This or the nokia at JB?

    • +6

I'm leaning towards the Nokia thanks to software updates, hardware looks a little better in the Moto but good luck getting updates out of them.

    • +2

Nokia has better camera, screen and updates.

  • Oh man, paid $277 with Mobileciti a few weeks ago :(

    • Can they refund the difference?

      • +5

I'll message, funnily enough I just got a message from them asking for a review and asking them if there's anything they can do.

        • Same here, please let me know on results
Maybe order new one and return old one 😎

          • +1

@aidin: I spoke to ebay and that's what they advised. and eBay are not willing to do the variance refund saying it's a coupon thing. Not a price drop. eBay also advised to buy a new one and return the old one

        • +2

No harm asking, but they probably won’t refund because the 20% off is an eBay Plus member discount, the phone is still listed for $295 by Mobileciti.

      • +2

        highly unlikely

    • +3

Oh man paid $239 on Lenovo student website two weeks ago…

      • +13

Sorry to hear about your loss of $3 …. Million.

  • What's the Android version that this comes with? Also, what's Motorolla commitment for future updates?

    • +4

Should come with Android 13, as the phone was just released a few months ago.

      • Ok … just saw that in Motorola page too. Thanks.

    • +2

      I'm committed

  • +1

    'immersive'

    • +5

Yeah it's just like going to the cinema.

    • +5

Blows imax out the water really.

  • +4

Why shouldn't I get one of these?

    • +2

Keeping an eye for responses on this :-)

    • +7

LCD screen, most likely mediocre camera, recent budget tier and even some upper mid moto's have had unoptimized software filled with bugs, and moto has a bad track record of fixing them. Some Android updates even introduced additional bugs (Read the GSMarena device comments section for any moto before you buy them, people usually state any issues there). That being said, none of that is unlivable and anyone in the market for a $250ish local phone wouldn't be able to do better. If local warranty isn't a big deal, the Redmi Note 12 is a better buy at this price, but from Ali Express and running Xiaomi's Miui, has it's own issues.

    • I grabbed once since my S9+ was starting to show its age.

I don't like the lack of wireless charging, and my adaptive brightness keeps disabling itself. The phone is snappier to start, but seems to thermal throttle quite easily.

There's a few things that I personally miss from Samsung's flavour of android that I thought were standard, such as syncing 'do not disturb' between my smart watch and the phone.

I was considering swapping back to my s9+, but will probably wait to grab an s24 in a few months.

    • No bootloader unlocking (yet),
      nor custom ROMs.

  • Very good phone, comes with android 13 that is very stable.

    • Very good phone, no waterproofing to speak of (hi from a G52).

  • Warranty info blank…… 12 months or more if you threated with consumer protection?

    • i cannot remember which website i got the info from, but MobiCiti gets their phones from outside of Australia and as such, is not covered by warranty at all. same for Kogan and AllPhones.

      • "… Warranty
        Warranty 12 Months(AU)
Warranty Booking Motorola - Book Online
        Warranty Support Motorola - 1300 138 823
they seem to suggest that motorola will be warranting this?…"

  • +4

It seems like Motorola isn't one of the better ones with updates? Great specs for the price tho.

  • +1

    Obligatory "How's the camera?" query.

My OPPO A74's camera has been dogsh!t since day one despite having a 48mp sensor, so I'm not particularly trusting when it comes to seeing capable-enough looking hardware.

    • +1

It is a sub 300$ phone, you aren't getting a good camera

      • +3

If im not getting iphone 15 pro max level camera for $300. Why bother?

        /s

    • Wondering if camera is better than the old LG V30+ phone.

      • It's not. I tried it in store. Same quality

        • that's so lame. a 6yo phone better than new phone

          • @bisaya: Yep. I still haven't found a meaningful "upgrade" ever since then. TCL 20 Pro 5g is probably the best bet, camera isn't amazing but a slight improvement over v30, and it isn't missing any other essentials (3.5mm, microSD, qi charging, NFC)

    • +1

Sorry but you won't get a good camera at this price range. mp is not an indicator of capable enough hardware. You are buying budget phones and expecting capable cameras. Cameras are one of the main distinguishers between high end phones, flagship phones, and pro phones. Cameras are what budget phones will always cut down on. Pixels are probably the only brand with devices in the midrange that have decent cameras thanks to their software.

    • actually that is not really accurate. after you have taken your picture, transfer it to a computer or laptop and have a look at the pic again. it will look the same as a pic taken by another 48MP phone. i think OPPO phone display is not exactly the best.

    • If the camera is important, consider a used flagship instead. A refurb s21 ultra can be had for $300 if you're lucky

  • +2

may as well just wait for black Friday…hoping it would be cheaper or may be stackable with some cashback.

  • -1

It's showing as $295 for me. What am I doing wrong?

    • +1

      Use eBay Plus code 'DASO20'.

  • This or samsung a34

    • +1

      definitely Samsung A34 for $236.

      • Where can you get this price please?

    • This, the A34 is much more expensive

      • Yer $377 at the moment

        • If you don't mind spending another $140, A34 is a great budget phone. Water Resistance, OLED, way better cameras, better long term software support (Guaranteed to get Android 14 and 15). To me, A34 is well worth the extra money (Samsung OLED is always beautiful and bright). But A34 only support 1 SIM card, if you need 1 SIM + 1 eSIM, then this G54 is a good choice.

