@BargainsGrabber: Of course i saw it. It does not contain sufficient details for me to go to the store to claim it. For example there is no validity date specified. Unclaimable by the general public unless you received the targeted email.

Maybe in future they may publish the deal for the general public on their website.

@S2: But you can't make it swim

  • +6

    Anyone managed to do this?

I don’t trust HN to execute the exchange properly.

    • +10

They will if you include the purchase of a monster HDMI cable in the transaction

      • +13

"Ok so that's one free 4G Nokia valued at $79 - what a deal! Also one HDMI cable at $39.99, and the extended warranty on the HDMI cable which we will never honour anyway, and the total today comes to…. $485.99. Is that just on card today sir?"

      • +7

        And a $500 surge protector

        • +4

With an imaginary $3000000000000000 cover to protect all your appliances and electronics

      • And anti-virus software for a different device

    • They will if you purchase a $200 extended warranty and the all important gold plated USB-C cable for $149.

  • +7

I have an xPeria play. No way in hell I'll ever part with it

    • You turn it on lately? I booted mine up a few months ago to try load some PSX games onto it (Had a mod for the launcher where you can add any ISO to the Xperia launcher) and the the touchscreen doesn't respond at all. Was working okay the last time I used it a few years ago. Have no idea how to fix it.

  • +3

Do they accept all 3g phones for recycling to get the nokia 4g?

    • +4

Why would you neg the deal?
Do you neg deals advertised on tv because you were out when the advert played?
If they decline you, fair enough, but your neg is not relevant.

  • How can Asurion / HN afford to do this free upgrade? Not commercially viable !

    • +3

I feel it's beginning. More businesses will offer similar thing closer to the 3G shutdown date

    • I’m also wondering how as well… but in all fairness I have always had questions over how Asurion makes money given some of the Samsung trade in program gaps over the years.

      • I thought Asurion is normally quite strict in accepting trade in phones from Samsung trade in deals. They can often decline if they don't like the condition of the phone (and you won't get the phone back). The phone I posted them years ago was in a very good condition and if I were to sell it on feeBay, I'm sure I would get more than what Asurion offered. The main bonus trade in amount is from Samsung I reckon.

        • There has to be a selected list of phones they don't want can't be every 3G phones

    • +2

They hope your grandma will buy the 5 year $269 extended warranty with the phone

    • Asurion might ask HN to note down all your personal details and if they found a scratch or crack on the phone, they will demand the new phone to be paid in full. I am mostly joking of course. Asurion is normally quite strict with phone trade-ins. Hopefully, this is different.

In 2018… Telstra offered a FREE (locked) 4G+ phone delivered
Was for their users with phones that couldn't access 850MHz 3G network.
But we found a way to get it free😄

Pretty crappy laggy mobile. Still use it for hotspot using free Boost SIMs.

Woolies had free locked 3G Vodadone phones in Deal long ago.
Have a few unused - will try free upgrade of 1 tomorrow

    • +1

It's all the precious metals and radioactive material in the 3G phones that Asurion are mining from old phones.

Keep this quiet though, don't want another lawsuit coming.

    • +4

Obviously they're a sham. Trust that old whinger Gerry Harvey (Norman) to partner with them.

    • +3

oh no, well, if anyone successful with a clean swap please let us know, thx!

      • +2

        Yes interested as well

    • Don't they do Samsung's trade ins?

  • +1

It's a targetted or non-existent deal without a valid web page.

  • +1

Let's be real, most 3g phones are useless once they're phased out - so you may as well trade in for a new phone and sell it/trade it.

    • -1

Problem is that Nokia 110's screen is smaller than my Garmin phone. Can't they provide iPhone 15 Pro Max? 😂 iPhone SE 2022?

Most people don't want to use Nokia 110 nowadays.

      • +4

Most people don't want to use Nokia 110 nowadays.

Likely to be the reason they're doing this. They're not worth anything to Harvey Norman or anyone else.

  • Perfect kids phone. Not sure if i can get the deal tho? Someone wanna forward the email to me?

    • +1

      Kids in first grade maybe

      • +5

Kids that you want to live in a real world rather than being app obsessed. Don't give them the option.

