Seems very expensive. I'd get https://www.athom.tech/blank-1/esphome-au-plug - note pricing in USD

Those won't work with homekit (natively). That may be important to some people.

Another benefit of the Eve that might be important to some, is that it uses Thread vs. WiFi (so they're more safely not on your IP network) and they're also Thread routers (thus extending your Thread mesh).

    • cheers been looking for some plugs with power-monitoring and solid homeassistant compatibility

  • I've got a couple of these and they work well in my primarily Apple devices home.
The energy data logging is good and easily exportable into CSV and XLS formats.
Works well for turning devices ON/OFF remotely as well as with automation.

One thing to note these are large and if plugging into a regular double wall socket they are just annoyingly big enough to block out the second plug from being used. A bit like those ridiculous Google round wall plugs.

  • From what I get, it has the exact same funtionalities as Meross Smart Wi-Fi Plug with Energy Monitor which are - 2 for $25.89 or 4 for $48 delivered, Homekit version a bit expensive.

So why is this one as expensive as four Meross?

Eve does HomeKit out of the box (technically that's all it can do until you update it), so it'd be better compared to the Meross HomeKit version.

You're paying more for Thread & Matter support instead of Wi-Fi / Bluetooth.

From the Meross site (on the only Matter product they sell, a US Smart Plug for $34.99 USD) - https://www.meross.com/en-gc/smart-plug/matter-smart-plug/13…

Matter is a new smart home protocol launched by Amazon, Apple, Google, and a host of manufacturers to eliminate incompatibilities between smart homes. Matter incorporates many of the benefits of HomeKit, such as a superb security protocol and a completely local architecture - no network connection is required at all. If you are an iOS user, you can use matter in almost the same way as HomeKit, simply by using the home app to do all the pairing and control. Since Matter is an open protocol, there will be a wider variety of products available on the market.

Though weirdly they're sticking with WiFi instead of Thread for some reason….

One big PITA for me with Meross is they have no ability to RESET the energy logging data.

ie: if you had it plugged into a fridge say… for a couple of months… and then wanted to measure a different thing… say your giant 80" TV… then you have to wait a full MONTH before the energy data from the device is overwritten with data from the TV only…

It has no RESET function to tell it "hey… buddy… forget the data you've been collecting… and please start again from zero".

I didn't explain very well.. but ultimately it was the reason I gave my Meross devices away.

They did however perform very well for home automation and turning things ON/OFF etc via the app.
