Wanting a laptop/netbook/notebook for $400 or less

Alright so I'm just looking for a cheap laptop/netbook/notebook which can do the following uses:

  • School assignments.
  • Accesses the internet obviously lol.
  • Maybe hold a few movies.
  • Has to have windows 7 or 8.
  • preferred screen size 11" - 14" (willing to go a little bigger but not smaller)
  • I want to spend less then $400 so around the $350 mark.
  • I want it to be slim and light so I can easily take with me anywhere.
  • Fast booting would be a good extra.

I have been looking at the ASUS X401U which is $349 with free postage but I don't want to rip my self off if i can get something just as good for cheaper I will as I'm saving for a week holiday in June.
I have about a week before I make any hard decisions.
I wouldn't mind getting a second hand laptop but it all depends on how old it is because I want something relatively new and which has been released within the last year.

Im just so over my piece of shit laptop I have now, I try and put it to sleep and it turns its self off -.-

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you :)

Have you looked at your power settings in control panel?

  • I know this thread is a bit old, but if you're still looking for a cheap, small laptop, you could do what I have just done:

The seller I bought mine from seems to have plenty. I just loaded windows 7 64 bit on it, and its humming along nicely.
