412

Hi guys so this item is never in stock for long so grab one while you can!
It is 53 cents more expensive last time (they had some sort of a discount pop-up) so while this may break the deal for those hardcore ozbargainers, it might be okay for the less hardcore, minus a few tears.

EDIT: Apparently the pop up is still there if you wait. So final price is $24.73!

    • how did you get charged so low? Was there another pop up? I've been waiting for it but it wouldnt show up

      • Your Total $24.73

yep i just waited and got it as well :D

      • nah only one pop up, remember pop is in USD not AUD, so then paypal did its thing

      • If you accidentally closed the page, you'll need to clear hobbyking's cookies to make the popup offer show again.

      • The pop up discount occurs about a minute after the first load of the page.

If you open an account you will automatically get the discounted prices on everything.

I wont be trusting this business again

    • +4

Yep, frig these guys, they won't assist as I don't have an order ID.. cause I checked out with paypal. They won't check the paypal receipt so now I'm having to dispute it in Paypal, god knows how long this is going to take.

      Annoyed.

  • Sweet, mine just kicked the bucket yesterday. Thanks !
I did get the pop up, and got all excited thinking the final price was down to us$15.74, then realised it didn't include postage, lol…

weren't there people still waiting to get previous orders last time? have they received them?

    • it seems that if you order when they are on backorder some orders get "lost" for some people. if you cancel your order then order again when they are in stock afaik everyone gets there stuff from hobbyking.

that bein said, my previous several orders have all come through with no problems.

    • +1

A couple of times back mine took ages. It was in stock when I ordered, went to back order, then nothing. I had to prompt them myself when it came back in stock, five months later. It arrived within a week after that. Works well though

    • I got mine within a week last time…

  • Seems to be ozbargained on log on

  • How long do you need to wait for the discount?

EDIT: Oh, there it is. About a minute. I'm a little impatient it seems :P

  • +7

these are great at sitting on your shelf unopened :)

  • Ordered one got charged $24.73 USD. I thought the site says AUS warehouse and ship from AUS so it should be charging AUD, very confusing. Also, want to order LSD batteries but said not the same warehouse and can't be put on the same order.
    Anyone had similar experience?

    • +1

Yes, was charged US$24.73, and Paypal receipt says the same. Bonus! Even cheaper that AU$24.73!

      • I was charged AUD $25.15 by Paypal. Conversion rate was $0.9833

        • paypal screws you currency conversions.

    • Hobbyking has warehouses in several counties but they don't all stock the same items.
This deal is linked to the AUS warehouse so it's local stock (the warehouse is in Moruya)

It looks like the LSD batteries are only held in the Hong Kong international warehouse, so no, you can't add them to the same order since they come from different places.

It says near the top of each items page which warehouse you're looking at.

You pay in US$ because all transactions go through Hong Kong, no matter which warehouse you elect to buy from.

Items I've ordered locally have arrived within a day (to Sydney) and within a couple of weeks from Hong Kong.

Can't recommend these enough & I've commented each time the deal is posted. I bought four about a year ago which brought them down to under $20 each including postage. I sold two to friends for $20 and have been happily using the other two ever since. The tip is very pointy & sharp but useable as is however I had some spare tips from some old irons and they fit these cheapies perfectly so I now have my beautiful 15 year old Hakko 936 and these two beside it with different tips ready to tackle different jobs at the flick of a switch. Fast heatup and they seem to hold temp just as well as my Hakko so for the money they're a no-brainer.

    • I always wonder when I see this deal come up, given that the job of these is to just make a pointy tip hot enough to melt solder, what is the difference between this $15 soldering station and the ones that I see for about $300?

      • Yeah I agree, it does sound trivial but fast heatup, fast reaction to temp change and the ability to hold an even temp for long periods of time must be more difficult than we think. The $300 price tag is probably mostly R&D payback and to pay for labour in developed countries.

        • +1

i used to have an old weller digital station. push buttons to set the temp etc. even had memories for different tip types caus obviously the internal thermometer will read slightly differently depending on the tips you use. its ability to hold a temp no matter what you did with it was staggeringly great…. but seriously for backyard hacks like myself only doing basic PCB stuff at most with it it was a little wasted.

was it worth the $300 odd back then? damn right it was. nothing else was cheap like they are these days. would i spent $300 on one these days? nup. but they do have there place in the world.

  • I can confirm I haven't received mine from the order placed 30th Jan.

Emailing them now as I forgot - found the paypal receipt, they deffo took my cash!

    • +1

Yeah, they need prompting. I used their live chat when I last contacted them.

      • Heh yeah I've been on their chat since I saw this thread, 22mins now. They are struggling as I don't have an order ID, just a paypal receipt. I think something went wrong when ordering..

