    • Scotty!!! Yeaayyy!!!

  • +2

scotty doesn't know, scotty doesn't know, so don't tell scotty!

  • Thinking about E530 or S430. Is the S430 worth it? Almost $300 more, but better specs and lighter.

    • I've got a S430 — the $899 model with i7 (actually my wife has it, which beats my old T410). At 1.8kg it's actually quite light for a 14inch. 120GB SSD and there's an option to swap out the optical drive with a hard drive. Also Thunderbolt connector…

However it only has GT620m vs. E530's GT635m. Neither are fast anyway.

      • +2

Thanks mate. Might wait for bigger discounts. 5-10% (off the default discounted rates) is a bit low.

      • the 635M is much much better than the 620M for gaming

      • Damn. I was looking at 30% off… But I almost got it Scott free!

  • Does anyone know if any of these models comes with a pressure-sensitive touch screen on which a stylus can be used?

    • No reply from any techno geek.
Guest I'll wait to have a look at Microsoft Surface Pro.

    • Well I'll give it a try. Basically 3 models in the current ThinkPad line up have touch screen:

      • ThinkPad Twist
      • ThinkPad X230T
      • ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch

To be comparable to Surface Pro, I think Twist would be the closest one. Works with capacitive stylus.

      • Thanks Scotty. I had a look at the 3 models and only the X230T is specifically stated to have a "Multitouch panel for pen and finger input", the other two just said 5-point multi-touch.
The X230T is almost twice the price of the X230. Do you know whether its touch screen could be used as a sort of graphics tablet when it's being hooked up to a larger display screen?

      • +1

actually, the TPT2 is the closet to the Surface Pro….

ALso, the X220t and X230t have 2 fingers touch, which is why X230t can not be certified for Windows 8 (which requires 5 finger touch at minimum).

The X220t and X230t doesn't do well as touch screen tablet (i.e. Cintiq), if you need to accurate graphical work, you are better off with Cintiq.

        • That's the type of info I'm after. Thanks. Why can't Lenovo make the full specs of their products more readily accessible? I see their tablet 2 is not due for release until April.
It'll be interesting to see how it compares with the Surface Pro. Cintiq was my first port of call but they are not the all-in-one solution I'm looking for.

EDIT: a good article on forthcoming W8 tablets:

  • +1

+1 for the title and deal

  • The coupon code "T530JANSPECIALS" gives you more discount

    • Only on the T530 (as the name suggests ;-))

  • +1

Does anyone know if you still get cashback (Starthere) if you buy from the student store?

    • +2

      Bueller? Bueller?

  • Is it easy to import from Lenovo USA?

    • you can import laptops using Freight Forwarders, but you also have to contend with duties and GST for anything over $1000 AUD.

  • Now I need a msata SSD…

  • +1

The last Lenovo deal posted was by Scotty and it got 5 +'s. Now we make jokes about him & get 79 +'s!!

    • +1

Yeah I feel so discriminated, as these two are effectively the same deal (similar discount).

      • Invoking your name is popular enough to get +80 votes. Lenovo should be sponsoring you.

  • I put this off due to the title (ie. expires 5th Feb) and I went to the Lenovo site this morning to find out the deal had expired.

    • +1

Truly sorry about that. The original site I got this off said til 5th feb but then yday I realised it was only til the 3rd, changed date on the back end of the deal but forgot I'd written it in the title too.

    • +1

No. Reliable source also told me that it's the 5th where the promo code will expire. I just remove the expiry of this deal and change back to 5 Feb. Lenovo only placed their coupons on their site until the 3rd, but the coupon will work until the 5th.

      • You are spot on! Deal is still active… (just applied it to my cart a moment ago)
