Just in time to embrace NSW money hungry regulation this Thursday

SirFlibbled on 31/10/2012 - 15:12 ¶Yeah been thinking of upgrading my ST3 looks like a good way to go about it. Connecting me and the missus phones to the same unit will be useful too.

I'm often in phone conferences while in the car and I'm worried about other participants hearing vehicle noises. There doesn't seem to be a mute function but anyone who has used this, can they comment on the quality of the call for people on the other end? I'm sure they've thought about this since it's a purpose built car handsfree unit, but I'd like to know if anyone has feedback (heh) on this.

+1 voteCheers JV. I just read a bunch of reviews from various sites and the S4 is highly regarded, particularly for the multipoint feature over the S3.
Sound quality is excellent and the voice features will work easily with Windows Phone 7.5.

gummibears on 31/10/2012 - 15:50 ¶You must be a very busy person to be having regular phone conferences in the car.

sunnysydney on 31/10/2012 - 15:40 ¶Very relevant with these new NSW road rules, or lets say old rules but forced implementation.
One of the rules not given here is,
No holding your mobile phone in the car: The new laws make it clear that a driver in a moving or stationary vehicle (unless parked) MUST NOT HOLD a phone in their hand other than to pass the phone to a passenger.http://www.mynrmacommunity.com/motoring/2008/06/30/road-rule...
Also any feedback on www.N1wireless.com ?

The safety factor is really what triggered it for me, I've handled my phone to put it on speaker or mute and a neat handsfree unit like this is ideal.
Regarding N1 Wireless, Web Of Trust has a low confidence but positive rating: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.n1wireless.com. Previous deal was received well an OP said they have a good reputation: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82994.
The order form was decent and reading through their T&Cs nothing unusual, though they do mention they don't ship outside US & Canada, something they probably haven't updated given international post calculator and ability to choose any country.

Good price.
Also, I highly recommended this -> Octopus OCTOBT3 Solar Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit
I have been used it for 2 years and still working strong. Even I keep it charging for 8 hours everyday under strong sunshine and hot like a boiled egg every time I touch it. :p
Also it can sync the contact list with my iphone and triggering SIRI by pressing the button once on it.
+1 voteDamnit… already bought it…
"The BlueAnt S4's lack of its own internal voice dialer is a bit of a black mark on BlueAnt's claim of the device being the first "true" hands-free system, putting the speakerphone at the mercy of the capabilities of phone with which it is paired. Users of, for example, Android phones will find this to be quite an annoyance. "
sure there will be some type of work around though…
might be an old article…
+1 voteI was reading about it before and there's some voice command you can give that it turns on the voice commands on your phone through vlingo, where you can use the voice dialling through there. Sounds clunky, but their claim holds up. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to use in reality once you're used to it.
+1 voteI think a lot of reviews were written around the time of Android 2.2 and since then there has been a multitude of improvements to voice recognition on phones (across Android/iOS/Windows Phone).
For example, Windows Phone isn't even mentioned as being supported but online people are commenting that it works flawlessly.

Great price. I've had it for about 18 months (after upgrading from a S3), it generally works quite well.
One annoyance I've had with it which wasn't a problem with the S3 is that it fairly regularly doesn't recognize you've entered the vehicle so doesn't automatically connect with your phone.
In such a case you just have to hit the power button manually at which point it connects, which is kind of annoying.
+6 votesWell, should have mentioned that its a open box content. Package content tab clearly states open box. Also website states that
" OPEN BOX items will not carry the manufacturers warranty, for this reason we highly recommend purchasing a warranty plan offered on our website through CPS WARRANTY. "From the website :
Package Content
*Open Box S4 True Handsfree Voice Controlled Car Speakerphone
Car charger
1 Metal Visor Clip
User manual
AVOIDED !!!!!
+1 voteThe Land of Smeg on 31/10/2012 - 20:39 ¶Warranty is from a US company, I don't even know if they would honour it in Australia, and even if they did, they would expect you to pay return shipping, making it hardly even worth it. If you're going to do this, use the Shoppers insurance on the credit card (eg: I use 28 degrees with free shoppers insurance as long as you keep the card in debit) and at least get 6 months warranty that way.
aussieaubs on 31/10/2012 - 16:45 ¶i bought mine ages ago - didnt pay this… great price great unit…
DONT FORGET IT DOES A2DP so you can stream your Bluetooth phone audio /music / ipod / iphone through it. (sounds ok, but you can do it…)
LolwutMikka on 31/10/2012 - 18:24 ¶Shipping increased to $17??
EDIT: Nevermind, $17 shipping for 2 devices

Thanks OP was about to get the Aldi one

Im sure the BlueAnt one will be better.

