still available now as of now for delivery

  • Very good price for a decent pair of closed back.

    • +8

They aren't so great compared to new headphones. The design is very old now and it's kinda plasticy and not very powerful, very muddy and flat. For $90 I'd probably save up more and get something else, in wireless. And not the M50XBT.

      • +2

You are right on the sound quality. That's why it hasn't been the most recommended entry level audiophile headphones. I have 6XX myself so there's a lot not to like the m50x. That's why I wouldn't call it great but decent. For $90 there's no equivalent closed back with the same level of quality. If I'm going for the sound quality alone, the chifi IEM under $90 will be much better than this.

If I were to buy my first real headphones, I would opt for the recent open back deals on Philips X2 and 58X. But they are at least $40 more.

        • I used to have open back headphones, I think seinhouser or AT. It was purple. Sounded great. Gave them to my mom and she sat on them :(

But really wireless is important to me today. I'm so over having headphone cable snag on stuff. It means though that you can't use an external amp with it, so you have to pay even more for a quality DAC and amp built in. But honestly I'm kind of over external headphone amps too. Clutter.

          • @AustriaBargain: Yes, I went through the same internal conflict of ditching the wired IEM for the bluetooth when I'm out and about.

But at home I would still listen the music on the studio monitors. My 6XX just don't have the sound stage, imaging and resolution for me. I think it's the same for most headphones. They just have different use cases.

          • @AustriaBargain:

so you have to pay even more for a quality DAC and amp built in

Well, for some rather optimistic definition of the word "quality" at least.

            • @rumblytangara: Don't think anything wireless benefits much from DAC or amp.

              • @georgiechan: Sigh. All wireless headphones have built in DACs and amps.

Which is what AustriaBargain was talking about.

                • @rumblytangara: Depends on which wireless headphones you are talking about. There is a very popular bluetooth adapter with amp to turn this m50x into wireless. It just won't improve the sound quality much regardless of how good its dac and amp are. Usually the driver is the most important factor determining the wireless sound quality.

                  • @georgiechan: We are going around in circles here.

                    • @rumblytangara: Alright, let me put it in another way. This is not something worthy of an argument.

DAC and amp have matured to a point that they don't usually matter, whether it's built in or external. It's especially true for wireless because they are much easier to drive than the high impedance wired headphones. The driver is a more important factor for wireless sound quality, not DAC or amp, whether they are built in or external.

            • @rumblytangara: Potentially really good quality, if the DAC and amp built into wireless headphones can be chosen carefully for those exact headphones.

              • @AustriaBargain: What have you tried that has had an excellent combination of electronics and matched drivers?

I've yet to hear any seriously impressive wireless BT combo. All I've heard is the usual Sony/Bose ANC stuff, i.e audibly terrible.

Something tells me that anything that can be crammed into a the earcup of a headphone with space left over for battery packs is likely to have certain compromises.

I use wireless stuff too, it's great for convenience. I just acknowledge that there are massive quality compromises.

      • I would've agreed with you at base price, but at $90 I don't think there's any serious competitors that match the audio taste + performance, and are portable in both powering and physical sense.

        • Add in another $40 for replacement ear cup things and for the head strap, because the fake leather inevitably peels away after a few years, or less than a year if it gets sunlight.

    • +1

Same. Got the 1/2 price ATV4K for Zwift too. Wonder if it will actually happen.

      • Just sent them an enquiry email. Let's see if I'll get the headphone or not.

        • The items are still in my bag, so looks like their site screwed up. Will charge back through PayPal I guess.

      • that's a very old model(from 2018, or maybe 2019).
The latest model, with the much better remote is $219 full price.

      • +1

        • yeah I have been trying to refresh my PayPal page that kept failing and just go charged. Here is to hoping I get one and only 1 and not like 20 hahaha (nervous laughter)

Feels like their server is a homelab at someone's laundry room running over a micro PC lol.

            • +1

@FR3D99: Well I am at the checkout stage and paying with credit card, got timed out and I refreshed, twice, and it took 2 charges off my CC, but now logged into my account, it says it went through, hopefully the 2nd charges will get dropped out.

  • That website was a navigational nightmare and the reviews are terrible. Still chanced it on a cheap powerbank for the kiddo.

Edit: Well, maybe. Site timed out as I checked out. Credit card charged. No confirmation email. Brilliant.

  • Its over before it began …..

This is like the Michael Jackson shopping spree but on a micro scale

        • Lol, you really bought shin guard stays? 😂

          • @Skinnerr: Haha yeah. My boy is little, playing soccer for the first time, didn't know that it's really unnecessary when I tried it out last week.

  • I saw the crazy price on ATH-M50x earlier today when I was googling replacement cable for my ATH-M50xBT2. I assumed it was fake. Now I regret not clicking and purchasing them

    • +8

To your merit 9/10 times it would have been fake

  • +3

As stated above, i checked out who owns the business….
It is owned by Harvey Norman.

    • +5

he also owns barbary qukes cucumbers , truss tomatoe farms lots of stuff, if it’s fresh produce chances are your tongue has tasted something of harvey ….

      • Serious!? Bloody hell, didn't know that! Grub has his hands in everything!
I used to shop HN often, supporting the local workers. After the government handout he got to pay his workers but didn't and didn't give the money back, he lost me.
Now i'll check more often what he owns. Thankyou garage sale 😊

    OzBargain'd :O

  • Paid with CC - ended up with a gateway timeout - however money deducted from account.
    Anyone with same issue?

    • Yeah, but I paid with paypal.
I made an account period to purchasing and I got an order number. No email confirmation though (other than PayPal)

      • I also created an account but at checkout, my account creation went through with an order number attached even though I timed out and payment went through so it should be fine. When I click on the order it shows the order details.

        • +1

yeah i messed up by not making an account.

          • @kakarot123: I actually thought I pressed checkout as guest then it forced me to create a password so maybe for the best in the end. It didn't make you create a password in the form with your delivery address?

    • Yeah same issue I guess we'll see

    • +1

Same here, site gave up on life after checkout, money deducted though.

    • +1

Same here, but the items are still in my cart? I wonder what's going on…

  • +1

Please go to bed and try in the morning.

    • +6

Meanwhile, Eeples stays up all night and clears out the site 😄

    • I’m in an endless loop between the cart and checkout.

I will take my own advice.

  • site is DEADDDDDDDDDDDD

  • +3

Seems AT headphones have sold out, even though the product page says in stock. Getting the following on checkout

    • The requested quantity for "Audio Technica Headphones Prem Studio w/3 Cables Black" is not available.
    • -1

Yup after spending 2 hours on this. That's the error I keep getting now. Saying that with how much it's getting ozbargained I wonder how many orders they can cater for especially since it does seem to have negative reviews.

  • +1

    sold out

  • I got to the checkout with the headphones and it said "The requested quantity for "Audio Technica Headphones Prem Studio w/3 Cables Black" is not available."

Still says in-stock on the main page, tho. So good luck to anyone still trying.
