make a good gift.

+1 voteI got two last time.. Great flashlights!! gotta love the 64hrs of light! (I havent yet calculated or logged how many hours I had on my 4 AAA eneloops I have in them but I kinda trust what they say… mind you its 64hours on low setting)
Even brighter than my Ultrafire Mini Zoom CREE Q5 300 lumen flashlight! Also CoTD shipped very very fast to me last time! 4 days to melbourne :D THUMBS UP to them!

+5 votesclandestino on 28/08/2012 - 22:23 ¶what'll happen without the regulator? It sounds very dramatic, whatever it is.
+5 voteskeengeorge on 28/08/2012 - 22:25 ¶@cladestino
Without the regulator it will have issues being regular :)
+4 votesclandestino on 28/08/2012 - 22:28 ¶ok I've done 30seconds of internet research. Am I right in assuming, that without a regulator, the beam intensity will get lower as the battery runs out???

+1 voteclandestino on 28/08/2012 - 23:03 ¶Ok thanks keengeorge. Big deal! lol.
As suspected, the comment from poster Manic was your classic "storm in a teacup".
+1 voteWell I'm sure he's correct on it not being titanium. I believe the "T" is actually for "tactical". To that extent it is misleading.
It's still a great torch but (for the money at least), I got one last time. Maybe the description could use some work, but the torch itself is good. While I can't speak for everyone, it is a massive step up over the torches I've got at Coles and the like in the past and after looking at some of the other models online after getting the T7 last time, the price seems very competitive too.
+1 votethen the regulator sounds like a good thing, I like to know when my torch is going flat. (but the brightness) rather than it just cutting out on me at the most inconvenient times.
But I must mention I absolutely hate these AA or AAA torches. Much prefer the power of the 18650 torches.
Check out this comment, for some good torch choices with regulator (in the end a regulator seems to make a better torch).

So with no regulator, when the batteries are 3/4 full, you only get 3/4 of the full beam brightness.
And when the batteries are 1/4 full, you only get 1/4 of the full beam.
Is that right?Sounds pretty povo to me, but probably pretty common in cheap torches. I wouldn't pay $37 for one though.
+2 votesAgreed on the titanium colour bit. As with the light being regulated or not, it has its own pros and cons, so it's down to what your priorities are. But for average joe, i guess a unregulated light (e.g. One being sold now) is probably more suitable since they would have no idea when the battery is about to run out with a regulated light.
+2 votesclandestino on 28/08/2012 - 23:06 ¶Come on, how many people out there actually need a regulated light? I reckon the answer is going to be very close to zero. And how do you know when the battery is just about to run out on a regulated light??? Please don't tell me that you have to keep a tally of the "hours in use"??!!!
+12 voteshas no regulator.
A regulator design has advantages:
- brighter most of the time
- more efficient
- uses one or two AA instead of AAAs, so cheaper or easier to recharge / better weight : battery life.
(or better yet, use Li-Ion, regulated or not.)
- much more efficient low/medium modes (though some torches use fixed regulator + PWM)
- less waste heat, which damages the emitter over timeThe simple resistive design is OK for a $5 or $10 torch, but this is priced like a Mercedes with drum brakes.

Get a CREE Q5 LED torch for around $10 (I got mine for $6 + $4 shipping) on Ebay, it takes 1xAA battery, lasts for hours and shines incredibly. (It's also very portable.)
You can put 14500 batteries in them as a substitute for AA batteries to get 2x the brightness out of them.
+4 votesanyone who actually knows about torches knows that led lenser is nowhere even close to the best.
in the description it says 'silver titanium finish', wtf is silver titanium? it's either silver, or titanium. Either way, it's a 'finish', so it's not purely made of titanium.a REAL titanium alloy torch costs about USD150+ like this one : https://www.ledtorchshop.com.au/product/401/sunwayman-v10r-t...
this COTD post is false advertising, it's like one of those ebay shops selling 'Swarovski crystals' when it's not even genuine Swarovskis.
+1 voteI got 1 of these during the last deal.
Previously, I've only had the ebay/dealextreme "300 lumen!! Cree" type and I haven't complained…
But this Lenser is pretty good I must admit, it's build strong and clearly outshines all my other torches.
Only downfall was that the modes were a little fiddly, but for $30 I'd rather have 1 of these than 2 other ebay torches.
Totally agree. Bought couple of Ebay & DealExtreme torches in the past.
At first they looked like a good buy, but very quickly started to fall apart, switches would not work properly, etc.
Have couple of LED Lenser torches & they've been working great.
They are not as good as my Inova T4, but for the price they are well worth the money.
goodonservice on 29/08/2012 - 01:00 ¶I just use my Galaxy Note Flashlight, works fine. $119 retail? yeah right…who pays full retail price these days?

How do these compare to the CREE T6's like for example those sold at Meritline - http://www.meritline.com/cree-t6-white-led-flashlight---p-78...?
I've seen one of these in action and they are insanely bright! Only catch is you need the weird batteries and charger…

http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_...
P6 torch is up now for $49.95 + $6.95 shipping. Doesn't seem like a good buy at that price?

Titanium refers to the colour they chose. If you really think you are getting titanium for this price there is something wrong…
I got this last time, great little torch. AAA means being able to get more power at any shop which is very handy when travelling. The fancier battery versions will require a charger and maybe multiple batteries that aren't cheap. As this is OzBargain I assume people are buying a $30 torch because its cheap, not so they can buy another $60 of batteries and chargers.
My main issue is you cant turn it on to low brightness and then back off without going to max brightness. It will be an issue with any torch i imagine, but going to max brightness when you hold then button just makes it flash when you change from normal to low which in turn draws attention.
