        • I haven't been to a Mt Waverley store yet. I'll try my luck tonight.

Don't go to the Subway opposite Knox Shopping centre, BIG TA - won't accept these vouchers

      • +1

I was asked for id today for the first time. Wanted full id with photo etc… i showed my debit card.

    • Not the ones I have visited.

  • yoohoo just signed up and activated the offer 15min ago and enjoying my free meal now!

  • Fun is over i couldn't redeem offer today :This offer cannot be activated because it has already been activated by another account with similar information. If you feel this is incorrect please contact us via email at [email protected] with your account details.

    • yeah, so they are tracking using our NAME?
Anyone re-used with same name today?

      • Yep they are onto you guys! IP matching!

        • really IP matching ?? will give a try with other machine @ home :D

      • I'm not sure if it is IP matching or not but they are definitely onto gmail dot-addressing.

        • Damn I tried the dot addressing today and yeah it failed.

        • it's strange that it still works for me. maybe it might have something to do with the fact that when i signed up for that gmail account, i put a dot in my username to begin with..?

        • yep, did some more test and found gmail DOT thing no longer activates this offer.
          Better use diff account :)
Last time I used Temporary disposable e-mail but failed….not sure if its again working….

  • +2

had same problem as above today. Signed up with my phone number and then able to redeem offer. damn, was avoiding giving them my phone number for as long as possible. Also was asked to present ID today for the first time.

    • awesome, just entered mobile num and was able to activate voucher which failed earlier.
Did they ask you and verify your mobile number?

      • they send a verification txt to your phone that is all

  • I think they're matching names (perhaps in addition to IP addresses).

Registered a new account via my phone's 3G connection which I hadn't used before. Got refused based on similar account details.

  • Doesnt seem to want to work?

It keeps saying "The Offer must start after the current time."

    • ok working again . weird

      got my 2nd free subway :) :D

  • for Carillon City Foodcourt WA, debit card wasn't enough, photo id wasn't enough….had to put my name and signature on the receipt lol.

    • lol what

      • i'm thinking if that woman was in a really bad mood, she'd likely hang a sign with my name around my neck and take a photo xD

  • Saw one of these vouchers stuck near the register at The Glen subway. There was a note on it saying to call the police if that person came into the store. I wonder what that is all about.

    • really? pics or it didnt happen. i wonder what the cop will do. enforce the limit for subway?

      • +2

a true ozbargainer cop would then attend the scene with his/her own voucher for a free sub+drink.

but i reckon that person it was must have said/done something serious while claiming the voucher to warrant that level of concern o_O

        • True because those that have been recognized as having attended a store multiple times have only been refused their sub, there has never been a threat to call the police. So this guy must be wanted for something serious I would imagine.

      • +1

Sorry, I'm not going to stand there taking a picture. That would make me look dodgy too. I am sure someone can take a look around the cash register next time they visit the subway store at The Glen shopping centre.

    • lol, really? Anyone else seen this type of situation?

  • Still works for me,.. give food to me.. hungry.. ;)

  • +1

I just had my 7th one today, how many is everyone on?

    • Got my first today, Will go for second tomorrow lol. Do you screen shot your voucher? or do you use multiple
      emails?

      • +2

I've been printing it out, but only because I have access to free printing, true ozbargain style. I've gotten exceedingly efficient at making a new email, signing up for the voucher and printing it out right before lunch time.

        • Does it show a time limit on the voucher? I thought it'd be easily to print multiple copies instead of making multiple emails?

        • Yup, voucher says expiry time, which is 4 hours after you press activate on the website.

  • Subway are making it harder… but I am off to get another sub hehe.

Edit: Just got back, .. for the first time I saw that my name was added to a list ;)

    • add to a list, what does this mean?

      • I think he means a "list" of people who have used the said voucher. Perhaps for tracking and validation purposes to report to head office?

  • (23206 clicks) ._.

  • Got mine this morning. Thanks op!

  • +2

I think i'm on my 16th one today. Also, Thanks OP i fed my entire family of 10 on Saturday and Sunday. The sub's were delicious. I usually order Chicken Fillet but on my recent visit i was told that i could only use the voucher for the 4.95 standard subs and would to pay $2.00 extra if i wanted chicken fillet. This is two stores that i visited by the way and apparently they were given strict instruction by head office. Anyone want to confirm before i give them a call?

The whole process has become second nature to me, have access to free printing and my licence is ready to be shown when asked!
I won't be eating subway for a very long time after this feast!
Also saving a big amount of money over the past weeks, my savings account has remained the same. Unbelievable!

