Buy an overpriced sim plan for 24mths get $1200 off i15 pro🙅‍♂️

Or really they mean 50% off an overpriced sim plan, pay full price for iPhone

    • +2

Exactly. The same plan can be had for $75/m for 12 months directly from Telstra: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans

      • +4

If you know how to get around on this deal from TGG or JB, you can get an iPhone 15 pro max at 19.8% or 26.5% discount

Did it before with the S23 deal with bonus Watch5 with Telstra

For the negger’s context, it was this deal. Sign up to the plan, cancel immediately and only pay the $766.67 and nothing extra. Same situation can be done for this deal too

        • +4

so pay $766.67 for $1200 off the iphone? and the rest pay with the 15% HOME gift cards.
          For a 512gb iphone 15 Pro $2397
          You'd pay $766.67 + (1197*.85) = $1784.12. 25% off RRP, pretty good.

          • +1

@googoogaga: Yup, slight miscalculation in yours and also gotta include the one month fee (if you can get Telstra to waive it off even better). It’s a bit of an effort too haha

            So in total: $2199 less $1200 less 15% ultimate gc ($100) + $766.67 + $99 = $1764.67

I would jump on this deal but I’ve already pre ordered mine from Apple with about 25% off

            • @BargainsGrabber: Could you please let know how did you manage to get 25% off?

              • +3

@keepsmiling: I’ve been patiently stacking the gift card deals with other gift card deals over a year

So when coles was running the promo on physical coles Mastercard, I bought them and used them when they had the Apple gc the next time on sale

            • @BargainsGrabber: That’s so good. You can also trs it for an extra 10%. My circumstances are much different but I’d be getting the phone for a hundred bucks with one of the trade in promos. I just choose not to because ceebs and my 13 pro does the job

              • @cerealsmok3r: Are you referring to the tourist refund scheme? I was thinking of doing the same thing as i have an upcoming overseas trip but I am worried about the consequences of bringing it back, if there are any?

How do they check if I am bringing back the same phone?

            • @BargainsGrabber: @bargaingrabber the dumb me still can’t understand how to get this. Please could you explain me when and were use the ultimate gift card for payment in JB Hifi and for how much.

              • +1

@pman54: You use your ultimate gift cards when JB have deducted the $1200 from your order

If you’re getting the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the difference would be $999 and that’s where you will use the Ultimate gc to pay it off

        • according to Telstra and their TGG plans , only the $52 monthly plan has a minimum one month term.

the other more expensive plans are a minimum term of 24 months

          • @altomic: That’s correct but the aim is not to stay on the minimum term but rather pay the ETC of $766.67

Have a read on the comments on the deal that I linked. Ppl got out and only paid the ETC

            • +1

@BargainsGrabber: right, I'm a bit slow this morning.

              I see, so rather than pay 24 months @ $99 = $ 2376, you pay 1 month (minimum) @ $99 + $766.67 "ETC/cancellation fee" = $865.67

              $1200 bonus - $865.67 = $334.33 "discount"

              the phone cost $1847 (Phone 15 Pro 128GB Blue Titanium) less $334.33 = $1512.67

              yeah?

              • @altomic: Calc sounds about right

              • @altomic: I read the updated T&C, the termination is voucher amount divided over the term and then pay the remainder whenever you leave.

                Below is from customer T&C:

                Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a The Good Guys Voucher when you purchased your Mobile
Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term,
you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the The Good Guys Voucher you
received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee).
6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of
the base Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months)
remaining in your Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-
                month Voucher Term, then in:
                (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
                (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
                (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

                • @rbkpersonal: Yup, but the CIS is only referring to when you’re offered the base $800 voucher. In this deal you’re getting $1200, and Telstra can’t charge you anything higher than $766.67

        • Don’t they make you pay for the plan ETC and the voucher?

          • @1r4n14n: They didn’t make me repay the voucher amount previously. I even did the deal twice to confirm it

            • @BargainsGrabber: I jumped on this deal previously for iphone 14pro and the ETC will also include repayment of the gift voucher valued at $800. The ETC defnitely not $760~ like mentioned above, I paid $1,490.36 for ETC. I didn't immediately cancel my telstra number, I used it for 6 months before I close my account. So you'll be looking to pay $1800+ if you cancel the plan immediately.

