      whos DORA?

      • +3

        She's an Explorer

    • And why is OP asking us?

we are not the retailer nor do we control stock numbers.
Specials are there to clear overstocked or slow moving lines.

Id say OP has just missed the opportunity.
      But yeah
      $450 for a backpack?
      You gotta wonder

      • im asking as to in australia we are limited to some good quality bags that overseas get.
i know you dont control stock numbers but whats this group, a bargain page?
havent missed any oppurtunity just looking around and if i dont find anything up to spec ill buy it for full price its not a concern, its magic internet money i use anyway. have a look at the pacsafe range they are not cheap.
        quality over quantity here anyday

"but whats this group, a bargain page"

Sorry but this back pack doesnt qualify as a "bargain" to anyone here.
You'd be the only one considering this.

Would be interesting to find out what value you see in this back pack.
Just so we all know, if you dont mind.

          • @HeWhoKnows: You would be surprised with people only after quality items at bargain prices.
For sure you can by a used bag for almost nothing but that’s beside the point.
            Eg
You could buy 1 bag ever year for $50 or invest in a quality item for much more and have it last for years
It has everything I’m after in the bag if you take a look at the specs

            • @rocksy85: I you plan to travel regularly with the backpack I see your point.

Most only buy "travel bags" for a single trip or two.

@HeWhoKnows: yer its for multiple trips per year, i get where your coming from now. :)

Something like this is alot cheaper, unless that bag has some feature you can't get for $300 https://www.decathlon.com.au/p/backpack-travel-500-organizer…

    • thats not bad at all, i wonder if they have shops near me to check it out thx

    • thanks the waist support for these isnt there which is one of my main focuses. thx tho

  • thanks for some alternate opinions, some of the main reasons im leaning towards the fcs bag as it it quite water resistant, it has a waterproof bag in it which is great also not been 100% of course without a cover tho, but would do quite decent in downpours in tropical regions overseas. i like the locking capabilities as i can lock it up and strap it to something and has pacsafe guarding in it. it has a rfid section to help limit card readings, i know it only stops the honest thief. one of the main reasons i like it was due to the waist straps which are very supportive and doesn't cut into you.
regarding the price, ive had a fcs bag years ago and it was one of the best quality bags out there until something happened to it, dont remember now tho. but i should have stuck to the brand imo. needs to have a laptop compartment also
happy to see what else is out there tho.
i know packsafe have a similar bag also https://int.pacsafe.com/collections/carry-on-backpacks/produ…
i forget now but i believe the fcs bag was a little better imo maybe it was the waterproof bag it comes with also

I mean, you do you if it's going to make you happy, but $450 for a travel bag seems excessive.

quite water resistant, it has a waterproof bag in it which is great also not been 100% of course without a cover tho, but would do quite decent in downpours in tropical regions overseas.

I could understand needing a daypack to be pretty waterproof, but how much do you expect to be exposed to the elements while carrying this thing around? It's for luggage, you'll be carrying it from plane to transport to your accommodation.

i like the locking capabilities as i can lock it up and strap it to something and has pacsafe guarding in it.

Nice to have but won't stop a determined thief. I generally wouldnt be leaving a bag lying around locked to something or not. If you're staying in shared accommodation, use lockers. If there's no lockers, back to the point about a determined thief.

it has a rfid section to help limit card readings

Concerns of theft by RFID seems overblown IMO. I wouldn't generally be keeping cards in luggage anyway, and nothing a cheap sleeve can't protect against.

due to the waist straps which are very supportive and doesn't cut into you.

This is a really good thing to look for, but it's not a unique feature to that bag

it was one of the best quality bags out there

You'd hope so for the price

needs to have a laptop compartment also

This is basically standard on every backpack worth more than $20 these days

Given your expectations to need to secure it, im assuming you're backpacking and using share accommodation… My carry-on setup, even in my "backpacking" days, is a 40L rolling duffel from Strandbags (+ a compactible day bag), a lock on the zippers to prevent the laziest of opportunistic thiefs, and you'll be sweet. Get it on special and you've just freed up $400 to add more experiences to your trip.

      • yes i agree $450 is quite a bit for a travel bag no disagreements there
i have a day pack also, but i find a lot of times i'm in transit for 6+ hours or days and im constantly on the go there for its not going to be used just to take to the accomodation.
100% if somethings locked up, thieves take a higher interest to that item
i actually just bought the s2s rfid 4 cc holder thats super tiny
there are different levels of waist straps some are more comfy and take the full weight on your hips, where some don't offer much support or comfy padding

i do a lot of traveling for work and for leisure and depending on the time i cant check in. i do hotels + shared accomodation just depending where im going. i do have a main travel bag, but im looking at downgrading just to this instead of having a big back and on my back and my backpack on my front.

still looking around and getting some great other brands and ideas off here thx

  • Have a look at the Cotopaxi range eg the Allpa. Still high end but a little cheaper (get 10% off from the website)

    • not bad ill check it out thanks

Tortuga, nomatic (hard to find in Australia) and Osprey ( cheaper) also do good packs. If security is a big concern, look at the Pacsafe line

        • thanks, what sparked my interest is pacsafe and FCS have partnered to make a bag, aka the one im looking at

    Depends which airline. Ask them.

I'd take a look at the Osprey Farpoint 40 - took it around with me everywhere as my carryon on a recent trip to Japan and as my daypack (as I cart around a lot of stuff/shopping) and it was fantastic for comfort. I picked up a Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil cover for rain (the bag did a good job of handling light rain by itself but got damp with heavy rain/snow). Total cost was just over $300 including the cover. Add in a couple of padlocks to keep things protected and a few carabiners to attach bits (i.e. umbrella's etc) and you're covered for pretty much everything.

    • thanks, this was well and truely up there on the list, just need to decide which way to go about it thx for the review. i just did japan and my 32l bag was a touch small so i had a main bag also
