  • I do not understand how this works. Do I download the free trial, install, and activate the full version with the universal key? Or is there a separate full version download?

Does the universal key expire on 11/11/2012? Must I install and activate before this date?

Where is the reference to this 3-day deal on iCare's website?

  • It's definitely worth grabbing so, so you've got it for when the need arises.

The thing with these 'recovery' applications, is that they don't always work. So you can find yourself spending $50+ on a tool, just to discover that it won't solve your particular problem.

You might not think you need it, but it's hard to argue with 'free'.

I just downloaded and installed the version that's on the website using the key that's listed above..

It looks like the program just checks for a valid key.. as in, I copy/pasted the key into the register window, and it activated instantly. It didn't need any account created etc, and I'd be more than confident that it didn't even phone home to validate the supplied key. Therefore, it's probably an unlimited install/use key without any restrictions other than if a newer updated version comes along.

As pointed out above, you can't argue with free and some recovery apps generate better or worse results than others. It's another tool in the arsenal and might actually save your bacon at some point.

    • Program downloaded, Internet disconnected and key pasted into registration box.

Internet failure, please check your net setting or try again.

Looks like you need to complete the registration before the universal key expires on 11/11/2012. I don't need this program now but I have to install it. Time-limited registration is so annoying.

      • well there you go.. damn :(

Just as useless as those GiveawayOfTheDay trial apps..

      • so say you formatted your pc later and needed to reinstall the program.. the key will no longer work?

        • That was what my first comment was about. How else can iCare limit this offer to 3 days only?

Since we cannot see into the future, you will have to wait until after 11/11/2012 to find out. Why don't you try that and report back?

download and then click register once installed, enter the code and its activated! good freebie.

It seems a lot of these recovery programs are all similar paid or free.

Personally I found the better ones are the freeware TestDisk & PhotoRec from CG Security

This is free now, isn't it… so why even compare?

      • +1

Huh. Normally SW comparison is a good thing?!

Plus this one you need to have installed now or by tomorrow latest as alvian has already confirmed it phones home, whereas the freeware ones you can just install when you need it.

    • Used PhotoRec and iCare to recover around 300gb of files.
PhotoRec recovered 282gb and iCare recovered 182gb.
iCare seemed to hang around halfway of recovering my drive, which caused me to cancel the recovery.
PhotoRec doesn't have a nice UI like iCare does, however, PhotoRec seems more reliable.

  • When running the program I get the message : "This file does not have a valid digital signature……".

    Run anyway?

    • Check your download against mine. Calculate its CRC32 value.

      icaredrp.exe 4A63EC63

  • Thanks, still getting my head around CRC32. I downloaded the program from the same place as you, so they are both either good or both dodgy.

    • Simply putting the downloaded program into a compressed archive (e.g. ZIP or RAR) will calculate its CRC32 value.

My program looked good, so if our CRC32 values are the same, then you know your download was not corrupted or infected.

    • Hash Tab is another good way you can check CRC32/MD5 etc. Adds an option in the right click properties of a file.
