+11 votessoakwashrinsespin on 28/12/2012 - 16:14 ¶The rep "found" this on their own website, I think. ;)
Chris McMahon on 28/12/2012 - 16:18 ¶Not a bad price for a PLL FM radio with voice recording. Its storage is woefully small, but you can't expect miracles for the $7 delivered price.
+10 votessoakwashrinsespin on 28/12/2012 - 16:35 ¶You know this is a pretty good price when a rep from another store (that sells audio equipment) buys two. :P
+1 votescottchamings on 28/12/2012 - 16:45 ¶Site is struggling, suffering from ozbargainning I guess…. 8-)
Site is erroring out…
+3 votessoakwashrinsespin on 28/12/2012 - 17:13 ¶Check their deal history; they're a pretty long-standing store on OzBargain with some notable bargains in the past involving Eneloop batteries. :)
+27 votesjunglejumble on 28/12/2012 - 17:13 ¶Everyone - please chill out!!! You guys are crashing our site. We have 12,000 of these units in stock, so there's plenty to go around.
Im afraid increasing our server memory at this time is not possible - so if you get any error messages, please try again later.
+1 votegreenpossum on 28/12/2012 - 17:18 ¶Ah that explains it. Maybe you should mention this by editing the blurb above using bold text or people won't see this.

Just got a server error on the last step of checking out after paying via Paypal. I got the Paypal confirmation that payment was made, but upon returning to the home page there's still one item in my cart. Is there any way to check if the order was made successfully?
EDIT: nevermind, managed to login to my account after a few times and it showed there.
+9 votesjunglejumble on 28/12/2012 - 17:36 ¶The site is getting smashed at the moment. You'll just have to wait. Again there are 12,000 in stock so there should be plenty to go around. If you get 403 Forbidden errors, please try again later.
Sorry for the stuff around, the OzB factor can be difficult to predict.

+1 voteThe Olin website are claiming a RRP of $180.00 for this!

Here's the link to the specs on this bad boy.

+1 votejunglejumble on 28/12/2012 - 18:49 ¶Anyone recognise this?
http://sieuthimayvanphong.com/images/catalog/sony%20p720.jpgOur Olin rep did say they used the same OEM as Sony for these units - so we thought we'd check.
Not sure if it's a real model, can find plenty of them in Vietnamese retailers. The "sony" model is ICD P720. More memory - but otherwise exactly the same.

wolfenator87 on 28/12/2012 - 19:25 ¶I'm also interested in experimenting with some live music recording. Those loud pub rock gigs are always heaps distorted so I might have to sit a fair distance away from the drums and amps.

the same seller is selling these on ebay for $21.90 delivered. Better get in quick lol

donkeykong on 18/01/2013 - 10:45 ¶I believe you but wondering which company is throwing these out the door and why?

If I had to guess, I'd say the manufacturer OLIN is losing out. If you look at their website, they list only 2 voice recorders (512MB model @ $180 RRP and 1GB @ $250 RRP). These models probably retailed at those prices when they first came out (ie. many years ago). The big selling feature of the 1GB model (apart from double the storage) is that it's bundled with Dragon Naturally Speaking software version 8 which only supports Windows 2000/XP.
Although a bargain at $7 & $14 respectively, both OLIN recorders are superseded models and are therefore being cleared out as end of line products (there are no replacement models on the OLIN website). In comparison, the Sony website has consumer voice recorders (with 2GB minimum) listed from $59 to $169, and professional models from $349 to $629.

So how does it compare to a phone considering the microphone is very small?
It only encodes in 128kbps mp3.Anyway, playback on the speaker and earphones will probably be poor as it states 20Hz - 20KHz in the manual, last page.
Someone above mentioned that playback quality on their olin mp3 player was poor.
Anyway, there is most likely no loss being made, this is probably just obsolete stock being dumped.
+5 votesJdiggitywap on 28/12/2012 - 21:22 ¶Found the same unit for $2 with pickup available in NSW and shipping is $8.95 so current deal is cheaper depending on the number of units you are after: http://crazystu.com.au/Olin_OVR_100_512MB_Pro_Digital_Voice_...
There is also a 1GB model (OVR101) with BONUS ear mic for phone recording as well as Dragon Naturally Speaking Software for $9.90 (+ shipping $8.95):

mrhorseham on 28/12/2012 - 21:38 ¶Nice find, the 512mb model only becomes cheaper when ordering 4 or more.
Edit: Considering getting the 1GB from there for the Dragon speech to text, or old version so not worth it?

From the OLIN website…
"OVR 101 comes bundled with SpeechWord. SpeechWord consists of the PowerTrans v1.0 and Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 Preferred (DNS 8) by Nuance software. These packages are rated for Microsoft Windows 2000/XP."
http://www.westwell.com.au/resources/documents/OVR101-001.pd...
According to Nuance, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.1 (or above) is required for Windows 7…
http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5775DNS 12 is the latest version and is required for Windows 8.

+1 voteKing Tightarse on 28/12/2012 - 22:59 ¶Well noticed, K
Interesting… So can we have them for $2 plus postage?
mrhorseham on 28/12/2012 - 23:06 ¶Quite the detective, k. Didn't you solve another mystery here on ozbargain awhile back? or was that someone else, i forget what it was now.

Hi Rep, I paid via paypal, after confirm the payment and click place order, it said on your website " Unable to place the order." I press the again and it said "PayPal gateway has rejected request. A successful transaction has already been completed for this token (#10415: Transaction refused because of an invalid argument. See additional error messages for details)."
I received the receipt from paypal, but none from junglejumble….??
greenpossum on 28/12/2012 - 21:34 ¶Maybe login to your account and see if it's in your list of things already purchased. Also check your spam folder?
MagicTsukai on 28/12/2012 - 21:30 ¶512mb seems pitiful,
but if it the recording can really last from 9 to 250 hours
then i might get one~!
+3 votesgreenpossum on 28/12/2012 - 21:38 ¶I carry MP3s to play in the car on a USB stick. 512MB is about 8 hours of high quality VBR encoded stereo music. For lower quality voice recording that could be many more hours. So the estimate is correct.
junglejumble on 29/12/2012 - 00:37 ¶Mic in ear, phone (any phone) to same ear - audio is passed through the mic and into your ear. Your voice is also passed to Mic - recording is surprisingly clear. Very impressive.
MagicTsukai on 28/12/2012 - 22:24 ¶im gonna order another as a gift for my friend who likes playing piano and singing
hope the quality is good x[

junglejumble on 29/12/2012 - 09:54 ¶If you have sent private messages to me, I have responded. Sorry about the inconvenience, our system was unreliable at best yesterday. All is good now as the system load has reduced.
