You do have the cheaper option of the standard 10 with a whopping 128gb for $1700.
That's the pro, not the standard price.
why would anyone pay $2000 for a laptop?
Most used item in daily life, common sense would tell you it should be good, and $2k is reasonable for good phone these days
If you don’t get it, you will never get it.
About to roll off my 24 month / $69 Optus Harvey Norman deal from Oz bargain on the pixel 8 pro.
Anyone else in this situation and want to share thoughts on their next move?
currently on pixel 6 keen to upgrade to pixel 10 if i can get a good deal. hoping for one of them jb hifi mobile deals, or a good accessory bundle with someone like optus plus a discount.
Same here bro. Just wait until fathers day or Xmas
nevermind, jb hifi mobile deals this time are absolute dogshit compared to last years 🙃🙃🙃
Same position as you… HN offers for this are 36 month plan which I've never seen before and also are just 🤢🤮 nerfs the value too.
Will wait and see if they improve offer which they sometimes do for a limited period. But wife got flip7 on a very keen 24mth HN plan recently, so hopefully this 36mth thing is just a big mistake from them
Otherwise if I'm paying more or less full price, I don't see enough value in the p10xl (from the leaks anyway, haven't deep dived the phone yet) to upgrade.
Is this a good phone or is Google phones bad quality compared to other phones like Motorola, Samsung and Apple?
I have to say I always had issues with the Pixel Phones until the 9… this is the first time I don't feel the need to upgrade or change, I used to switch between it and the Samsung Ultra on release cycle.
The 10 series should be a slight improvement.
Have had pixel 1,3,4,6 all have been rock solid. Also best camera out.
Nowhere near the best camera.
I started with the nexus…
At this point unless you care about security and grapheneos getting an iPhone or a snapdragon based phone that's not made by a Chinese company (I don't mean made in china) is your best bet. Pixel phones are the worst for overheating and signal issues. The 10 is definitely going to be the best pixel and you won't have too many issues but I went from the pixel 5 which is snapdragon to the pixel 8 pro which is tensor g3 and it's not that good of a phone. If the pixel 10 gets good reviews and fixes the overheating I will upgrade most likely. I could still be using the pixel 5 tbh. The upgrade was a mistake.
I've never had any overheating issues with my 8 Pro. Are you doing intense gaming?
Nope. I don't play phone games. Just happens with normal use when using mobile data or charging. Not charging with mobile data off it's mostly fine.
Got the Pixel 3 5 and 7. Never had an issue.
Google has the best update frequency and security, plus you can use GrapheneOS if you want to keep your data totally secure. In my experience Samsung is better for quality and has equally good pricing, once on special (after a few months after release). Samsung has local repairs, where google requires you to return the device to HK for exchange (google will start local repairs soon, according to their support).
Apple if for people in that ecosystem and is decent quality, but expensive. Moto is mostly low end junk.
What ever you pick, you want a 2 year warrant minimum on a phone. Anything less in 2025 is a joke
I had Pixel 5 for 3 years and now 8 Pro for 2 years. Partner had 6 and 9 Pro. Zero issues. Just waiting for a decent deal to grab a Pixel 10 Pro, probably by the end of the year.
Not much love for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold?? Shares the same cameras with last gen and a thicker design comp to the Samsung Fold 7, but offers improved battery life, MagSafe and software.
Why would anyone but thus over a S25U for $1,500 🤡
Pixel os feel, faster updates, pixel camera and graphene os come to mind.
midrange chipset for a flagship price, insane.
3nm SOC now made by TSMC is 'mid'? Right.
S25 ultra - 2867 single core, 9491 multi core
Pixel 10 xl - 2296 single core, 6203 multi corehttps://www.techpowerup.com/340144/google-tensor-g5-benchmar…
Yes that's mid when the price is the same.
Well I had samsungs back in the day.
