I've got too many SD cards and drives, do I need this?

  • +1

    Any good for Dashcams?

    • +1

Most dashcams only support up to 128GB cards, any bigger and you'll get corrupted video files so check your manual first.

Nothing stopping you from using these cards, but endurance cards would be better suited.

    • I wouldn't use this. I use a Sandisk High Endurance card in my Tesla and seems to be working all good.

  • Curious, what do people use 512GB for?

    • +2

Just got a tablet, I presume can use it for that.

      • some xiaomi tablet doesnt have memcard slot i think

    • +6

      Switch

        • +2

The read speed is plenty fast enough for a Switch. The extreme cards are overkill.

        • 🤷 works fine for me

        • +8

the switch doesn’t even support the speed extreme cards are capable of, lmao stop spewing lies

        • Lol no I own all of those cards and the difference is barely perceivable in the real world

what do people use 512GB for?

I have one inside a tiny micro-SD card reader, which makes it smaller than many FIT drives. I keep this in the coin section of my wallet. This way I can have all of my work files with me at all times, all my PDFs, my entire ripped music collection, and a fair number of ripped movies as well. With the addition of a small OTG USB cable, I can plug the card reader into my Android phone, and access all the files on it.

Essentially, I treat it like a portable HDD, but it's way smaller and not at all fragile. If I do somehow manage to damage it, I can always pull the micro-SD card out of the damaged card reader, and put it into a new tiny card reader.

But aren't USB3 thumb drives cheaper, more durable, and better suited for that application?

        • Yes, and if you want a more reliable and still portable look into a 2230 ssd and slap it into a 2230 usb c enclosure and ur laughing. You can get 1tb for around $100 or 2tb for $200ish

        • +1

aren't USB3 thumb drives cheaper, more durable, and better suited for that application?

          • Faster, yes, so better suited for some. I have no speed problems reading PDFs at USB2 speeds, no noticeable slowdown. I do much more reading of files than writing, so USB3 has no real advantage for me.
          • USB3 thumb drives are MUCH larger, and run MUCH hotter. Here's the card reader I use: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/225459431393 The micro-SD card slots inside the USB plug. It's tiny by comparison, it's smaller than most FIT drives.
          • USB3 thumb drives are LESS durable. Many of them don't even have metal plugs for the USB port.
    • Gopro in 4k and 5k requires shit tonnes of storage, though this won't be fast enough for 5k recording.

    • I bought 1 for steamdeck but now using it in Rog ally

    • Never enough for Gopro, I have to keep uploading onto my GoPro online account.

    • I have a high resolution off-line music collection on one. Which inuse in my ibasso dx170 music DAP.

    • Steam Deck

      • If not GG GC, you need to swap it to GG GC, if possible to use it.

  • +3

Thanks OP. Ordered just to add to my dusty SD cards collection.

  • Any good for the DJI Action 4? Will be using for 4k recording.

  • Hm, $5 delivery, $44.20, get it by Nov 10. Amazon $49, get it tomorrow.

Not that good of a deal, thought it was $3 delivery???

    • I bought from Amazon yesterday. You might be right on this

    • Delivery IS 3 dollars if you choose the standard option

      • Nope, $5 was standard for me. No other option.

Got it for $29, thanks. Price matched with JB-Hi-Fi + used my birthday coupon.

    • Did you have to go into store? Online chat are saying they don't match coupon codes and I wouldn't be surprised if store staff say the same…

      • Did it using their online chat, I also mentioned them the FRENZY23 code.

    • maybe could lower price

  • Would this work ok for 4K video recording on a Sony ZV camera? V30 suggests yes?

  • +7

I purchased this card for $24.82. In the morning, I went to JB Hi-Fi to do a price match, and the staff quickly matched it to $39.20. Then, I used a $10 perks coupon and paid with an 85% off gift card. It was a perfect shopping experience.

    Back in stock today!

    • Thanks :)
Removed the expiry on the deal

  • Not happy. Ordered 2 yesterday (24/10) at around 6.30am with $3 shipping and paid using PayPal. Unfortunately my order was cancelled at 12pm. Even though PayPal and bank statement show the payment was successfully made.

Reason: Unfortunately, your payment has been unsuccessful. Your order has been cancelled and any payment received is being refunded (allow 1-4 business days)

  • Is this good for Cameras?

  • +2
