Clumping cat litter

Where do you get good, cheap, clumping cat litter from? I don't mind bulk buying.
I've used the expensive catsan clumping litter and they were great, but too expensive. The cheap home brand ones don't clump well and break apart when I scoop the pee up :/ Mixing them had good results but catsan is too expensive when not on sale.

  • Ok, I know this doesn't exactly answer your question but, as a true Ozbargainer, I thought I would throw in another suggestion that may work out cheaper…
From my previous investigations, one of the prime ingredients in clumping kitty litter is bentonite - a type of clay.
You can possibly buy cheapo kitty litter, then buy bentonite separately (I got mine from a stockfeed place) and add that to the mix.
Yes, I know that is a lot of mucking around for kitty litter but I couldn't help myself.
    Good luck.

    • I don't mind extra effort, I just want to save $$$ :P
How much was the bentonite clay for you?

      • Pretty sure I paid about $15 for a 20kg bag of the stuff

        • I called around, and emailed when they have websites. Most places don't have bentonite, but one which I emailed did. They said they'd hv to order it and it's 15bucks for 25kg. I replied I wanted it, through email for consistency's sake and haven't got a reply yet. On hindsight my enquiry made it look like I wanted to buy a lot for animal feed and now that they know I only want a few packs they cbb orderingfor me ;p

Dang, I wanted bentonite to use as litter AND face mask! It's the main ingredient in detox masks

  • Before I moved to WA, I used Aldi brand.

    • Thanks, will check it out and try various brands.

  • I find this one is best and reasonable if you buy in bulk.

    • Does this clump? I don't see any mention of it clumping. I used to use non-clumping litter but upon using clumping ones there's no turning back for me :D

      • It does clump yes, though I'm not entirely sure what they class as a clumping versus non in litters. I've tried a fair few brands and mixed some and find this lasts the best and retains any odours too. Listen to us, sounding like bloody litter professors! haha

        • All cat owners inevitably become litter experts (except for the ones who let their cat out to poop). The money amount spent on this builds up overtime, might seem negligable at first but when it's over the course of 10+ years you'd want the most bang for your buck :) I bookmarked the website you linked as it's free shipping to melb, would prove useful later. I really just want to mix bentonite clay with al cheapo homebrand litter as it's cheap and effective (comes to around 50cents per kg), but being so hard to find nearby i'll just have to shop for regular litter. Read good reviews on max litter, will give it a try even though it's a bit more expensive then i'd like. Will also check out the aldi one.

        • Let me know what you think of the Aldi one. If you find any other products on here to offset the $6.95 delivery, they price matched and beat the Robbo's price by 10% (They said it's not exactly the same, but it is). I ordered a heap of cat food also, so it ended up working out at a good price and saved me lugging multiple bags around also.

        • Have you given Teaching your cat how to use the Toilet any thought?
I'm using the litter quitter on my two cats and aside from the boy kitty mostly refusing to poop in the toilet and not peeing in the toilet unless someones present it works out fine. the little girl does it all on her own and all i need to do is check often and flush.

you'll probably find the litter quitter IRL for $100 a bit steep for what it is but still cheaper then litter for the rest of life.
you can also likely find some knock off versions online too.

      • Does this clump? I don't see any mention of it clumping.

We don't have a cat, but we DO use a fair bit of bentonite -for a dam (in crappy soil) that tends to want to leak. It will clump, no question about it: it clumps when you don't want it to.
Just be aware that it comes in granulated and powdered forms. I'm guessing you'd be wanting granules for kitty litter purposes.

Better find yourself a good buy on a mortar and pestle. lol

        • Hammer and bag should do the trick from what i've read :)