Reviews for the site are a bit mixed though, seems like theres a quite a few unhappy customers with their refurbished products.

Shop is in NYC. Hopefully it isn't under water. Also may be up to something dodgy: http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.n1wireless.com
+2 votesNot sure if anyone mentioned it but these items are "OPEN BOX" items and don't carry any warranty (you have to pay extra). So basically, they can sell you broken or damaged units and you have no grounds to return the item. Wish I had seen this before purchasing….
ibfragalot on 31/10/2012 - 21:21 ¶They hid the fact it's open box, and has no warranty! Geeze, dodgy. I wouldn't have bought had I known. Not ops fault thou, they hid it quite well.
+1 voteThis is a good price, although the 'open box' thing should have been more clearly declared.
I've had one of these for ~12 months, not a great fan of it. It tries to be too clever for its own good, doesn't play nicely with android ("downloading contacts….downloading contacts…downloading contacts…forever") but worst of all it takes a long conversation to achieve voice dial, i.e.
You "Phone commands"
S4 "activating voice commands on the connected phone" (wtf? - like lets what's the most words possible to say 'connected')
You "Hi galaxy"
Galaxy "What would you like to do ?"
You "call joe blogs"
Galaxy "multiple numbers found for that contact. Which one would you like to call?"
etcMy old nokia brick N82 plus motorola 505 handsfree was infinitely better; tap a single button, say the name and it dialled, every time, no delay, no annoying long conversation.

kingofduck on 01/11/2012 - 17:22 ¶Thanks heaps for the deal. My colleagues & I order 5 of them in total. The open box better be good otherwise, we'll end up having lots of identical paper weights in our office.
bargain_hunter10 on 10/11/2012 - 10:56 ¶I received mine within 5 days. But it can't pair with my android phone; tried 2 different phones. It says no phone found. Anyone has idea what could be wrong?

I received mine yesterday & have to muck around bit but in end successfully paired it with my new Samsung S3.
1. Slide the power switch on the side of the S4 to the ON position.
2. If this is the first time you have used the S4 it will go straight to pairing mode. The voice prompts will start to
talk you through the pairing process and the light will fl ash blue.
For subsequent pairings, say BlueAnt Speak To Me, wait for the S4 to ask you to Say A Command and then
say Pair Me.
3. Follow the voice prompts to pair the S4 with your phone. The pairing code is 0000 (four zeros).

Very impressed with N1 Wireless, the open box condition had me worried but it turned up in a nondescript cardboard box with a car-charger (even though I forgot to ask for one). Mine was in brand new condition, no scratches or marks and still had the protective plastic cover on it. Basically it's every bit new except in OEM packaging. Shipping was very quick and mine even got delivered on Sunday especially considering the aftermath of Sandy.
The "Designed in Australia" sticker is a bit weird to see, considering I could get it delivered from New York far cheaper than I could anywhere locally (DSE/JB selling for $129~).
Yet to test call performance but I'm confident after reading the reviews on it. Working flawlessly with inbuilt phone commands on Windows Phone 7.5 - it will read aloud incoming messages and I can dictate messages to the phone. To trigger a new SMS, I just say "BlueAnt speak to me" then "Phone Commands". It is a truly handsfree solution, no need to touch a button to make/receive calls and texts.
Tempted to pick up another at this price but certainly no need yet.
sunnysydney on 12/11/2012 - 20:31 ¶OP here, Got mine today in a brown cardboard box, Connected to my BlackBerry in under 1 min. as it went to pairing mode as soon as I turned it on.
Tested in Car, superior sound quality. Havent tried all voice commands, but not very keen on them either,The unit is definitively second hand, as it has buff mark on the front.
I agree that the ""not new" was kind of hidden, but satisfied with the over all deal. Won't get this price for a new S4, local or shipped from oversees.
+1 votesunnysydney on 12/11/2012 - 21:10 ¶Anyone intrested in the full manual, can download from here

bradtheresa on 20/11/2012 - 21:31 ¶Ours arrived today in a brown padded bag - no packaging. After locating a full set of instructions from the net, we had our two mobiles setup on both units ( we purchased 2) in no time at all.
Quality of calls are great, and seems easy enough to operate.
