    i was picking black snot out of my nose when i went to xian. the pollution hovering over the city is unbelievable.

    $300 more to depart from brisbane rather than sydney seems excessive

    nearly everything of interest is an optional tour which costs additional $$

    Note the fine print:
    "Scoopon excludes: all items marked by asterisk on itinerary, China Visa fees (for regular service: AUS98.5 for Australian passport holder), US$50 per person service charges (including return postage) for obtaining visas, package choice US$450 pp for either Beijing or Xi’an, or US$650 pp for Beijing and Xi’an both (Compulsory and payable upon booking for issuing tickets), US Tour tipping US$80 per person (payable upon booking), meals and beverages other than specified, laundry and other items of a personal nature, costs of trip delay or interruption by airline schedule change, cost for anything not specifically mentioned in the listing above"

    It reads like there is an additional $450 or $650 in tour fees but I get the impression these are optional tours so the $999 has you mostly doing your own thing

    Also note "High season surcharge applies: US$400 pp for July 9, US$100 pp for Nov 14, 21, 28, US$500 pp for Dec 17, payable upon booking"

      agree with this hidden cost. scoopon had other 10 days china tours cost $1499 (ended few days ago). so i think this one is not a better deal, only 7 days.

      and i never get that $10 myer gift card they promised:(

    You don't need a tour guide in China unless you're going to the countryside