    • +2

Not sure if I would do this to my kids. Asking for a friend…

  • +3

Is it possible someone got hold of the Harvey Norman subscriber list and has sent this out? I mean it’s not on any Harvey Norman web site.

    • -3

That's because it is a targeted deal and should be labelled as such by OP.

      • So it’s targeted and yet not mentioned anything by OP

  • +8

The words “Free” and “Harvey Norman” do not belong in the same sentence

    • +1

how about "Free Hassle" from Hardly Normal…

  • I assume that these phones if still working will go to those countries where 3G is still active and the public struggle to have a phone. So in poor countries it would be a lifeline for them. As would the old 3G towers which will be decommissioned.

    • +2

I talked to someone who is from Africa and used to work for Huawei there. I'm guessing they are not far from 5G.

    • +2

Not often people refer to Australia as "poor countries" because 3G is still working here.

  • +2

I have a kilo of 3g phones. How many new Nokias per person do they give?

  • ahh wish i had a 3G phone

  • +2

Is this worth giving up personal information to a third party company (Asurion).
I mean… giving it up to Hardly Normal is bad enough as it is..🤔

  • This is great, thanks OP

  • +2

"Elevate your communication experience with the Nokia 110 4G Phone'

    Straight back to 1995..

    • +9

take me there now, life was so much more real.

  • +4

Hardly Normal doesn't provide freebies; they simply aim to increase traffic and upsell gold HDMI cables for $70 in-store.

  • valued at how much ?

    • +1

      This much.

    • +1

      yes

  • +8

lmao, pair this with the free mother's day card and I've got the missus sorted this year with a quick trip to Hardly Normal. Excellent.

    • +3

Her bf surely will do better next time

      • +1

Ozbargain; come for the deals, stay for the comments

  • +3

Let's wait till JB comes out with a matching offer. I don't like going into a HN store.

    • Compared to Nick Scali, there is nothing wrong with their furniture.
But their computer division is something of an oxymoron.

      • Their kitchen appliances are still ok as well. But you just need to negotiate

  • +1

I really wonder how this works in practice. Do we just rock up to our local HN with any old 3G phone in hand and leave with a brand new Nokia 110 4G?!

    • +2

Even if you did, the staff would have no clue about this and ask you for proof.

    • +2

Just leave all your personally identity details at the door as you leave and you’re golden.

    • Rocking up is just the beginning.
      Selecting a Karen is next.
Explaining what a mobile phone actually is, goo luck!

  • +4

The phone can be had for $44 with $30 starter pack so effectively $14. I suspect Nokia have given away these phones and the deal is a way to get personal information for marketing purposes.

    • +1

So it's a conspiracy. There's no need to provide your real phone number or email address. I always use a number and email address that almost never gets read or answered. They can call and/or email me as much as they want. They'll get no answer.

      • +3

        Username checks out

      • What if at the shop they need your driver license? always will have some BS to grep your personal details. Thats why they called Hardly Normal!

        • +1

You usually need to id yourself when buying a phone/sim for legal purposes.

  • Ok I force myself to visit a store.
Will they also beg for dog food for Gerrys hungry dog?

  • +1

    Asurion and harvey..
Now I believe that bad people like to stick around their kind

I have an old old phone i broke in half, wonder if they'll accept that

    • +2

Yes they will give a 4g one that is broken in half

      • +2

        New model: Nokia 55 2g ?….

  • Does anyone know if this is capable of wifi calling? Thinking of using it overseas to get messages from usual number while I use a local sim on my day to day phone.

Also to use as mp3 player

    • No wifi on this

      • thanks

  • +1

I have a non functional iPhone 4. Will it qualify?

    • +3

Comments below say it has to power on.

  • +4

Knowing these guys they probably want original box, accessories and proof of purchase.

  • +2

Raided the office mobile recycling box, found an iPhone 7 but it's iCloud locked. Wonder if they will accept it.

  • +1

Gumtree burner sorted, maybe grab a second one for the inlaws

  • +2

Any luck yet? is there signage in the shop advertising this promotion?

    • +3

Yes it’s a deal. I’m seeing it happen in front of my eyes.

      • Mate can you check if 4g compatible phones can be exchanged for this? Also, do the phone have to be charged and shown to be working?