    • Choose from 4.95 standard subs is what Top Ryde Subway also told me. No one else mentioned that.
Which 2 stores you had same issue with?
      Wow….you got 16 so far :D

      • +2

        Stanmore and Parramatta stores.
Come next weekend, to celebrate the end of this offer, i am thinking of doing an itinerary of all subways across Sydney with the discounted TomTom GPS i got here. From memory there are well over 500 stores across the city.

        • that's gonna be an epic sub run, best of luck with it :D

i'm currently making my way to all the subway stores in perth….haven't even bothered to count how many there are

        • +2

I couldn't resist. I don't think this offer will grace us forever till eternity. I have spent well over $1000-2000 at Subway over the years during working days, it is only fair I recoup losses in true OzB style!!
          Today:

          Breakfast @ Subway - check!
          Lunch @ Subway - check!
          Dinner - pending.

The gmail dot work around worked really well but they blocked it. Oh well, i don't mind creating a separate email address at all :))

  • Carillon City food court WA are the biggest twats. weren't happy with my co-worker's credit card nor driver's licence because the names "didn't quite match"

    • cases like that that makes me abit iffy about being honest upfront. im tempted to just use these coupons only after they have made it. that way, i gain a slight leverage on them.

      • i always only show the coupon right at the end, for the same reason. but from my previous experience with this lot, they don't seem to care about just chucking rather than letting someone redeem it

        • +2

so lets all go in and waste their food then!! that will teach them.

      • that is such a good idea!!!!!

  • +3

My lunch break was a success - i just love how i planned 2 subway visits that were 3 mins apart from each other. Clocked $24.50 in discounts.

  • -1

just registerd.. and activated my offer.. however, its only valid for 4 hours after activating!?

  • +2

    update on Perth stores:
Perth - Raine Square, 300-306 Murray Street
Perth - 938 Hay St (cnr Milligan)
    Perth - Forrest Place
    Midland - Cale House

all these are now marked Not Participating. glad i got to those Perth stores before they changed their mind ;)

    • thanks for that.

  • awesome

  • Mt Lawley WA staff got stroppy at me because i dared to show them the voucher at the checkout after they had made my sub.

i told them there were no instructions on the website or in their store saying i had to show them the voucher first.

they say their reason for having to show the voucher at the start was so they "could check things" on the voucher, assuming that anyone using the voucher was a crook until proven otherwise. bloody sub nazis lol

    • man. subway seem to have alot of tightarses.

      • +3

..even more than ozbargain do :p

    • Subway pocketed over $160 billion world wide last year and that figure is to grow this year. The total expenditure for these vouchers for them is pocket change.

It does not make sense for them to scrutinize every little detail, especially when they have a board right in their store promoting a free meal!

It's just any excuse for them to not honour the offer.

I just love the difference when i show the voucher before or later, they usually skimp on the salad etc until i tell them "can i have extra X".

      • +1

i really wish they were just more consistent with their whole "procedure", things like when to show them the voucher, what sort of ID needs to be shown, exactly what subs you can have and most important of all: making sure staff know about the offer!

i'd totally wear a shirt that reads: "ozbargaining is not a crime" :)

  • Subway at Bridge road VIC was very rude and told me I could only get $4.95 SUB and bottle of water(Coke or powerade not allowed)

    • +1

Now that's ridiculous. I would have shown and re-read what is said in the voucher. There has definitely been cases of certain Subway's offering only the 4.95 sub but no case of not offering a Powerade or Coke (it's clearly written in the voucher!).

I'm not a a Powerade or Coke drinker but in the 22 or so instances of redeeming this voucher, have always selected one or the other. Never once rejected. Water is too cheap!

      • +2

I know right, she insisted that I could only get water and she wouldn't let me get the voucher to show her that it says coke, powerade or water.
But went I got to the fridge(it was placed near the door), I grabbed a bottle of coke (instead of water)anyway.

  • +4

Had the worst experience ever at North Melbourne Subway this arvo. I am left disgusted and angry at how rude and aggressive the owner was.
Before ordering I actually showed the staff my free lunch voucher and asked if I could have chicken teriyaki sub and he said no problem. Got my sub made and grabbed coke from fridge only to be asked to pay $2 extra by the owner. The owner said the voucher only allows me to get the $4.95 subs. I told him I actually asked his staff before ordering so it's not my fault. I would have ordered meat balls sub if the staff told me I can't get the chicken teriyaki. The owner actually tore up my voucher, snatched the coke and sub from my hands and asked me to "GO AWAY". I was so shocked that it took me few seconds to register what was happening.
I told him it's not right what he was doing and that he didn't have to be so rude to me. Guess what his reply was?
"Yeah I am rude, so what? I can do whatever I wants because I am the owner. And now I decided I don't want to give you anything, you can f*** off!!!"

