FYI, if Amazon hasn't shipped out your order yet you may be able to cancel it.

        • Sadly I was unaware of this, I can't cancel it now as it will be used as a tax deduction/depreciation. Thank me for the donation Amazon.

@Yamisocheap: Don't beat yourself up about it. You were happy with the price when you purchased it.

But yes, thanks for the donation to Bozos

          • @Yamisocheap: Bezos needs the cash on his honeymoon.

      Also a refurb AW2725QF (4k version) on the Outlet store for $779 - https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-alienware-27-4…

I love my new AW3225QF, but anything over $1350ish isn't a bargain - they come up on the refurb store for $1100ish fairly regularly too. I was lucky enough to get one of the super cheap refurbs a few weeks ago.

    • I bought the AW3225QF a few days ago, I asked JB hifi to price match Dell with the discount code and they gave it to me for $1,300. Excellent monitor.
Was on an LG C2 42" but honestly, thought it was a bit too big for my desk and seems to work much better as a TV.

  • +3

Yeah it's good, have had it since a few months after it came out pretty much, no issues what so ever. I used to be one of those people that just needed 120hz+ and just bought the cheapest monitor available. Buying this is a pretty big upgrade and I don't regret the purchase at all.

For me initially the brightness from HDR was enough to make me squint at 75%, I personally don't have problem with the monitor not being bright enough. It's honestly bright enough to use in a decently lit room, but if your room is super bright, your blacks will get a bit washed out, but again no major issues for me.

The usual questions - Do you need 360hz blah blah?

No, but if you play competitive shooters type games mostly, and your PC can reach those frames per second in your games, and you're coming from a regular IPS or VA panel running at 144hz, 165hz etc, 360hz is much smoother, most people can notice it, but if you already have 240hz or so, it's not going to be a major difference.

    • The only thing I want to add in terms of issues I've come across is VRR flicker, I just don't even switch it on, to me the monitor is that smooth with vysnc off at 360hz that i don't even care for VRR.

      • Did you notice quite a lot of flicker?

        • +1

Last time I checked it was it only came up in game menus, but I honestly didn't feel like I need to have it on, the monitor is so smooth regardless.

The new Alienware AW2725D 280hz is $710.73 with the DNCPAU11 code if you're looking for a cheaper version of the AW2725DF.

  • Is there any benefit going for the 1440p vs the 4k version for an extra $40?
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/alienware-27-4k-qd-oled-gami…
The 4k is 240hz vs 360hz but they all seem too fast to tell the difference. However the 4k reduces the text fringing problem of the 1440p.

    • +3

Anybody who can tell the difference between 240hz and 360hz is either making money from gaming, or is wasting their life obsessing over gaming specs.

      • +2

        Agreed on this.
I just don't see any benefit for anyone buying the 1440p version

        • +3

It's about being able to reach those high frame rates - 4k is a lot harder to get there than 1440p. DLSS and equivalent changes things a bit though.

I went from 144hz to 360hz and could not tell the difference in frames, for me it was about the other characteristics OLED brings.

      • +3

there is a difference, but not massive, akin to going from 120 to 165Hz. 240 to 480Hz on the other hand though, that is very noticeable

        • +1

More like 120 to 180, but more impactful.

      • +4

The point isn't comparing the two monitors by hz, these are two different resolutions all together, you can't compare 4k @ 240hz because on most games you'll struggle to even reach 240hz unless you crank up DLSS/Frame gen etc, vs 1440p at 360hz, which is extremely doable on most competitive shooter type games.

You're supposed to compare coming from an older non OLED type monitors running at 144, 165hz etc and you want to upgrade to an OLED and having the high refresh rates and fast response time as the extra benefit.

Coming from 144/16hz to 360hz is noticeable, if it was the same resolution at 1440p let's say, going from 240hz to 360hz isn't a big difference at all.

    • +2

Is your gaming PC capable of driving 4K resolution at high framerates? If so, get the 4K monitor, otherwise get the 1440p model.

      • I'm not sure, i bought a ryzen 7700 and the radeon 9060 xt reaper from the deal posted a day or two ago

        • +2

Your GPU isn't going to get very high framerates at 4K, so my suggestion would be to get the 1440p monitor. I always prefer using a monitor at its native resolution, I find playing at 1440p on a 4K monitor tends to look quite blurry and distracting. If you want the sharp 4K resolution for office/productivity work, my suggestion would be to get a 2nd (probably IPS) monitor for that.

          • @deadpoet: OLED has pretty good low resolution upscaling. It just doesn't seem to work for texts. I think the 4k monitor playing at 1440p with good general use outweighs the cons of a poor general use 1440p playing at native resolution OLED monitor.

    • +1

The 4K one has the latest Gen 4 Samsung OLED panel, which is supposed to have longer lifespan/brighter/less flicker etc. The 1440p ones are Gen 3.

      • +1

Even more reason to not go 1440p. Op if you can cancel and get the 4k if just get that one.

      • +1

The 1440p 500Hz will have some of the gen 4 upgrades, that's how the refresh rate has jumped (i.e. they used the efficiency improvements to driver refresh rate faster).

It just doesn't have all of the changes due to using the same 1440p subpixel patterning.

2025 Gen 3 might not equal Gen 4, but it's not 2024 Gen 4 either. The 280Hz is what 2024 Gen 3 has become: a safer binning.

        • Sorry I'm confused, what are you all recommending? AW2725D instead?
I cancelled my order with Amazon

          • +2

@Yamisocheap: You cant go wrong with them tbh since they all use the same SS QD Oled panel. Different gens panels means different sub pixel structure and better burn in prevention tech (they got a lot better since Gen 2 already). Just pick the one that suits your usage and how much your GPU can push them. I pull the trigger on the 34 inch the other day since 4K is a bit too much for my 9070XT, lol

          • +1

            @Yamisocheap: 27" 4K 240Hz for under $900
            27" QHD 500Hz for under $900
            27" QHD 360Hz for under $700

            Let the market settle.

  • Is it a gen 4 panel?

    • +1

See my post above, Gen 4 mostly refers to some changes, not all, and is largely reflected in the creation of 27" 4K models.

    • +1

The 27 inch is gen 4, while the 32 inch is gen 3. But tbh, they wont look that different though, just better panel protection from burn in. I think the burn in prevent thing got a lot better since Gen 2 already

  • so this isn't gen 4

  • +1

    Dear Alienware,
we need a new 38 ultrawide model, 1600P minimum too please.

  • -1

Quite a bit cheaper from Dell with DNCPAU11 coupon.

  • for an office monitor is the 4k a better choice?

    • For an office monitor, yes definitely. Text clarity will be way better. The reasons to get a 1440p monitor include price and gaming with a GPU not powerful enough to run games at 4K with high frame rates.

People will say high refresh rates are unnecessary for productivity, I think thats a personal preference.

  • +2

I got the newer 27” QD-OLED 280hz 1440p one (AW2725D) for $680 with their student discount. Think I got like $50 back in dell rewards too. Not too many reviews out for it yet but I can report back in anyone is interested.

    • I'm interested - how's it so far?

      • +1

Pretty great! I have been playing Stray with RTX HDR and the 1000 nits peak brightness is great. Really nice colours too. It makes my IPS second monitor look like crap.

        • +1

Bought one yesterday! Let's see how we go
