    Love mine.

    • You have no issues with the auto lock by any chance?

      • +1

love mine. my experience with auto lock depends on how snugly the door closes behind you.

      • Mine works perfectly

  • This is a good door lock. Love the fingerprint reader, it's a little awkwardly positioned though.

  • +4

Have one on my door, and it's trash. Never self locks. Fingerprint reader takes 5+ goes to work. Randomly needs to be reset and reprogrammed.

Even when I reset the autolock or fingerprints for users, they never work consistently. (It's not the unit, as it has already had one replacement under warranty for these issues.)

The bitting on my key is literally the same depth cuts all the way down the key, which means it would take an unskilled monkey about 1 attempt with a rake pick to open it.

I think the biggest disappointment is just how crappy the construction feels. I removed a Samsung smartlock that I had been using for 10 years and downgraded to this unit for WiFi and for the price it feels shittily built.

I can't even use AA batteries in this unit, so when the battery goes flat, the electronic part of the door lock is inactive for 6+ hours while the proprietary battery is on charge.

At half this price it would still be a rip off.

I completely agree with pegaxs , the auto lock works rarely. Finger print is hit and miss. Was going through a warranty process because auto lock doesn't work properly but thinking it won't solve the issue as it's a common problem.

    • +1

@pegaxs I too have done so many calibrations for the auto lock, only to fail again after 1 day. I have restarted, reset, checked battery level, checked latest firmware and even bought neodymium magnets from Bunnings to rub it against the strike plate. Strangely, it only goes off between certain time of the day and then start working again.

Eufy support now recommends uninstalling the app and reinstall.

I don't have the original strike plate installed, but I don't think this is the issue because it doesn't have a sensor on the strike plate. Do you have the original installed?

The smart locks with proper sensor like Samsung, Aqara, etc. must have them on the strike plate as well. This Eufy unit is only a hybrid auto lock because it only has a sensor on the deadbolt. Hence the unreliability.

      • +2

I had the original plates installed. And it still does it. I had contacted the support multiple times and they been good but unfortunately the product is not. They recommended getting the app uninstall and reinstall and it doesnt work properly..

      • Mine used to be flakey but a firmware update sometime last year has it pretty reliable for me now.

Before that, I was thinking about shoving a neodymium magnet behind the strike plate to give the geomagnetic sensor a stronger field to calibrate to. Well, that was my theory at least.

        • if you add a magnet it actually distracts the earth magnetic field that the sensor uses to detect its orientation?

          • @OzComment: I didn't end up doing it, but I was thinking that the magnet would completely overwhelm the earth's magnetic field from the sensors point of view.

I was working off the assumption that it was already possibly using the strike plate as some sort of datum, so the sensor would be within range of the magnet.

No idea if it could work, but I had a magnet lying around and the lock kept going out of calibration.

            • +1

@TheContact: it’s not using the strike plate at all, open your door halfway so there is nothing around it, remember this position, do a calibration, move the door around and when you position it where you did the calibration, the door will still close, so it doesn’t matter what strike plate you are using or what it is made up of.
it’s purely by the geomagnetic sensor to determine it’s orientation for the auto close / lock.

The thing that I still don’t understand, and has been commented by a lot of people, the first day you do the calibration it works pretty well. Only until the next day you wake up and then it stops functioning, this is something I can’t really explain. it’s so random yet so predictable

              • @OzComment: I mean that I thought it was using the strike plate to possibly "strengthen" the calibration.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the sensor is probably in the the middle of the lock so it likely won't be affected by interference like a magnet or whatever, even if my hypothesis about spoofing the geomagnetic sensor was actually possible.

              • @OzComment: That's interesting. So the original strike plate has nothing to do with it.

To make it more confusing, my autolock only stops working roughly between 11AM to 6PM, everyday. It seems like the geomagnetic sensor only has a limited number of locking before it loses "charges" and then has to rest and "recharge". People who has no problems with the autolock may only open/close their doors once or twice a day. I open/close mine at least 10 times a day.

Also, my whole door jamb is steel and magnetic. Could it somehow confuse the geomagnetic sensor since it's surrounded by it?

                • @tjioer: the magnetic field around the door jamb will definitely affect the geomagnetic sensor’s ability to detect the earth’s magnetic field.

Is there any activity between 11am to 6pm which will increase those magnetic energy? Are you enabling some home automation around that area during that time ?

In theory it should be the best to minimise the anything that will affect the magnetic field around the sensor / door to make it work consistently. But in practice it maybe very difficult to achieve, and I don’t know why the detection will degrade over time.

                  • @OzComment: I really can't think of anything taking place between 11am to 6pm which may affect the magnetism. I have no home automation. I do have Eufy doorbell and cameras, but they shouldn't have anything to do with it.

The only thing different is sunlight coming on top of the door during that time. But really, it shouldn't affect it.

The metal door jamb, yes, it may affect it. But it still doesn't explain why the sensor works outside of that period. Otherwise it should stop working 24/7.

    • Why did you replace the Samsung unit for this one? Samsung units like 708 and I believe 609 had WiFi on it.

      • +1

Because the Samsung one I had did not support fingerprints and did not have WiFi or key override.

The other reason was after a few failed lock attempts and leaving the house unlocked, it was time for a change… worst move I ever made.

        • Fair enough. I have the 708 and so far its been good. It has WiFi and does the auto-locking so no complaints.

          • +1

@johnnybravo: Samsung handle locks like DR708, DP609, P717, P718, DH538, DH537 use mortise which has mechanical built-in door sensor then work more precisely

  • Has anyone gone down the process of replacing a Gainsborough lock with a digital lock?

    (Something like this https://www.ozwidebuildingsupplies.com.au/gainsborough-trilo…)

I can't seem to find anything conclusive online about how you go about it

    • Easy. Many locks can replace that Gainsborough neatly without leaving any hole

  • +2

Just thought I would chime in considering all the neg reviews for this lock.

I have been using mine for around 2 years, fingerprint access works 95% of the time, and auto lock works around 85% (usually find it gets confused if door left open for extended periods).

For me the battery lasts for many months (maybe 4-6) so the few hour charge has never been a concern.

Overall, for the less than $300 I paid for it I am happy with it.

    • Once you close the door after extended periods, does the auto lock resolve itself or is there a period where it just stops working?

      • +2

For me, yes after a manual lock the next cycle is back to normal.

If I'm on the inside of door, manual lock is as easy as flicking the latch lever closed. If I'm outside I usually just press the fingerprint scanner and it will then lock.

  • +1

I've had this for a year and find it very convenient. I've had zero issues and fingerprint access and autolock works 100% of the time

  • Can I replace my Lockwood deadbolt with this? Thanks

    • for insurance purposes i wouldn't. it's not a true deadlock for the purposes of your insurance policy. but yes you can replace it.

      • thanks. i have a deadlock that is not even locking… :D

  • This or the Lockly Secure Plus deadbolt lock which is for $280ish on sale currently. I think the Lockly one doesn’t have Wifi but looks like a solid built. Help me choose!!!

    • +1

Eufy built is good too, all metal and very heavy.
Fingerprint reader of Lockly is on the side (mainly right side) so if you have left hand door, very difficult to place your finger between lock and jamb. If we install it at 70mm backset, it is not aligned with the handle.
So I still prefer Eufy with rechargeable battery