    • Wow just wow. You were treated like scum because of his employees incompetence in failing to clearly state the conditions of the voucher. I think it's time to lodge a formal compliant as you should not be treated in such a manner, let alone the owner!

I had a similar thing happen to me today. Walked into Subway at Norwest NSW. I ordered a chicken schnitzel 6-inch. All was good, till i whipped out the voucher. The guy serving me said "the voucher is only valid for standard $4.95 subs". I said that I was not aware of such a condition because the regular subs is left up to interpretation. Anyway, he demanded that i pay $2.50 extra. I refused to pay and said that I wanted to use the voucher. Following that, I was told that I could use the voucher but would still have to pay the difference for the one he just made holding it up in his hand.

I just said, don't worry about it and walked out and headed to another one in the area 5 minutes away and generated another one using my phone.

      • Yup, I still can't believe it actually happened. The other customers in the store looked very shocked too.
I told him I would be making formal complaint to Subway and asked for his name but he won't give me his name.
I've now lodged a complaint to Subway and also posted on their facebook page.

During the conversation I was calm and never once yell at him or anything so I still don't understand why he was being so aggresive and angry at me. Even his own staffs looked uncomfortable and the guy actually mouthed "I am sorry" to me. And oh BTWI hope he's not gonna get fired for telling me I could get a chicken teriyaki sub. But even if he did I think it's a good thing, wouldn't want anyone to work for someone as rude and aggro as him. I feel sorry for his staffs.

        • It would be pretty easy to find out his name anyway, given he is the owner. It's going to even look worse for him because he refused to provide his name.
Free food/freebies sometimes can bring hostility and anger in people providing the free service.
Subway take note: your brand is being tarnished by caveman like this, because of the lack of awareness and training of promotions that you decide to bring out.

        • Exactly, if he felt that he didn't do anything wrong then he would have just given me his name.
Someone mentioned that the free lunches are paid for by the head office, not the franchise. So I don't understand why some stores are being so difficult and treat people like crap.

    • O_O

      un-****ing-believable. i'd be speechless too :(

i was told a similar thing at Clarkson WA after i got a chicken teriyaki — "just so you know next time, you can only get the $4.95 subs" but politely, and none of the toddler tantrum antics like you experienced

      • Yup, still can't believe it too. I think mentally he's not all there, maybe.
The store was very busy at the time and all other customers were staring at him in shock.

        • that's no excuse. if you can't handle the fast-paced nature of the business, GTFO instead of taking it out on customers.

i hope for his sake, there was something else going on in his life and it was just out of character, 'cause i'd hate to work for tyrant like that..

    • you went to two stores and they were both stingy? :(

      • Yup, maybe I was having bad luck that day.
Claimed one at Victoria market store today and the owner was very nice.

        • aww, yeah good on ya, keep trying the other stores :) you'll eventually get a nice person.
I myself had to go to 2 stores before the accepted my voucher :(
I am very disappointed in the subway staffs.

  • +1

And oh, as far as I know regular subs means any subs($4.95-$6.95) EXCEPT the premium ones. That's what I was told by other subway stores anyway.

    • +1

It's left up to interpretation based on the stores i have visited. Some allow all, some only 4.95 and some 4.95-6.95. Why not just list the subs that the voucher applies for rather than leaving it general with words like "standard".

  • Have had 5 subways so far, fed all 3 of us today and have had no problems. I order subway and then produce voucher at the end and have not been questioned about it at all. Although i must be the only person in Adelaide doing as all the posts seem to be from interstate.

  • Interesting thing now….One of my colleague was caught using this offer 6th time in same store (@ Rhodes).
Store manager not only rejected it but he also took his ID and went inside (somewhere they have computers??)
he then came back and said we can officially file a report against you for mis-using this offer.

    — Wondering if subway can really do it?

    • i'm also interested to know what exactly they can do that would be effective. blacklisted and refused service? EFC membership revoked? probably not worth their while trying to press charges, i reckon

    • +2

Thanks for the heads up. Not handing in my licence over at any stage. Have claimed over 30 times and when they ask, they just have a glance.