If you don't believe me, you can see my latest bill with Telstra. https://ibb.co/qBH2Cps

              • @yummypinacolada: How long ago did you do this? Previously the ETC included the pro rata on the voucher repayment but the change was just recent afaik

I added my two proofs in this comment

                • @BargainsGrabber: I cancel my plan May this year. And believe me I've tried chatting with 10+ different rep to bring the ETC down, but still they insist on me paying the gift voucher. Me personally wouldn't go for this deal anymore unless I need those 300gb data.

                  • @yummypinacolada: Hmm, you could’ve signed up when it was still on the old plan scheme. The S23 deal that I did was during June.

As far as I understood on the new CIS, it’s showing as $800 voucher (compared to an upsized to $1200 now), so the voucher repayment fee is only limited to $766.67 because of the initial $800 offered

The $766.67 is calculated correctly on the basis of you getting a $800 voucher ($800/24 months x 23 months)

                    • @BargainsGrabber: You are correct that the voucher is gonna be $800 instead of upsized $1200, but you still need to pay 50% of your remaining plan on top of the $766 voucher which has been pro rated from $800.

If you immediately cancel your plan you will need to pay $766.67 + $1188 from ($99 x 24)/2 that's ~$1950

                      • +1

@yummypinacolada: This is from the critical information summary, sounds like you only need to pay the voucher and not the monthly charge:

                        Can i cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 50 88 or visiting a The Good Guys store. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

                        • @VlVh: Yup, the CIS have been updated recently so any Telstra plans are now like FlOptus from Harvey Norman. All you need to pay now is the ETC, anything above is just a bonus to you

                      • @yummypinacolada: Where does it say on the CIS that you need to repay 50% of the remaining plan?

                        Can i cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 50 88 or visiting a The Good Guys store. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

            • @BargainsGrabber: @BargainsGrabber What steps did you take (and where TGG/JB)? I am planning to get a new Pro, and would love to get the extra ~$330 discount. I already have the Ultimate GCs stocked up.

      • +1

smart marketing, if they advertised it as the real monthly cost "$124.79 per month i15 pro 128gb" doubt it would get much interest

to sign up to these deals, you really need to have to be with telstra & need 300GB monthly, other than that it doesn't work, they're selling discounted overpriced sim plans but making it out the iphone is getting a huge discount

im sure it sucks alot in though

        • +2

If they bumped that 300gb to 500gb, id nearly take the deal. Sub out my nbn and stick the telstra sim in my modem and run that instead. Use belong sim in the iphone.

  • +1

I recently salary sacrificed an iPhone… effectively means you get a discount equal to your highest tax bracket, not sure if it’s common knowledge or not, this marked the first time I’ve bought an iPhone out right instead of using Qantas points.

    • Just wondering salary sacrificed phone should bought only using credit card or gift card also okay? not sure is there any limitation.

Are we allowed to do TRS claim?

      • Doesn’t matter what you use, as long as you have the invoice at the end.

And yes you can still do TRS, the system is not linked as far as I can tell.

    • ye yeah almost half price

  • Just signed up today to get a $1200 jbhifi voucher, and used it to order a new iPhone.
I don’t mind the monthly cost as I can claim it back from tax. Making phone call is part of my job.

    • Can you confirm if invoice has been given after $1200 discount or for full price. I need this because I wanted to claim TRS.
      Thanks

      • Full amount

        • Thanks for confirming, which means if I go with Pro Max 256GB which would cost $999 after $1200 off but invoice for $2199.

  • Just on another side note, JB are doing the $1500 off on the S23 series too if you’re signing up on the $99 plan

  • +5

Or … buy $150 yearly plan and save $2100 for 24 months :)

    • Your $150 yearly sim is Apple and orange, you will surely need an NBN plan, that is another $60-70.

Many can ditch NBN with plans like this so it actually work out cheaper.

Having said that the carrier deal from Vodafone can work out cheaper if you can live with 200G data.

      • +1

        200GB of data… well I need 5G for OzB, 10GB work and 10-20 videos.

        I don't watch 4k adult entertainment…

      • +2

How does one ditch NBN? What do you do when you/your device is not home? Home security, kids study, air con, lights, etc.?

        • +2

Home security, kids study, air con, lights, etc.?

I don't internet for any of those and I don't consider myself an outstanding case…

        • Home security, kids study, air con, lights, etc.

Except for Kids Study why does all the other stuff need internet?