      • G54 has more RAM 8GB vs 6GB.. if only the A34 has 8GB… On a A53 and its laggy as hell with 6GB.

        • Could be dues to Motorola optimisation. Samsung might run fine on 6GB?

          • @Jklaro: Motorola runs nearly stock Android compared to Samsung's very bloated OneUI, so I doubt that.

        • +1

Try turning off ram plus. A lot of samsung phone has it on by default, basically allows the phone to offload stuff that would usually go to ram onto local storage.

It'll allow it to store more stuff in temporary memory, but a lot of people say it makes it "feel laggy" since apps are running off of local storage instead of dedicated ram

Phone ram doesn't work the same way as computer ram, if it runs out usually all it means is prior apps get relaunched

  • Hmmm is the camera good bang for buck?

I know the pixel has great cameras but is it worth paying 4x as much? Is the camera 4x as good as this?

    • People forget this. I mean there is a point of diminishing returns.

    • Budget phone = budget camera. You will never get a great camera experience under 300$

    • +1

The camera is average and poor especially in poorly lit areas. GCAM is a must to improve the photo quality. Please note there's no ultrawide camera lense on this, only macro.

Gcam makes photos a lot better, however I'm yet to find a stable release which doesn't lag in the viewfinder. Because it's a new phone, must wait for a new Gcam release. You will need Gcam on this.

  • This or Redmi Note 12?

    • +3

I find that a lot of these budget phones look similar. It comes down to individual specs and what android operating system you like to use. I prefer budget Oppo's the best and sometimes Motorola if they're really cheap. Haven't had experience with recent Xiaomi's. Miss Huawei.

  • +3

Is it just me or is Motorola really disrupting the market with their price : performance?

Even their flagships that compete with the iphone pro max and S23+ are like $1000 cheaper lol

    • It's their market strategy at the moment.

You get what you pay for in terms of weak points such as build quality, cameras and software support.

  • Chasing a first phone for a kid entering high school. At this price I wont even care if they break it or lose it in the first year :)

    • Hello officer. This comment please. Thats child abuse.

      /s

      • As someone who is about to do the same, for the third time, I am contemplating getting a used iPhone X/11 for a similar price, the main reason being the screen replacement cost. Less common Andriod phones seem to have more expensive screens, whereas Apples (aftermarket) are cheaper due to scale and competition. You find yourself asking if it's worth spending $200 to replace a screen on a $236 phone. I am Android through and through, but even $250ish cheap phones get expensive if you replace them every 6 months.

  • +1

Great spec for the price, at least on paper.

However, I've thought long and hard, and decided to keep using my Oppo Reno4 Z 5G as the daily driver.

  • +1

I always buy phones in this price range, so can't compare to more expensive phones.

I bought the Moto G50 last year, and thought it was great. It was reliably water resistant when I was caught in the rain and never needed restarting. It stopped vibrating for some reasons though.

The G54 is even better. More lightweight (makes the G50 seem like a brick) and screen is just as good. I have only had to restart it once due to glitching, but that could be normal for a new phone.

  • +2

When there was that G82 deal at $200….isn't this comparable or even better than that deal?

Comparing the Motorola G82 and G54, here are their detailed specifications:

The G54 also supports Android 13, an update over the Android 12 in the G82.

    • +2

Please note that those are the international specs for the G54. We get the China version here in Australia:
      https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g54_(china)-12543.php

Good phone, however differences are no ultra wide camera (macro instead) and 5000mah battery.

G54 international seems better specced than our one.

does GCAM work? Custom ROM support?

        • Yes, you have to find the right Gcam version which suits. Stock camera is bad, gcam is good.

Right now camera viewfinder stuck on 10fps due to autofocus and mediatek processor unfortunately. Hope there's a gcam version that can fix this.

        • Mediatek usually has no custom ROMs

          • +1

@Fobsessive: Thats were mediatek cpu phones are seriously lacking.

    • NFC?

  • +2

Great phone, I got one from Bigw a couple of weeks ago.

  • +1

Wow even cheaper than education store. Bought two previously at $239.

  • -3

moto is a joke , they had their day !

    • +1

Why? They're really competitive the midrange market. My 5 year old midrange Moto is still going strong.

    • +2

What an absolutely silly comment, Motorola currently represent #1 bang for buck

  • Hi gang, does anyone know how to go about installing stock android on these? Or how to uninstall all the Motorola stuff?

    • Motorola's generally have pretty stock android without any bloat. My G31 is clean stock. It has a Moto app with handy shortcuts but that's it. It's clean Android with no UI. That's why I've always liked Motorola phones.

    • Moto's skin is close generally enough to stock Android

  • Oh I see, is there some way to remove the moto apps?

    • Yes via ADB

  • How long is this going to be available for?

  • -2

    Phone: Nokia.
This motor less than $250 phone/computer threshold, as well.
All phones/computers will be less than $250.

    • +1

There is no $250 threshold for phones or computers.

What are you talking about ?

  • +3

Is this one of the reasonably best phones you can get under $250? Looking to pick up one for the ol' gramps

    • +1

less than $200 today with eBay Plus!

      • Thanks for letting me know, ended up buying one :)

        • +1

For $200, NFC, 5g, 128GB Storage, 8 GB RAM, seems like a steal!

  • FML. ordered black, received blue.
black now sold out on ebay, but not when i ordered!!

    • Black is available again!