Might have to dispute it in paypal sigh.

Ordered one, and received the order ID over 3 separate emails (your order, payment approved, order confirmed). Guessing they've changed their system since?

        • Guessing they've changed their system since?

dosnt seem so, i just ordered

my hobbyking email with the subject

          Your order at HobbyKing, #2006xxxxxxx

and at the bottom of my paypal email receipt

          Invoice ID: 2006xxxxxxx

(obviously xxx'ed out my actual number myself)

        • +2

yea true about 3 emails. I am chatting to them now, and guy is saying there no order gone through even though gave him order number, I showed him the emails ! and now saying its gone through, dunno whats going on

        • can you make a Paypal claim or is it too late?

  • I ordered one last time and it arrived within the week.
it is still in the box as i normally use my weller soldering station for most soldering jobs.

  • Mine took 3 months to arrive. It did arrive but only after a lot of hassle. Contacted them via the online chat but they hung up when I dared to asked when I would be getting my goods. Good item, pity about the payment system lost my payment, lucky I could quote the Paypal receipt number) and the lack of assistance. Can I suggest you SO NOT pay direct but use Papal.

  • This is for soldering to repair or install electronics components. What sort of electrical equipment you use this on? I am trying to see if I should buy one.

    • +1

my current (and dying) ebay special ive had ~4 years ive used for anything from making and repairing PCB's etc to soldering thick wires in the car…. and everything in between. thats the beauty of these sort of stations they can pretty much do anything and for the price if you drop it and it breaks you just go out and buy another one.

  • Mine from last time this deal was available never worked. Led flashes then no heat.

  • They got over a 1000 in this shipment. should last a few days

  • thanks…ordered one…

  • If you stay idle on the website long enough, they actually offer you a discount, like $1 off but i know how cool you guys are.. heh

  • I ordered one last time on backorder, Am I going to get it?

    • no, probably not.

if you paid with paypal start a dispute (assuming that wasnt over 45 days ago) otherwise have your order # and contact hobbyking about it.

  • third time the charm… maybe

  • ah well I bought another one, maybe I will get both lol, luck of the draw with this mob.

  • Is this suitable (fine enough tip, not too hot) for SMD componemts?

    • +1

Tip is very fine & sharp and I've done very basic SMD work with mine (just a few resistors) and it seemed to cope well but I wouldn't want to use it for continual SMD work. Think of it as a good all-rounder.

  • Sweet

  • Ordered one last night and already have shipping confirmation from their NSW warehouse.

  • I don't understand.

Never bought from these guys before. What exactly is the pop-up? A pop-up window with a discount? How do you get that to happen?

    • +1

just open up the page and dont touch it for about a minute then down the bottom right hand side (for me anyway) pops up a little message saying you can have it at the cheaper price.

      • Thank you nosdan! Ordering now :D

  • LOL just as I thought, they are now shipping both my old order and the new one at the same time, was what I was hoping that it would remind them of the old one and it did :)

Both were from the popup :p

  • ordered mine last round, got an shipping confirmation today…so maybe they found a heap of old orders and sent them though when people started querying it…

  • ordered yesterday. got email shipped today

  • +2

I also ordered mine…in fact I had one backordered and paid for, but got so excited when I received the email notifying me that they'd received stock that I got online…and accidentally bought two! D'oh! Never mind, a bargain anyhow, and there's nothing wrong with having a spare, right?

  • +1

I got one of these during the last deal, it was delivered pretty quickly and works fine so far. The tip is a little too fine (unless you're doing surface mount stuff which I'm guessing most people aren't).

Does anyone know if there are any replacement tips available locally?

  • Got confirmation of shipping today.

    • Same

      • Delivery was faster than i was expecting. Ordered yesterday and received it today (probably due to the warehouse being in NSW).

LOL at the instructions … "Use only genuine replacement parts"!!

  • ordered on Monday, received today.

  • ordered a month or so ago, still hasnt arrived, shipped a couple of days ago :(

  • Ordered one on Monday night, got shipped on Tuesday, arrived today… Nice unit…..

  • Are they Located in Moruya NSW Australia? I got an option to pick-up at Moruya. I am heading down there this weekend.

    • Just googled it and they located at 38 Shelley Road Moruya NSW. I drive pass there all the time, never knew that the industry area have this king of shops…:)

      • +3

        Yes, that's the place.
Just stay focused on the iron when you're in there.
Try not to look at all the other toys or you'll go broke.

  • Received mine today. Nice and quick!

  • Arrived yesterday. Speedy delivery, now to give it a test run…

  • arrived on friday as well:)

  • Received both the old order and this one today :) amazing.

  • Received mine yesterday
