expired Event Cinemas $25 Gold Class Tickets (+$3.25 Booking Fee) Is Back
This was posted 4 months 11 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Looks like this code is working again.
It did go down after the 'tixeachitem' debacle.
Tested and working at NSW cinemas as well as Marion (reported not working here last time: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87704#comment-1151386 ).
Works fine for all sessions.
Some 3D sessions come up as $28 (due to 3D surcharge I'm presuming), but strangely some don't (like https://www.eventcinemas.com.au/tickets/order/step2?sessioni... ).
Enjoy :)

Mattylicious on 09/01/2013 - 11:15 ¶No. When I tried it, there's a $3.25 booking fee for all Gold Class tickets. So if you bought the standard $28 ticket, you'll be paying $28 (ticket) + $3.25 (booking fee) = $31.25 (total).
+3 votesMattylicious on 09/01/2013 - 10:58 ¶I checked as well and the standard $28 only applies to movies that are screened in the morning on weekdays(or before 5PM as OP mentioned). However if you select a movie at night or a weekend (eg. Jack Reacher at 9:40PM), you'll see it priced at $39.50.
Also, after you enter in the promo code, under the 'Please select your ticket quantities', you'll see a new option called "Promo GC $25" where you enter the amount of tickets you want for $25.
Lastly, thanks OP - bought 2 tickets for the Hobbit.

I just educated myself too…
What is Gold Class?

Gold Class is the ultimate world of cinema luxury.
As you enter into the exclusive Gold Class lounge you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff welcoming you to this ultimate experience. The Gold Class theatre is an intimate setting that seats no more than 30-54 people where guests can relax in the comfort of plush reclining chairs. A delicious new food & beverage menu provides a fantastic selection to add to your experience and one of our waiters will bring this into to you while you enjoy the movie - just make sure you keep room to enjoy one of our signature sundaes!
Sessions in Gold Class sell out really quickly so we recommend you purchase your tickets online to guarantee yourself a seat. In just a couple of easy steps, you'll have a fantastic experience all booked and ready to go.

+1 voteI've been once. Basically it's a nicer area to sit down when waiting to go in. When you're inside, the chairs are basically lazyboys, and you can recline the chair right back. Theres a bench in between the chairs for wine/drinks etc. If you pay extra, you can order food/popcorn/drinks to come in at any time (i.e. halfway through the movie)
Not worth it imo, fun maybe once for the experience. But i'm not sure a romantic night out would be at hoyts.
(i generally go to the movies when it's quiet, not packed. So space generally isn't an issue in the standard cinemas)
+3 votesI've been a few times, it's nothing too great but the boyfriend enjoys it, it's one of the very few times I will actually agree to see a movie and I love the food. Yes, the food is insanely overpriced, as are the desserts (you're looking at about $18 for churros and $23 for a banana split) but it still makes for a great night out. I've been to the Reading Cinemas version of Gold Class, 'Gold Lounge' or something along those lines, and I found it not to be as enjoyable as Gold Class. Although you do get popcorn and a drink included in the price, you're sitting in the same cinema as regular patrons, just in an area far off at the back and the food is extremely average - Gold Class stuff is a little more fancy, hence the inflated price.
Each to their own though, it's an experience to try at least once :)

