Most of these work by routing all your internet traffic through their servers. So they can see everything you do.

No they don't. Put your tin foil hat away, Mulder. They use your carrier's API to access your data balance.

      • +1

Yes many of these do this. No tin foil hat.

I doubt that this ap has implemented every companies API.

    • Seriously. For real bro?

  • I heard about that but not sure.

Just make sure you dont use the ones that ask you to download a profile to make it work.

    For example Onavo

There are three ways tracking can work.
    1. Probabilistic type methods
    2. Routing your traffic through a counter on a computer somewhere on the internet
    3. Having code on the phone that acts as a proxy to track usage

    1. is inaccurate and mostly worthless
    2. allows someone to track what your doing
    3. Apple doesn't allow/provide this so you have to jailbreak it.
    • doesn't onavo still listed in itunes? why apple doesn't act?

  • theres a pro version?

    • Which retails for $0.99…. the same price as this 'original pricing'.

Hmmmm…. I'm suspecting this app aint normally $1 after all ;).

  • Why wouldn't you just use the official app for your phone provider? Telstra data widget is pretty good

    • None for TPG mobile.

Android has this built into the OS, doesn't IOS have the same thing ?

    • iOS has it too. Setting>>general>>usage>>mobile usage.

Just remember to reset at the beginning of each data cycle (I put it in my reminder).

I think it tracks data usage even when the iPhone is used as hot spot.

      • Android does it much better it can regulate the usage (eg cut it off).
The IOS devices just give you the amount after the fact. No features at all.
Its rubbish in comparison to what android can do

(btw I'm an IOS user so im not bashing apple for fun)

  • my s3 does it
