    • I'm seeing $2969 on AOC

    • damn, you're right.
laptop is showing me a different AOC price to my mobile. Will remove post

      …and lots of computing needs.
But let's not start a Mac.vs.Windows religious war here.

$2,850.10 at Apple AOC and can use discounted Apple gift cards.

    • Is there a deal for discounted Apple gift cards at the moment?

      • Tomorrow at Coles: (10% off literally)

Just be careful the max purchase amount for each flybuys account is $2,500 (5X$500) due to the 50,000 pts limit.

        • Thanks, does the 20x Flybuys act as the discount? I don't really use Flybuys, so is there a reason why it's considered equivalent to a flat price discount?

  • Is this considered the next level up from a Mac Mini?

Taking a quick look, Macworld says yes.

We think an M2 Pro Mac mini could be the perfect Mac for many Mac users who may be considering the Mac Studio, but there is no doubt that the Mac Studio is the better machine and the cheapest way to get maximum power.

Curiously with the exception of a 2008 iMac (which still works okay last time I booted it up 😂) all Macs I've owned have been portables. In contrast, all PCs I've owned have been desktops 🤔

PCs would be heavier and look like shit I comparison

"Yes" to the first and… sigh can't say "No" to the second. Hey it's not all about looks you know 😁

I'm more ambivalent about it nowadays — use what works for you. PC builder / gamer from back in Green Guide days (late 80s / early 90s?), bought my first Mac in 2006 and preferred it since while using Windows at work.

          • @Member 0230: I remember the green guide, every Thursday in the age.

I didn’t like the Mac back then didnt suit my needs as it does now.

            • @nicolascage: LOL and it was green.

I looked forward to it every Thursday, checking prices.

Showing our age but whatever — so happy to get myself a Tseng Labs ET4000, and later a Sound Blaster AWE32 with MIDI add-on.

Also $50 per stick of 1 MB 😂

              • @Member 0230: Ah yes when the games on the 3.5 inch floppies came in 20 disks or the codes to play the game required the manual on page 10, line 15, word 3

                • @nicolascage: Bought Wing Commander before I had the PC to play it on. (It demanded a hard disk. Tech elitist scum.) Did it again with Mechwarrior + Sidewinder Joystick.

Yes, loved the piracy protection. Some of the more clever ones involved code wheels

DJ Price match with these kinds of deals and 20% to 40% discounted DJs gift cards from prior AmEx vogue fashion night offers has been the only way I've seen to legitimately beat AOC store + discounted gift cards in terms of pricing.

However AOC has the advantage of allowing custom orders (i.e. can select individual RAM, SSD space etc. upgrades without having to choose an entirely new spec level) while retailers typically only list standard spec models. Although AOC is technically only for AEU members, haven't seen many reports of people being caught for falsely using the discount.

Also AmEx offers have been getting worse and worse so unlikely to be anywhere near as amazing as that golden era in the future

  • I think mobile might be showing different price to laptops

  • I bought this model last month but returned it 48 hours later and replaced it with the 64gb Mac Studio M2 Ultra. The base 32gb just wasn’t enough for editing with Adobe Premiere. The memory was constantly saturated over 100% and caching. For general use it’s a great machine.

    • Would you have kept the machine if you had the 64gb RAM with the M2 Max chip?

      • Yes probably. Becasue I use it for work, I didn't want to risk another return so I went for the Ultra. I think a M2 Max with 64gb would be fine. I don't think Premiere is running as smooth as the M1's at the moment. it should get better with updates.