As for the kid study, you first need a kid (which I dont have) and second just pool the kid phone in the plan (and make sure you uninstall all their streaming apps).

Me and my wife been running on two phone data pool for years now, never understand why people need NBN.

I don't watch 4k adult entertainment either nor the normal, waste of bandwidth

  • +1

This is equally to $49 per month for the sim only not including mobile.

    No deal.

    • +2

Are there better offers that give you 300GB for $49 per month?

      Honest question.

      • -1

Will be more than happy to sign for $49/month Telstra plan… Oh, wait it comes with $1500 for the phone :)

Aldi have $55/m for 120GB data without any contracts.

        • That's your case and apprently you don't need a new iphone paid in 24 instalments.

          Why did you neg?

          • @pizzaguy: He's entitled and probably using nokia phone that don't uses data.

          • @pizzaguy: neg, because can't see a deal here. More like selling overpriced plans + phone for fake discounts. But YMMV - some people would like 300GB of data or phone with new features like USB-C port….

            • @localhost:

some people would like 300GB of data or phone with new features like USB-C port….

              You hit the jackpot here.

I suppose you don't neg every deal for a pram if you don't have a baby and don't need it. You don't neg Cadbury deals if you prefer Whittaker's.

Yet you downvoted the deal for a new iphone with a tonne of data at a price that's nowhere else to find, because you don't want/need it… [facepalm].

              • -1

@pizzaguy: I think there was a better deal for $250 off new iPhone, even without trade the old one - you can use with your existing plan. But forcing you to sign an expensive 24 month plan for some 'discount' it's a no deal for me.

And yes, I prefer Cadbury and Lindt, not a Whittaker fan :)

                • @localhost: I think you keep missing the fact that it's not a deal FOR YOU and IT IS A LEGIT DEAL for others.

I have no idea how to explain it in a more comprehensive way. Our convo here is:
                  - this is not a deal
                  - why?
                  - because I don't need the phone and I'm fine with 100GB for less
                  - but there's no better deal than this
                  - but I don't need 300GB
                  - but somebody else may need it at that price
                  - but it forces you to sign for 24 months

                  WTH!

                  • @pizzaguy: no deal for me. that's enough for my neg.
You can upvote if you like it, I don't care.

                    • @localhost: All I'm asking is to provide a better deal for this phone and 300GB/m at that price…

I'm dying to get this at better price than under these seemingly great conditions!

                      • @pizzaguy: What about this one - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/800052

                        $1000 of new phone, 200GB/m for $75 or 150GB/m for $69
+1000 min international minutes (missing in this deal).

                        • @localhost: The linked Vodafone is: $1800 over 24 mths for 200GB/month and the phone is $1000 off.

Here it's $2376 over 24 mths for 300GB/month and the phone is $1200 off.

Total cost of the subscription is $576 more at Telstra, but you get extra $200 off the phone. So let's say Telstra is $376 more expensive
                          over 2 years.

That's $16 a month for 100GB extra per month. That's a great deal to me. Not to mention you get Telstra network instead of Vodafone's….

As I mentioned before: Lucky people who don't need a tonne of mobile data for work or whatever!

                          • @pizzaguy: Where are 1000 international minutes? No deal for me…

                            • @localhost:

                              No deal for me…

That's going to be a mayhem once you start negging any Whittaker deals. Only because it's not a deal for you because you need Cadbury:

And yes, I prefer Cadbury and Lindt, not a Whittaker fan :)

                        • @localhost: vodafone does not have enough reception, you spend so much money on a phone you might aswell have the reception to use it

                          • @Understandable: I was with TPG (Voda network) and now with Aldi (Telstra). Guess what… no reception now in the basement :D

            • @localhost: If tech innovations are depending on people like you then we will not be here today. Sub $100 annual with dumping garbage from China is all that we need right?

I suggest you actually go through the Apple launch video just write down how many of the features is not in an Android phone.

To clarify I am not against Android, I have S23 5G and iPhome 13 Pro. There are things that is missing from iPhone that Android has and vice versa. Unfortunately to say I am moving more and more task that I do to iPhone.

Just a note "new features like USB-C port" is not a new thing but worthy for many to have. Not to mention Apple with the latest update has bring a lot of the new features to older models, something that none of the android phone manufacturers do.

