Really good program, but ashame it is just for iphone and not ipads…

That seems stupid considering the graphic in the logo looks a hell of a lot like a iPad…

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

there are 2 diff apps for splashtop 2. one for iphone, free and for ipad is not.

  • like others have said… shame iPad version isn't free too. gonna have to keep an eye out and hope that becomes free sometime soon…

    • Unable to actually try it, but it does say "Compatible with … ipad"

Compatibile with iPad means exactly that.. you get the screen size of the iphone, but in a smaller window on the ipad..
        ie
        http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/01/applet…

Is that useful as a remote desktop app on an ipad? hahah.. no..

Of course it will work on an iPad (to my knowledge it is impossible to make an iOS app that won't), but as it isn't a "Universal app" it will run as an iPhone app in a small window in the centre of the screen, you can zoom 2x but that just doubles every pixel rather than increasing the resolution.

There is a separate iPad that will run at iPad resolutions, but that still costs money.

        • Unrelated, but you can make an app that doesn't work on iPad. The World is Not Enough is an example, the game requires you have a flash (the LED on the back of the iPhone) so it doesn't run in compatibility mode on iPad.

teamviewer is free and offers virtually the same features

    • Splashtop was originally designed to pass video and audio through to your iOS device smoothly so that you could watch flash videos which in my experience Teamviewer can't really handle, no idea if that is still their remit though.

I agree for standard remote access, Teamviewer or Logmein are free and perfectly good.

      • i suppose it depends heavily on what you're using it for. splashtop resizes my desktop everytime a smaller screen connects to it whereas teamviewer doesn't. Video does not pass through smoothly in teamviewer at all but you can see snippets whereas VNC won't even display the image

    • plus you can access from any browser with TV.

  • I could never Get Splashtop to work outside of a Wifi Network. I use Logmein free now.

    • it needs an in-app purchase for that…

      • I had it when it was first released (Free upgrade from the first) No wonder they gave the upgrade away…

Sweet! Cheers. Might be good to add to title OP.

    • not free for android phones

      • Any way to use a market enabler or similar to install it on an Android phone?

    • Yup, free for Android tablets =)

  • it is awesome! i managed to get a "free trial copy" on my ipad and iphone last weekend. it works perfectly on my pc (win8) and rmbp.

  • It was free on android market for quite a while. Very good app.

  • Ok So I've just switched to Android SG3 LTE and have been loving the change. Having said that, the lack of reduced/free android apps I see on this site and any of the "stores" is starting to annoy me :(

  • I can control my mac?

What mac? As if thats going to happen.

  • Isn't Splashtop the one that sends plaintext authentication for logging into your computer? Or has this been updated?

It is now 2.99. not free eany more.

    Pls mark deal expired.

    • just got it, still free for me

    • It is still free….there is Splashtop and Splashtop2 (the one that is free)

  • I have used all the ones I see mentioned except this.
So far I have liked iTapp the best but would like to try this for free on my iPad and will happily buy it if it's better for me than iTapp

    • Hmmm
I wanted to try this and want to use it to remote into work which has an address like remote.dfghjkl.com.au not 222.333.444.555 yet the only manual configuration option is for an ip number format. it acepted the address in words but I want it to use 3389 which is the standard remote port and works for other remote packages
I added the port too but it doesn't connect