Also been a few times.
Nice lobby with bar, big recliner chairs, actually quite tasty (but pricey) food.
I wouldn't recommend if you aren't going to have food or a drink during the movie - that's what makes it special IMO.
I also wouldn't recommend paying full price for a ticket; the food will hurt you enough (thanks Amex Connect!)
aussieaubs on 11/01/2013 - 08:39 ¶yes definitely - if you live in victoria DO NOT BUY THIS!
I have an $80 one of this and there is no GC cinemas in melbourne covered by Event.
+4 votesI know it's been mentioned before…. but how can they possibly justify…
Please note a booking fee is charged per ticket booked online. $1.10 per standard or Vmax ticket and $3.25 per Gold Class ticket.
a. I'm doing the work of booking the tickets, no extra work for staff whatsoever, why am I charged a fee?
b. The booking process is the same for GC as standard…. why is the fee more than double?
crazym0nkey on 09/01/2013 - 09:24 ¶not saying its right, but it seems like they are trying to re-coup merchant fees which are prob being charged to them for using online payment. (Like when I receive payments from Paypal for ebay items).
Its good to try it once or twice (gold class), the better chairs, less people in cinema (only fits like ~20)
Most likely wont have any under 18s.
definitely no smelly feet right behind you,
haven't encountered any noisy (teenage/young adults) groups, as the chairs are setup in pairs.
Definitely a money grab. Booking fees are ridiculous! They do it because they can get away with it.
They charge a booking fee of $1.10 for each standard ticket you purchase online. In addition, the booking fees for Gold Class tickets are triple the price.
I think if they were in any other industry, they wouldn't be able to get away with it.
ilikebargains on 09/01/2013 - 09:28 ¶gold class is basically just a more intimate environment than your average cinema as mentioned by a few already. Big comfy recliners (usually), smaller but well spaced out cinema, decent menu (at cinematic prices), bar usually. It's just a far more relaxed way of going to the movies, and you pay for it.
ilikebargains on 09/01/2013 - 09:30 ¶you might want to add that many states don't have gold class available..
ilikebargains on 09/01/2013 - 10:55 ¶well i did say it for a reason after researching it..
look at the list on the far right. ACT, NT, TAS and VIC have no gold class. Tas has no cinemas at all.
-3 votesI thought it was $25 each on Tuesdays?
Edit: and it is….I'm really not seeing how this is a bargain. Just go on Tuesdays…I believe you also avoid the booking fee if you pay at the counter.
https://www.eventcinemas.com.au/tickets/order/step2?sessioni...
This one is Marion for The Hobbit.
Mattylicious on 09/01/2013 - 11:48 ¶It's hard for those who work during the day to make the 12:30PM session on a Tuesday. I guess the bargain is for those who are only free to go to the cinema at night/weekends where ticket prices are $39.50.
rorymeister on 09/01/2013 - 10:46 ¶Melbs misses out? :(
It's Summer, shouldn't the Magnum Gold Class Wrapper thinggy be back?!

Its not just the seats
my borther is a projectionist for gold class in the city.
Projecters are 4k ready or 8k(in case of cinema 2 in paramtta)
so you can get a crisper image as most of the porjectors in every other event screen is a piece of junkand the speakers in few of the gold class cinemas now have multichannel speaker setup comapred to 4 channel in most rooms
its worth it for something big ie avengers, bond, upcoming star trek but for average film nah not worth it for standard.
i just moved out regional and we got a gold class here and actualy really good 19 bucks and u get recliners digital 4k huge screen and actual decent home cocked food.
AND AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 3 DOLLARS FOR A BEER!!!!!
+1 voteannoynimous on 09/01/2013 - 12:39 ¶home cocked food, goddamn I can't imagine what they put in there…
peterpeterpumpkin on 09/01/2013 - 10:54 ¶Do people wear suits to these things?
For me, Gold Class would greet the pizza delivery guy and present it to me at a desired time or when it arrives. During the previews a masseuse will give me a massage. And while they're at it, massage me during the credits as well.

If anything about Gold Class actually worked it would be a bargain. I dont think I have ever been in a Gold Class session without some type of issue or mistake.
1st time we went nothing that we ordered came out at all. I didnt want to miss my movie so we went hungry and got a refund at the end
95% of the coffee comes out cold
Ice cream served melted
Have no idea why they ask when you want your food and drinks. Never even remotely close to the time you ask.
$2 a ticket would be a bargain because thats all their worth!

95% of the coffee comes out cold
how do you tell if 5% of a coffee is hotIce cream served melted
Does this mean it was 95% warm and 5% cold ice cream? Maybe you ordered a milkshakeHave no idea why they ask when you want your food and drinks. Never even remotely close to the time you ask.
How can you tell when a movie is 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 of the way through?$2 a ticket would be a bargain because thats all their worth!
Yes, a $2 ticket would be a bargain???

It used to be worth it when it first started and you got all u can eat popcorn and soft drinks.
I remember going for Gold on the popcorn before a few movies. I could be wrong, but I think there was also a small lollie selection to have too. The only extras to pay for we're meals or alcohol
robbyjones on 09/01/2013 - 20:35 ¶I agree that the food is a giant rip off, plus you can't see what you are eating. When hubby and I go we head over to the regular cinema to buy our popcorn, frozen coke and choc tops there and take them back to GC, they've never had an issue with it. As for whether it is worth it I think so, but that's me. My son is 6'3"and he goes so he can stretch out and not feel like a giant in a mini. The booking fee is ridiculous, wonder if I lobbed up at the GC counter and said use GOLDCLASS25 in the promo code please they would honour it, ha ha!

So this is a saving of $3, correct?
