  • weird I thought thrifty was rebranded to sixt?

    • Not rebranded, Sixt purchased the franchise rights. So technically Thrifty is Sixt now, but they'll obviously continue to trade on Thrifty's long established brand name here in Australia.

Not exactly. Kingsmill bought the franchise rights for Sixt in Australia, and if anything, Hertz is now trading on the reputation that Kingsmill established in Australia.

Kingsmill (NRMA) was the master franchisee of Thrifty in Australia, and owns/operates all the locations (ex Thrifty, now Sixt) in Australia.
Hertz bought Thrifty worldwide (2012-ish) after Kingsmill was already trading as Thrifty.
I believe the franchise agreement ended around 2021, and at this stage, NRMA/Kingmill went looking for a brand to operate under (other option was to create their own brand) - the only noticeable absences from our market were Sixt and Enterprise/National brands (though, they now have a small presence and partnership with Redspot)

Thrifty in Australia is now operated by Hertz (like the rest of the world), so you'll rock up to a Thirfty/Hertz co-branded location if you book on the Thrifty website.

  • And Sixt are 100% owned by NRMA

  • Would have thought they would have extra vehicles on weekdays not weekends .

    • Corporate bookings - and they generally don’t need cars on weekends.