              • @syswong: Well, I am in the same industry and believe me… nothing new here :)

Best ever.. iPhone, OK you might like it, for me it's just a phone. Even my personal phone is… just a mobile phone (S20 FE). Using it for Waze, emails, youtube, browsing and some authentication. Nothing fancy that can be Android or MacOS specific. And I prefer to give $2k (or more) for a good laptop rather for phone. But it's just my opinion.
I don't want to start war or whatever which one is better - both have good and bad sides, but my personal opinion - this above is not a good deal. You can get better deal by using 15% gift cards and your current plan. You don't need fancy 300GB plan without international calling.
Even Vodafone deal is better with double data.

                • +1

@localhost: it is far from best ever, I give you that.

Some feature like post focusing with full picture depth data encapsulation in 24 mp HEIF file that is not much bigger that the 12mp file? that is something, plus the new video feature (which I am not into but its there). Then the satelite features (which I wish it does work that well), it can now use with where is my iPhone and send you location via satelite. I really hope Samsung is reading this and add all these into the S24. It cost half the price of iPhone and I am all up for it.

As for the plan (The Apple store Vodafone deal), I know exactly what you talking about. I am on it when I purchase the iPhone 13 Pro. The only reason I did that was because I can't get good Telstra signal from where I live which is important consider I don't have NBN. One advantage of JB and TGG deal is you can stack trade in with GC and the deal together. That save a lot of money as long as you have good Telstra signal. Apple store deal is close but because its apple, it will not accept trade in from Samsung handset. I asked Vodafone as an existing customer would they offer a bit more credit on top of the trade in and they told me to just go buy from Apple store….

With the amount of data on these plans and pool two smaller plans together, no one need NBN anymore. Don't know why it is so hard for people to understand? Well except those streaming 4K but then the is Felix, $120 for a three people family…..

                  • @syswong: Look, I am not against iPhone - it's a good phone after all. Just read about new photo features (you mentioned some) and might give it a go.
Tried photo from 14 (normal, not Pro) on A4 print and doesn't look that bad. Well, no compare to serious cameras like my 1Dx but still good and usable.

                    • @localhost: Well that is a different situation if you are a camera shooter, phones can never replace that but It is also 20X lighter than you camera gear.

All my cam gear are eating dust now since I can no longer justify the hustle of carrying all that gear. The key part is I hate doing post so phone photography is no brainer for me.

Just a note if you already have iPhone 14, update to IOS 17 first. 80% of the feature should be there like the post focusing function, but you don't think get the auto portrait mode. I think the log profile will also be there but not sure (like I said I don't do video). I was going to upgrade to 15 but after installing IOS 17 I think I may hold back and see what S24 have. So me not a Apple fan either, just want the good feature on my phone, that it.

                      • @syswong: well, 1:1 like me. Last time I've used 70-200 lens was two years ago. Too heavy with 1Dx combo and might go to gumtree. 14 is my daughter's phone - I still use S20 FE and perhaps it's time to replace it soon. It's good for daily photos for memories and that's all… just checked it's 3 years old and still holding.

      • Not really, closest is $55 for 300gb with vodafone…I just saw they have a double data promotion. 300gb for $55 and 600gb for $65

Good deal for someone has phone bill allowance from company.

  • @op here is the direct link to the deal

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/mobile-and-broadband-plans#

its in the banner on the page.

  • https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans Is this pretty much the same deal?

    • Yes, except with JB, you can use it towards anything.

  • Ok, still trying to do the calc - so bear with me as am a bit of a noob with these things

For instance to get iPhone 15 Pro Max 512gb

List price + monthly plan cost - voucher = purchase price
    $2547 + $99 - $1200 = $1446

Further discount with Ultimate 15% off GC offer
    1446 - 15% ($216.9) = $1229.1
    ——————————————————————————————
Then terminate within the 1st month and the math becomes

Max voucher repayment fee + purchase price = total cost to own the iPhone
    $766.67 + $1446 = $2212.67

    For someone that used Ultimate GC 15% off offer it becomes;
    $766.67 + $1995.77
    ——————————————————————————————
Savings when compared to outright purchase
    $334.33

If you used Ultimate GC 15% off offer
    $551.23
    ——————————————————————————————
Does these calculations sound about right?

    • You might have to pay the ETC to Telstra and not JB/TGG - in which case the 15% discount will not apply to the $766.

Can anyone who has signed up and cancelled confirm the actual numbers?