And move to Pixel cz of dogs**t native software on Samsung and never looked back.- Samsung messages vs Google Messages
- Crappy samsung Phone App
- etc
(yes you can replace these but with less featured variations from google)
Pixels do not have the best software either.
They do dodgy sh*t updates as well. In a more immature manner some times even in UI/UX aspect. That being said.
Statistically (keyword for context) people who buy expensive phones (regardless of the brand) do not care about benchmarks, we need a device that is reliable.
Last thing they are worried about when buying a phone is benchmarks.
They don't have time to play games or run Intensive workloads. They are busy working and running things (still statistically)On a side note:
And have u tried the hold-for-me feaure on a pixel.
That is one of the most underated features that is very useful when you are a working person and don't have a lot of time to spare waiting for sm1 to pickup your call from the other end@electroz: People might not get into the numbers and benchmarks results and things like that but they expect a fast smooth experiance not just upon release but for years to come, lacking
performance on day 1 just means it will perform worse later on in the devices lifetime.Granted i dont have alot of experiance with pixel devices but the one i did buy The Pixel 6 pro on release put all pixel devices on the no go list till they prove make a phone that's actually good. That phone had software issues EVERY update, and charged insanely slow and drained quickly and ive seen issues for most pixels after it, just saw the camera issue for the P9 Pro xl for example.
Having owned Samsung Galaxy S1, S3, S4, S6 Edge, S7, S8, S20 Ultra, S21+, S22 Ultra(garbage), S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra + a few more non Samsung phones. Ive had alot of experiance with Samsung over the years and having had zero issues with any of those software wise and hardware wise with the one exception being the S22 Ultra, Samsung S25 Ultra is just the better buy.
The pixel needs to be cheaper imo for it to even be considered.
@Axelstrife: Agree on the 6 Pro XL, had that for an year and I also ran in to issues.
Then had 8 pro xl and 9 pro xl for ~1y eachI did not face any issues tbh. Just runs
Got a S24+ in the household as well. So I do have a running comparison for software.
General UI/UX is def better in Samsung. (Latest version is trying hard to be iOS 🤣)But Native android apps that are better should not be excluded in place of crappy custom ones imo.
Pricing wise all the so called "Flagships" need a price correction.
And yes do agree pixel needs to be cheaper. But pixels do get few useful things right compared to lot of other manufactures (at least for us old folks 🤣)
But benchmarks are just one indicator.
It cannot give u a solid indication on how apps behave on a platform both hw and sw.
It can give u a hint on how most common workloads will behave.
@electroz: seriously that dog**t is the right word that I would choose for samsung native software. They could easily save money by offering stock android, and pass on the value to customers! Samsung hardware + stock android + reduced price would be a win-win.
Oh last year was $450 credit right
Yep
Don't forget last year's 15% unidays discount as well.
If you were subscribed to the Google Store mailing list they just sent out codes for an extra $50 off valid for 2 weeks
Get A$50 off the new Pixel 10 series using your exclusive coupon code. Offer ends 2 weeks after being issued; while supplies last.
I was subscribed but did not receive this offer
The 10 Pro is very underwhelming, very little difference from the 9 pro that I can see.
Yeah unless you can get a great upgrade deal, there is little reason to go from the 9 to the 10 this year.
Hopefully the 11 will finally bring new camera sensors, we've had the same main sensor for 4 years now basically (barring a minor upgrade in the 7).
Pixel 10 actually has worse cameras (smaller sensors/lower MP) than Pixel 9. It does have a new telephoto lens, but not as good as the one in the 10 Pro. Smaller sensor, lower MP.
https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13987&idPhone…
Yeah true, I always opt for the pro models now so was referring to them, but yeah you are correct about the base model.
I think many people are missing to realize an upgrade that is at the heart of it all. Tensor G5 is 3nm and now made by TSMC, in the SOC world that tech is way better than G4. I expect battery life to be much improved.