Still, the fact that your colleague repeatedly went to the same store 6 times is asking for trouble. If he handed the printed voucher, perhaps they kept a copy of it and matched it with his ID?

Try mixing it up a little. I have 30 favourite stores? so what. There's no such condition that you cannot re-register and re-claim at another store.

Also, from what i have experienced much like the vouchers ambiguous conditions, there is no formal way for staff to record the redemption. Some scrap the voucher in the bin, some keep it. They must rely on the online system to re-claim the expense.

      • Doubt it. How do they claim when people show the voucher on a mobile phone.?

Subway won't do jack. Just like Coles and woollies did nothing when their freebies vouchers went viral. If they thought the promotion was being abused they could simply just shut down the promotion.

        • Any voucher generated via their online system whether through a mobile device or otherwise is stored on their system. When a franchisee wants to claim an expense, it would be done collectively based on the records stored.

Very unlikely that Subway will take action against people abusing this offer as mentioned. It sounds more like a deterrent or scare tactic, and i don't blame them for doing it. I mean 6 times at the same store!

  • When I claimed at Oakleigh VIC store yesterday, the girl actually took my voucher and checked it against a folder.
She spent 5 minutes flipping through the pages in the folder.

  • I'm really shocked at all the comments here, my experience has been nothing but fantastic. I've claimed about 5 so far, been only asked for ID once, have even been allowed to have premium subs and I have been served by both store owners and employees. I've been to the stores dressed in either a suit, hobo clothes, and motorbike gear.

Maybe its my (awesome, I'm getting a free lunch) smile? I have lunch early at 11, could it be that too (quiet time)?

Stores have been Docklands/Sth Melbourne region.

    • I also didn't have any problems redeeming at CBD stores, the only ones I had problems with were the suburb ones. So far the best customer service I got was from 416 collins street, the girl was very friendly.
The only dodgy one in the city was the one opposite GPO, the owner told me I can get chicken teriyaki instead of $4.95 but I can't get the coke with it.

      • Could you tell me how you guys could get that without ID or print out the voucher again please?

I visited a store at Sydney CBD last week. It was my first time to use the voucher and the girl asked me my photo ID and I only got my bank cards etc which haven't got any photo but my names.

I came back the store next day with my photo ID but the girl said the voucher has been expired. :(

  • Tried to use my coupon and the store is not open today. Looks like its photoshopping time :D

    • the store locator when you're logged in doesn't show opening days/times. only the one on the main site does(?)
      http://www.subway.com.au/StoreLocator/StoreLocator.asp

got three more today :) ….parking at Hillarys is such a PITA

      • queens birthday today, so it was a hit/miss with the stores.

photoshopped one and redeemed elsewhere. no worries.

  • +2

A lot of girls will be disappointed to find out that the free 6 inch is just a sandwich.

    • +1

      i always feel dirty when i start ordering my sub — "can i get a six-inch …"

      • +1

then dont mention number. just say "can i have a shorter one, please.. the long one is too much for me"

  • anyone else in SYDNEY CBD has experience with staffs going thru a list?

    • 21 oxford street says offer finished no longer valid

  • Redeemed three subs two days ago and there were no problems at all. I usually just go up there and show them the sign up from my phone. A few were a bit confused, but there was no problems or hesitations at all.

    Thanks again OP :D

  • in the space of 5 days, ive redeemed 15 subs. no issues. even got a couple of mates in on the action. photoshop FTW!

  • You have till Monday midnight, eat up people!!!

  • strange experience at Kewdale WA store - cashier asked if i photocopied a voucher since the one i handed was in black in white. how could i have photocopied a voucher that is uniquely generated from the freaking website? she goes, "usually it's in colour."
me: "i'm sorry, we don't all have colour printers."
    her: "oh that's ok then."

WTF? if it was ok anyway, why would it matter what flipping colour it was in?

    • what the….. and which moron will print in color anyway? B&W cos its cheap. actually, i wonder if you could print on recycled paper (ie. test prints)

      • +1

i've used test prints to print out vouchers for other offers….didn't have any left for this deal hehe.

and what's common sense to us ozbargainers is outright unfathomable behaviour to people like her ;)

    • +3

I love how people automatically think that black & white = a photocopy. Obviously they never went to school or used a printer before.

  • Looks like ill be going all out to get as many subs as i can. Its become sort of a running joke with my housemates on who can claim the most in one day.

    my record is 8/day
