EggMaps HD with Google Maps and Street View (iPad App): 40 Free Promo Codes

290

EggMaps HD is an app to provide full-screen Google Maps on your iPad. Currently ranked #3 (at the time of writing) in the App Store (navigation - paid).

An updated version, v1.03, has just been released in the App Store. So I have some more promo codes (40 of them) to give away.

  1. (for karma): click the little green plus sign at the top of the deal.
  2. Check that you have an iPad. Not an iPhone, iPod or the family portrait from above the fireplace. This app is only for iPad; please don't waste promo codes.
  3. Using your iPad, follow this link: http://redeemco.de/g/eggmaps-hd_a4we/

To redeem the code (once you have one):

  1. Open the App Store app from your iPad
  2. Click on "Featured" (bottom left-hand corner)
  3. Scroll to the very bottom
  4. Click "Redeem" (in the center at the very bottom)
  5. Enter your code.
  6. (for karma) double-check that you've clicked that little green plus at the top of this deal!

What's New in this Version:
✔ iOS 5.0 support.
✔ You can now use your current location in directions search.
✔ You don't have to choose one of the suggested place names.
✔ The map won't "snap" to your current location as often (unless you have tracking on of course).
✔ It is now easier to clear a route.
✔ EggMaps HD has an awesome new icon.
✔ A prettier font in the directions panel.

    Thanks, just grabbed one!

    Thanks :)

    Thank you.

  • This promo code has already been used. :(

    • Hmm… that's not supposed to happen with this system. The whole point of using redeemco.de is to avoid this.

I guess they still have a few bugs (it is a service in "beta" after all, but still much better than just posting the codes here).

      Sorry.

    • I just added 4 more (which I was going to give to reviewers). Hopefully you'll get one of those. The sites says there's still a few left.

      • Too bad. I missed out.

        • Sorry about that. It's definitely a bug with redeemco.de. It tells me I've used "45 out of 44", with "-1 left to use".

I've reported the issue to them.

    Thanks OP

    • You're welcome. Don't forget the little green button!

  • No more code?

  • Just FYI, as a paid app I would be really pissed off (got it for free a while back so can't complain too much).

The app itself is great, the API limitations are -very- frustrating however. If the google limit has been reached, it will simply not search. No error message or anything, it just goes to look like it's searching but nothing.

This seems to happen quite a bit… Any news on this front?

    • Yours is the first report of this behaviour.

If Google refuses to perform a search for any reason, an error message "could not find location" (from search) or "could not route" (from directions search) should be displayed.

Google's Geocoding API has a daily allocation and rate limit which is applied per user session, regardless of how many users share a given IP address. It's unlikely you'll reach this in normal usage.

It's likely that your issue has nothing to do with API limits. If you could contact me with more details about the issue, I'll investigate. Some examples of searches would help greatly.

Have you installed the update? That's the first thing I'd try.

  • Hi

You need to update the version number for the new icon
else people with the old icon can't get the updated icon

    • Icons do not get versioned. The app is versioned. Sometimes iOS doesn't show the new icon until you restart your iPad.

      • Doesn't the new icon need to be downloaded again?

Only way I fix this was to uninstall and reinstall the app to get the new icon.

Else I think you need to add a new version number to the app, so when people check the app updates they can download the new version which has the new icon.

        • The app has a version number. That's why it appears in your updates list. It seems iOS caches the icon and doesn't update it correctly.

Some people get the new icon straight away, some don't. I didn't. A restart fixed it in my case. Uninstalling and reinstalling also works.

  • Compared to the Google Maps app (for iPhone), other than being optimised for iPad, is there anything this will do that the G.Maps app wont?

    • Other than being optimised for iPad, no extra features. EggMaps has a much simpler, more intuitive interface.

Being full-screen is a big deal.

Just sounds like they're capatalising on the fact that Google hasn't released an iPad version yet - can't imagine a big future in this app.

    • You're half-right. I'm capitalising, sure.

Many people have asked me to make an iPhone version of EggMaps, since they prefer it over the official app. Vive le différence.

    • Of course this app is just a temp, till google releases their official one
which would be better optimised and faster.

But until then, this is the best thing out there.

But you are right, that there is not much future for this app, once google releases theirs.

My guess is they are thoroughly testing the app right now, to avoid any apple maps embarrassments.

      • There are a lot of things google needs to do in the future, but that doesnt make all the current apps that provide that feature temp in nature by any means though.

My solution? I'm still on iOS 5 with old GMaps outta the OS and it works just fine…at least until google themselves comes up with an iPad version for iOS 6. Good effort to OP for coming up with an alternative but being a regular cheapskate myself, (hey! I'm on OzBargain, what'd a ya expect?) I don't think I'll fork out the 99c….sorry buddy.

I don't get all the hate this Dev gets for releasing an app that fills a market space currently vacant which has a major effect on a really popular function! And on top of that he is only charging bargain basement prices.

+1 even though I hate iOS.

    • Maybe I'm a bit thick but I'm not feeling any hate. Especially since your post (thanks).

Maybe I just have "selective hearing".