No 10% codes anymore sigh
Yeah was just going through my normal trade in/upgrade routine, which normally only costs me about $300~ a year with last year's credit, trade in bonus and the 10% off codes… Stuck with the crappy $50 code only now unless there's another way, so going to be a $500~ upgrade this year.
Last year was also 850 boosted trade in as opposed to 700 this year
And 450 Google store credit as opposed to 300 this year.
Take away the 10% coupon not being present this year and the upgrade is far less inviting.
If I don't upgrade I still have credit to use from last year that I assume expires any time nowIf you use the nest cams order them. I used my credit the other day as I had no need to upgrade.
3 cams. Price matched with JB Hifi. Paid $53 out of pocket.
I spoke to a Google rep they said the credits don't expire. Even though the email says it does.
Last year's upgrade was easy, ended up costing $200ish
This year it's over $600..
@Windows98: I emailed Google too as couldn't see my expiry date for last year's credit. Also said it didn't expire.
@Windows98: If you go to the google store, click on your profile it should show your credits.
Click on the credits and it should show the expiry.
If you dont have any expiry then cool.@MrBillions: Is that the credit you got from buying the P10?
Same for me. I guess this one will expire
@Windows98: Yes bought yesterday, caved in, over priced but skipped the pixel 9, so that's my excuse
Any good phones for under $1000? please suggest.
S25 base model.
Was $850 last week.
I'm sick of heavy and large phones.
it's how he said it not what he said.
Waiting for when it drops to 888 like it did for 9 XL
Prices ridiculous at this point. I'm falling hard off the Pixel train.
No Unidays discount - bummer. I was gonna upgrade, not anymore.
@neoleo did anyone (you might know off) of Australian users who faced this issue tried to use Australian Consumer Law to get a new device or refund?
Pretty dumb that the trade in value for the 9 pro and 9 pro xl is the same.
Also the same regardless of storage size
Yep annoying but that's always been the case
Last year there was a $150 difference between pro and non proEven now the p7 models have a price difference between the pro
Google are being jerks this year
Hopefully great deals on 9 series now…
It's seems they removed the benefits of receiving store credit if you are on Google One subscription.
No they haven't
Weird, I don't see the 10% google credit when I'm trying to check-out. I have a 2TB subscription.
It shouldn’t be in trial or free version. You must be a paying customer. Are you?
@mkbsd: I did some checking. I got an email last April of a change in benefits. It will now depend on the billing location. As I subscribed using the Turkey account, I don't have the store credit benefits now.
@preasm14: Ok that makes sense then, as yeah I have an Aus account and received the 10% store credit on my order today.
@Binchicken22: did it show in your checkout screen that you are getting the 10% credit or did you just get it after ordering even if it doesn't show in the checkout screen? mine is not showing in the checkout screen.
Last year, I got 450$ cashback while I gave back my pixel 6 pro. This year, they are only giving 200$ for pixel 7 pro (that is a boosted cashback). There are no student offers like last year, Should I wait for few days for any google vouchers in Unidays?
I'll wait a few days to see more promotions from Unidays and others, as I want to upgrade my Pixel 8 Pro to the 10 Pro XL, but at these current prices and promotions it's impossible, I prefer to go back to Samsung which doesn't depreciate so much
I felt same as yours
True. The Pixel 10 Pro hasn’t really improved its chipset performance the way Samsung and even Motorola have. Brands like Samsung place more value on respecting customer data, whereas with many Chinese phones, your data security can be at risk.
If Google doesn’t come up with any good offers, I might just switch to Samsung and sell my old pixel phone on Facebook instead.
No thanks. People are selling their $350 Google credit for just $200 on Facebook. Google Store credit really isn’t worth much, it’s better to get similar credit from JB Hi-Fi or Officeworks instead.
Shipped out today by the looks of it
Same , arrives today
Mine is delivered..
Seriously why would you pay $2000 for a (profanity) phone 🤷
