  • Im pretty sure portal 1 is free to play

    • Hmm, not sure where you saw that. For me, Portal 1 comes up as US$2.49 (on it's own, outside the bundle)

    • I've still got it showing me as a paid game. http://store.steampowered.com/app/400/?snr=1_7_15__13

Portal 1 went free to play temporarily just before Portal 2 came out I believe, but yeah it's back to being a paid game.

    • +3

Portal 1 is free for schools, if your a uni/tafe student with a cool teacher who doesn't mind sending a email, could get a bunch of keys for your class

      • Seriously? How?! I probably wouldn't be able to get it from any of my lecturers/tutors as I do Commerce, but I wonder if any of my Engineering or IT friends could…

  • +8

I would get this if it wasn't for the fact I still have a copy of Portal 2 sitting in my steam account to give to a friend.

    Now to buy a friend.

      lowest bidder wins?

its not about price its about quality…

      • Said in true Oz bargain style :D

Both of these games are truly some of the best games I've ever played. It's a fascinating and thoughtful experience unlike many other games.
Portal 2 is made even better with Steam Workshop, where you can download heaps of custom maps. The coop ones especially I've had fun with, but there are entire campaigns made for the single player.

I'd personally recommend to start with:

    Coop:
    Gelocity (all of them)
    Aperture Valentine

    and singleplayer:

    Aperture Halloween

Noob question: Can I play the same copy on Mac as well ? I haven't bought any Mac games from Steam before.

    • +4

      Yes you can.
Once you've bought through Steam you can play the game on any internet connected computer if the game supports the OS.

    • +4

When you purchase a game to your Steam Library, it will be downloadable to any computer that you install Steam on, and complies with the minimum system requirements of that machine. If you purchase a Mac + PC compatible game, you're able to log on to either computer and install/play that game.

      TL;DR - Yes.

Aperture Science….We do what we must because we can.

    Julia…that you?

Not a single cake joke given yet?

    • I think people prefer lemons these days…

  • Anyone played round with the Portal 2 puzzle maker ?
    or Hammer ?

    • Try the Portal 2 map maker first. Hammer is a whole nother beast entirely. Not for newcomers.

  • portal 2 was coming up on my steam for 75% off - to a grand total of 19.99 - I thought wtf it was never ever 80 bucks to begin with.

  • +2

Love both these games - what I do want to play though, is HALF-LIFE 2: EPISODE 3!

  • Thank you :)

  • I have Portal 2 only. If I buy the bundle, will I get a spare copy of Portal 2 or will it be lost in the process, and I'll just get Portal 1?

    • The spare should end up in your inventory which you could then choose to gift it to a friend.

      • +1

Should, but I'd be careful with bundles.

    • +1

Steam wont give you a spare. That's how it's always been. You just get the game that's not in your library.

      • +4

        Not always.

And noticeably, the screenshot is of the Portal Bundle, which is what this deal is about.

        • Still, there's no harm contacting steam support just in case the list of games is not updated.

        • … Except the deal will be over by the time they reply to things, at times. Not saying they're bad, but online questions receive answers…. whenever.

  • Anyone know when this ends?
I wont be home until tonight :(

Also, I don't really use steam… if I download it onto my hard drive, can I then install it on another external drive? or is the download and install all in one process? (I use an SSD so I don't want to take up too much space on it)

    • +1

      Offer Ends 23rd April.
Also looks like you can install it on another drive

      • Oh well. Just went ahead and am downloading now.
my homes internet of 8MB/s can't compete with 100+MB/s at uni.

        • +3

You've got NBN at home, and you're complaining about speed?! Please die slowly (on dial-up).

Either that, or you think 8mbit = 8MB/s… So speed is wasted on you, regardless.

    • You can install to as many drives as your heart (and download quota) desires.

    1+ for the description.
