Eve Outdoor Cam $279 (Expired: $259 with Perks Voucher, RRP $349) @ JB Hi-Fi

120

Great price for a HomeKit security camera.

I have these at my house and very happy. Forgive my non-technical description below of why I like these cameras.

They have a floodlight that can be made brighter through the app.

No subscription required and you’re not required to use the app - they work natively with HomeKit. The camera is 1080p which provides good vision and the night vision is excellent.

Need to be hardwired for power but the internet connection is via WiFi. Nothing gets backed up to an Eve’s servers - only to ICloud

Usually $349, down to $279 with further savings available by using a perks voucher and discounted gift cards. Amazon is price matching for the black version only.

“ Nothing gets backed up to an external cloud so no chance of your footage being hacked.”

Umm, I’m pretty sure HomeKit Secure Video records to the cloud…

You may have missed the part where I said I’m not good with technical stuff. When I said external cloud I meant outside of HomeKit, I.e there is nothing stored on Eve’s servers

Probably best not to provide uninformed and misleading commentary then in an otherwise decent deal.

You sound like a really fun and easygoing person. Have a great evening

  • Op, what are the pros and cons (especially false detections)? How bright is the floodlight (at highest setting)? Like will it light up half a driveway (which is good)?

    • +1

They are not as bright as a proper floodlight sensor light but bright enough that you can see what you need to, particularly in boost mode. I would say there will be enough light to see half the driveway, but it won’t be floodlit if that makes sense.

Pros - the main one for me is the seamless HomeKit intervention. I think they are reasonably priced when on sale under $299. They are well built and I think they look good on a modern house. No subscription fees. No hub required. No hard drive required. Almost 180 degree field of vision.

Cons - They need to be hardwired. Some reviews report wifi disconnections but I’ve never experienced this.

The AI semes to be really good as we get very few false detections (maybe 1 in 6 months).

An outdoor cam that has not IP rating and only "Water resistant" ???

    Hard pass
