Hot take, but this movie was the best thing I've seen in years

    • Agreed. Fantastic.

    • yep, definitely best experienced in theatres. i'm not sure people will be getting the most out of it without a decent home theatre system.

    • I am about halfway and it seems to be slow going. does it get better in second half?

    • 100%

Went in knowing very little other than what the (thankfully) vague trailer gave off. Went out having experienced one of the better films I've seen in a cinema in a long time!

Bonus, the cinema I went to was so quiet on a Friday during the day (had RDO from work) that quite literally nobody else was in the cinema with me and the person I was with. Private viewing for $14 each!

Not a bad movie but hugely overrated

      Stremio…

you are about 2 months late for the early bird prices. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898271

but if it helps I can give you a list of all the new releases that were added.
Twisters (good), Companion (just ok), Juror #2 (just ok), Mickey 17 (good), Mountainhead (ok - bit cringe), Alto Knights (meh).
      Sinners (this deal).

I know movies are subjective, but personally I think overall the new releases have been a bit average. this is without watching Sinner yet.

  • it is not a Ganzer movie.

Gave me From Dusk till Dawn vibes. Still a great movie.

It's a slow burn movie, but boy that ending coda scene was one of the most beautiful scenes I've seen in years.

the dancing/music montage is so good

  • Great watch and that ending is so satisfying.

  • This film's a fun ride, well worth the two+ hours.

  • Thanks. Can't get out much due to duties as a carer and wanted to see this. Good use of a subscription fee.

  • +1

Slow start, decent middle (hardly anything new though), pretty good end.
Still found the movie highly overrated. I would rate it like 7/10.

      It insists upon itself

  • Rocky road to Dublin song was so good 😊

  • +6

Movie overrated, too many fake bots on review sites.

    The movie is ok

Jack O'Connell, superb but underrated actor. The North Water, a highly recommended must watch with him and the brilliantly acting of Colin Farrell. No hype, just greatness.

  • We watched it in The Star Casino Gold Coast. Didnt read beforehand. Found it slow at the start, and then it became weird. Very dark. Not a fan of this kind of movie, we both felt very uncomfortable.

Then a few people left, followed by more and more, so we follw suit and left too.
Met another person in the lift and she wasn't impressed. I wont say much here in case I kill someone's enthusiasm.

Came home and read reviews, very surprised its so highly rated.

You're not a fan of horror… and you feel uncomfortable watching them, yet you went in to a see a movie without checking genre, and you're surprised it's highly rated. (???)

Sounds like you're rating it poorly because you don't like horror.

It's really no surprise at all that it's highly rated. I'm not even a huge horror fan and loved it.

  • +3

Huge horror fan and found this movie very average. It's not bad but with the crazy reviews you'd think it's the best ever or something.

  • +3

Thanks op for posting, saw it the other day. Did not like it, very average movie at best

Just get Stremio… way easier than this multiple accounts and always free

Why do so many people think their own taste is the absolute universal standard and claim things they don't like as "overrated" instead of "I did not enjoy it that much?"

    • -1

because internet. because social media. it's main character syndrome.

also people wrongly believe it only affects young people. grown adults can have main character syndrome too.

    • Because people seem to think their opinion on something being good is objective (rather than their opinion) - this movie being the perfect example.

  • +5

The most overrated movie of the year

    • -2

there's a lot going on in this movie that a lot of people are missing

    • -5

One of the low IQ takes of the year

    • Totally agree - very little plot, lots of filler without actual character development. Yes, it deserves credit for its production, setting, music, as well as its underlying themes, but that doesn't forgive the general lack of substance (that doesn't require knowledge of the period to appreciate).

      • what're the underlying themes?
